  1. Grand, thanks. Any advice on throw line storage? What about those Stein cubes?
  2. Thanks, i've been climbing on an old yale xtc rope which is nearing the end of it's life. Will new rope take long to break in?
  3. I'm a novice climber who climbs ddrt with a prussik loop. What's the best 13mm rope to get?

    Files.

Thanks, i usually use Oregan files and find them good.

    Files.

I might try the Stihl file the next time and see how she cuts.

Sound, i'll be getting a new 28" Sugihara bar from him by Summer's end so he might throw in a few files as freebies!

Is it just that you prefer the 5.2mm files or like me do you get them thrown in as freebies from the dealer after dropping some coin on something shiny!

Anyone tried using a Stihl 13/64" 5.2mm file on an Oregon or Husky 3/8" pitch chain as apposed to the standard 7/32" or 5.5mm file. Given the smaller diameter file you would obviously get a smaller but deeper gullet and a sharper working corner. Initially better cutting performance but would the chain become blunt quicker? I'd be interested in the forums thoughts on this. Thanks, i hope i have the correct file sizes.
  9. The best value in fully synth oil is to be found in Halfords. Castrol 2T racing, €16 for one litre compared to €30 for one litre of Stihl ultra in my local dealers. Wes tipped me off, legend Wes!
  10. Indeed, i'll have to go back to the shop and swap it for a 850mm hitch. What would someone use a 600mm hitch for? Thanks.
  11. I had a look on skyland and honey bros and their hitches seem to be either 750mm or 900mm mine is 600mm. I can't seem to attach pictures to a post, i'm being asked for a url. I took some pictures of the lanyard setup i have on the harness. I could email the pictures to you if you send me your address. Sound.
  12. Indeed, i had a look but my hitch seems to be too short. What lenght do fellas normally use?
  13. Just starting out as a climber, i bought some gear Yesterday and i'm trying to tie a distel hitch with an eye to eye prussik as a lanyard adjuster. It's a 600mm lenght of cord but it seems to be too short plus the splices are very long and covered with this plastic stuff that makes the ends of the cord very stiff. I can barley get three wraps around the lanyard. Some advice including pictures and maybe a good video on how to set up an adjustable lanyard with a distel and micro pulley would be appreciated. Thanks.
  14. Outstanding, good man. I'll be there looking at all the stuff I can't afford to buy!
  15. Any news on the Irish and or UK Forestry shows 2015? Dates and locations? Thanks.
  16. So a 35hp minimum to run a 6''? It's a fine line between portability and power.
  17. Thanks for all the advice lads, Kubota seem to be the way to go. I've heard some concerns about p.t.o chippers being a bit weak compared to a road towable or a tracked model. Any truth to this? Would a Timberwolf or Greenmech 6' 'pto driven chipper be able to go all Day every Day?
  18. I'm looking into buying a compact tractor and PTO wood chipper, I'd need the tractor to be powerful yet portable. I'm thinking of a John Deere or a Kubota tractor say around 30hp with maybe a 6'' Timberwolf P.T.O driven chipper. I'd need a trailer as well to bring them around to jobs. Any advice would be welcome, Thanks.
  19. Groundsman seeks work in Cork (Ireland) specifically in the Mid-Cork and Lee Valley area around Macroom but I'm willing to travel for work. I have CS 30, 31, 32, my own PPE, two ground saws, felling gear, safe pass, full clean drivers licence and my own tipper. Please pm me if interested.
  20. Good man, I'm considering my options. I have asked a few dealers for a trade in but because the 241 isn't that popular they haven't much interest. If it was a 261 it would be a different story. What to do indeed, I might put it up for sale as it would suit a part time user for cutting fire wood.
  21. Thanks for the reply, I had a look and their isn't anything there for a 241. The saw is a fairly new model so I'd say I'm out of luck.
  22. I've soaked mine in petrol or diesel overnight then cleaned them with a wire brush wheel on a bench grinder. Often times the chains aren't that dull it's just that there caked in sap and resin. A bit more work but less time spent sharpening is always good. Not a job for a week night of course, nothing like a Saturday evening sharpening chains in the workshop!
  23. All of them on the fly wheel side, I could use the saw as is but I'd destroy it over time due to over heating. Those fins are there for a reason after all. I'll post a picture of the damage asap.
  24. Does anyone out there have a cylinder head for a Stihl ms 241 c-m? My saw was clipped by a block of timber on the job the other Day, the cooling fins on the cylinder head were smashed off. I got a price from the local dealer for a replacement but I'd have to buy the piston as well, 430 Euro was the price I was given. I nearly had a stroke when I heard the price, to put it simply I can't afford to fix it for that money but I can't afford not to have the saw running given the money I paid for it and it's only a Year old. Any help would be appreciated.
