  1. I've explained this to them but asusual it's a customer who thinks topping will solve all their problems and won't listen to rational answers. I wouldn't mind if it was a crappy conifer but this is a tree of great amenity value. They only want 10ft off
  2. It's already covered by conservation area will talk to tree officer about it. He knows the tree well so any work won't go unnoticed
  3. I guess this post is more of a rant than advice but here goes. I went and looked at a beautiful redwood tree in my local village. It's a landmark and is seen as your coming up to the green from most directions. The tree is believed to have been one of the first planted in the UK although not the tallest. It was planted by an army major who lived at the house in the 1850s and was measured 5 years ago at 101ft and he a girth of 7.75m. The customer has asked me to have a look and gave the usual it has grown so big in the last year!! What's wrong with these people did they not notice the size of the tree when they bought the house it's been the same size give or take a bit since I've lived in the village the last few years. I was asked my opinion on what should be done with the tree and I have advised removing the deadwood thinning in places to help windflow and tidying up several low branches that over hang the roof which their chimney sweep hacked away! I've had a chat with my local tree officer about my proposals as its inside a conservation area and then spoke with the customers. The customer has now decided that they want 10ft off the top and more branches shortened which in my opinion is pointless and will ruin the tree. I've told them this and that we would not be allowed anyway due to the conservation area. I'm not willing to carry out this as I'm fed up with customers asking me to carry out substandard work to their trees. I have walked away from more customers this last year who have asked similar things only to drive past and see butchered trees 2 months later. What concerns me is that this will happen to this redwood and it will be ruined by someone. I'd love to carry out my original proposals to the tree as it would be a pleasure to work on and a great climb it just annoys me that customers don't listen to best advice they wouldn't do this to an electrician or plumber. Sorry rant over now
  4. Sorry to hear this I'll keep an ear out for you I'm reasonably local to you. Bastards I got done this time last year I feel for you mate
  5. Yes that would be lovely ☺️
  6. It's a civil matter rather than criminal law. The police may be called to prevent breach of peace etc but would only result in a civil offence in which the neighbour would need to contact a solicitor and take matters further.
  7. I'd tell them to grow up and start acting like adults. The only thing you have to do by law is offer the arisings back to the neighbour they don't have to accept its just to negate the fact that you could be "stealing" a few holly branches 😕 Just chuck them through the chipper with the rest of the waste will be easier for you rather than having the neighbours moaning at you making your business look bad. No harm in having a chat with the neighbours before you carry out the work they may be as nice as pie and let you enter their garden it's just that they didn't want to talk to your customer or be helpful to them. Sorry for being blunt had my fill of neighbours being children recently
  8. Lovely day in Suffolk yesterday I was working in a t shirt can't believe it 2 days before Xmas
  9. Now I'm not superstitious but in the last year I've done two elder clearance jobs. Three days after the first one my truck was written off whilst parked up. The second job I did two days after my truck was broken into and all my gear nicked. I'd like to think it's just coincidence either that or I've annoyed the elder goddess 😠
  10. Me and my Gretsch bass a few months back at an outdoor gig. I've also got a 94 Fender Tele and Takamine acoustic when I get time to have a practice 😃
  11. These are the only things putting me off. I can drive a 7.5t and would come in so handy just seems crazy having all the extra cost of op licence checks tacho just to save a chip run or 6

  15. I didn't have some receipts when I got turned over but had a few pics of tools etc and insurance were ok with that
  16. Ive always liked the idea of a eucalyptus or blue cedar hedge both would be interesting I reckon the eucalyptus could work with regular cutting
  17. I know at the time I'd just started the business so had to make some sacrifices I have huge regrets now 😖Only got a 94 Tele and a Takamine acoustic now. I play bass in a band so so my money is spent on that now 😃
  18. I used to have an AC30 not an original one of the modern versions. It was still a cracking amp real old school tube tone. I used to put my epiphone casino through it and it was a real vintage sound. Should never have sold the thing but times were hard a few years back so my guitar collection had to be made smaller well that's what the missus made me do 😜
  19. I bought a 1600kg ace winch last year of fleabay for £150 I think. Can't fault it it's done a fair amount of work now and not disappointed. At that price if it lasts a couple of years it's not the end of the world if it breaks eventually.
  20. There special niche websites for thoughts like that 😃
