  2. Wouldn't of thought there'd be many cavities for bats in trees that small, but you never know! Pips sometimes under loose bark and in splits though but I can't see you gettin in trouble felling them.
  3. Was at £2.20 this morning!
  4. How big are they?
  5. Best yet!
  6. There's a seller with 2 more at £7k and 108k miles, obviously not as tidy!,but still barely run in! My friend just weighed his 814 van in with over 700,000 on the clock

  12. Hi, does anyone know if there's a decent aftermarket piston available for 550xp? Can't find one on meteor website although they now do em for 555/560. Thanks john
  13. The ecologist who did the bat survey for my wood (who does a lot of work for Norfolk wildlife trust) told me that he and several others felt there is more than enough protection for bats and that if more legislation is brought in it will encourage landowners/developers etc to be less likely to involve experts ( he telled it much better than wot I can! ). FWIW I wholeheartedly agree with him. As far as equal protection regardless of type, surely this is how it has to be as numbers of all bats are declining and although pips are, relatively, common they have similar habitat and habits of much rarer ones. Hope that makes sense?
  14. Yeah but think of the interesting figure held within
  15. What a beautiful little engine, sounds sweet
  16. We have had to 'soft fell' trees which are possible roosts, this usually just means dismantling and gently lowering sections containing cavities/likely roosting spots (I've found pipistrelles under loose bark before) and usually in the presence of a licensed handler. The sections are left overnight and the bats find a new roost. There are different types of roost for different times of year, winter, maternal, day etc. So you really need to know what bats are local, likely to be there and when. As a clue to how seriously it's taken: my cousin got planning permission for a barn conversion at his place in Sussex and when a colony of ( can't remember what ) of bats was found they pulled the consent!
  17. That might be worth it just to see ya try! 250£ cash?
  18. My truck without it I'd have to walk everywhere
  19. I've looked at a lot of vids of homemade band mills and ride on lawnmower or small car wheels with tyres on seem to be popular
  20. LOL, at 47 I still love the Clangers
  21. I reckon the ideal material for this retort would be produced by a branch logger? I've been thinking of getting someone to make me a wood burner to run specifically on it as well as filling my ring kilns with it. I'd be well happy replacing them with a smallish retort for quicker turnaround
  22. Can't remember which one it was but I went to see one demo d in about 2000 in the Midlands that had charge chambers either side of fire box and you could dump n reload for continuous running
  23. You could dump each batch into a large (sealable) bin to cool. If you can make a wee one for a few hundred could you not make a mid sized one for couple o grand, as opposed to 10k+ for a 'proper' one to do, say, 2 burns a day?
