  1. So the thread in the cylinder failed not the spark plug stripping the thread. I bought a MS460 with a stripped thread someone had tried to repair, you could have fitted a bigger plug in it by the time there was enough metal left to cut into. I bought a genuine Stihl cylinder and piston and when I stripped it found the piston in it had a cracked land so it needed the full repair.
  2. Put your approximate location in your profile and someone will probably be close enough to give you some pointers like Mark has offered. If the saw runs and keeps running use it but get it started and find out before the day you need it or you will be disappointed and frustrated, nothing worse than pulling on a cord for 5 minutes getting out of breath. Flick the brake on and make sure it holds the chain, watch a couple of videos to see where they go wrong or what to avoid. You could buy a small saw like Husqvarna 120 for about £130 from a lot of suppliers and get started, get a few spare chains as well.
  3. A friend of mine had a TS410 given him. It would fire but not run and had been to a "garden repair" shop. I cleaned it all up and rebuilt the carb, blew everything out with the compressor and it ran but wouldn't rev out. Everything checked out fine with good compression etc. He bought a new filter and it still wouldn't rev so I put a carb kit in it and had the carb body sonic cleaned and it was perfect.
  4. You have to wear a mask in Tesco.
  5. You don't need a power tool it will scrape off with a piece of aluminium and clean up with wet and dry wrapped round a dowel. Fire some carb or brake cleaner at it to soften it up and don't be impatient.
  6. As they are called round here, carpet carriers My mate asked one in the pub if he had boils under his armpits, he nearly had to turn sideways to get in the door.
  7. Access to the cut from the other side of a tree ?
  8. If it ain't broke don't fix it. If it's running and cutting crack on.

    gasket

There's a carb with two gaskets for £20ish on Amazon so they are available. I didn't see any on my 135 which is similar saw.

If an AO41 works I'll get one when it needs replacing thanks.

Mine's like that and if I try to sort it it lags on pickup so it gets left alone. The chain is not running till I trigger it so it's not a problem. It has a decent bar on it but if I change it I would like to try a 10" replacement. What is the bar pattern on them anybody ?

    gasket

The carb should fasten to a plastic manifold which is flexible and the manifold fastens to the cylinder, no gasket.

    Mot testing

I had 2 broken front springs on the Berlingo. They are big springs and notorious for letting go in the wind up compressors so I invested in a foot operated hydraulic one for £110 and it was still cheaper than getting them done at a garage. It's done a few now so not been wasted. On the advisories front a friend of ours used to have a used car lot and when he took cars for the MOT he told the tester not to put advisories down or he would be swapping garages. He put a fair bit of money their way so they were reluctant to lose his trade.

I've had mine for a while and the brake and everything work fine. The plastic's a bit tacky and the carb has been sorted out a few times as it used to go out of tune but it's good now.
  15. That's what Jonathan Ross calls common people.
  16. It's called table tennis if you are serious about it They make bats as well. If they'd had the top handles on ebay earlier I would have got one instead of the Chinese one I bought.
  17. Once our fire is lit it doesn't make smoke and if there is any it goes up the chimney with the draw from the warm air. I rattle the ash into the bottom pan then lift it out and put the box I made over it so it doesn't get in the house. I use a little rechargeable vacuum for the hearth and tip it all on the garden and dig it in.
  18. What's the difference between a buffalo and a bison ? You cant wash your face in a buffalo 🙄
  19. Snowing here and settling, wet stuff though 😝
  20. Common sense says it, one rule for them and another for us.
  21. A loose tie wrap round the handle works
  22. Are the saws the same apart from the thickness of the con rod little end ? You could try a couple of 1mm washers either side of the little end bearing but it might be fiddly getting them in there.
  23. I had one do that and it had the cleanest carb anywhere till I tried another coil. Very perplexing.
  24. You want to scrap the old clunker that got stuck, I'd offer to take it off your hands but you're too far away 😷
  25. I don't take my saws to the tip, it's probably nervous 😱
