I use saws (all less less 4 years old) when not at my main (non forestry job). I use mostly an E5 petrol-oil mix - to keep down costs - but, every 4-5 fills, use Aspen in the belief (which may be mistaken!) that it helps to clean the spark plug and combustion chamber. However, I use Aspen all the time in my petrol mower because it starts more easily and I don't get through as much as if I was using it permanently in the saws.

Thanks to all for the suggestions. I never drop start saws. Pawls and spring are good. I seem to recall the cord 'whipping back' prior to the first broken pulley - but not the second. The (original cord) is a couple of inches shorter after I cut the knot above the starter handle twice. Think I'll try a new (full length) cord and being less 'aggressive'!

Was using my (fairly new) Husky 435 II and heard a rattling sound. Subsequent investigation revealed that the starter pulley had broken. Fitted a genuine replacement, started the saw up and shut it down around 5 times - only to find the exact same thing had happened again! Am (understandly) reluctant to fit another pulley without understanding what the cause might be. Has this happened to anyone else?

The Oregons Yukons fit me well and are cheap. I just accept that they will need replacing more often and try and remember to re-proof them regularly!
