  1. Been asked to plant about 2km of hedge labour only, 6 per m, plants, spirals n canes supplied. We’ve not done any for about 10yrs and that was 4 per m, we used to get about £1.50 per m and do average 300m a day on heavy clay (3 of us) Wondering what people would charge now? Cheers john
  2. We have one here as well, they are shite, just want to sell you new machines and over charge for chains etc. Recently my 880 spat out c clip sprocket and needle bearing as I started back cut on 3’ dbh dead oak, sprocket found but alas needle bearing knackered n clip evaporated! I called 5 Stihl dealers and none had bearing or clip, so I called Halls Power Equipment a husky dealer and they found me the bits ‘out back’ immediately! I find they’re the only saw specialist who carry a good amount of bits n bobs for almost any pro saw. None of these bigger dealers seem to carry even the most basic of spares on the shelf. I always buy my new saws from Halls in spite of them being 50 odd quid more as there service and back up is superb!
  3. Hi Gimlet, out of interest, what’s the feature/s of the hedging axe that make it fit for purpose?
  4. No Spud, I think if you you check previous threads on the subject, Matt Allwright is involved with Rouge Traders? Seriously though, every time they’ve investigated this subject it’s been the same family, working from around London hasn’t it? 2 days after the episode where the filmed them in the house looking for money while the old girl was upstairs we saw the same arseholes/trick &chipper on Dereham Rd in Norwich. So they get about
  5. [emoji106]That’s what I was getting at
  6. Surely in order for that to work you would need a system similar to v5 document for 2nd/3rd/4th hand machines, otherwise there could b a massive lag in getting an urgently needed replacement part , I bought my 1928 from a non greenmech forestry machinery dealer and I don’t know who they got it off.....
  7. I bought the ally one from rob D with loop for brash (woodchuck?) it’s ok but have only used the loop once as I can shoulder as much without the hassle of putting the wire on. I’ve never found it satisfying to use although it does its job, I’ve recently bought a short husky one with hickory handle, much more ergonomically pleasing, it has forged head so presume it is actually made by hultafors like the wood handled forged axes husky sell
  8. I’ve only used the old 6 lever and (slightly) more modern 4 lever configurations. We looked at all singing all dancing permanently fixed controls on a valtra but it just didn’t seem worth the cost of fitting
  9. That’s great news![emoji106]
  10. Fuelwood Warwick are the dealer (and very good after sales/ knowledge) Parallel movement is when you are carrying out more than one action with the crane, in simplest terms, with most cranes if, for example, you lift and slew at the same time one action will slow the other down but with the Mowi cranes you can basically 2 or more actions at once without one dominating. I’ve had colleagues say it doesn’t make a difference but then hav a go and say ‘ahh I get it now’
  11. So a month on have you had any joy?
  12. I notice in your opening post you don’t mention Mowi, these are the only cranes with true parallel movement. They also come with slewing drawbar as standard which imho is essential, particularly in thinning work. I operate an (8 t) one on my valmet 865 (90hp) and also a Botex 8090(12t?) on a Valtra 123N, I prefer the Mowi...... it’s just smoother to use and they lift much more than they look like they will! Hope this is helpful John
  13. Did you get this up and running? I noticed you were looking for a static one last year.
  14. I bought a used 1928 tt road tow earlier this year and apart from the wee fuel pump playin up (£45 to replace) it’s been fantastic, as others have said the people at green mech are more than helpful, I’m a fan of TW as well and before I tried the GM I was sceptical as I’d only used early ones 15+ years ago and found them lacking particularly on connies, they’ve come on a long way since then. At nearly 1.5 tonne they’re heavy though.

    Cabstar

Yep, I’ve used him on spuddog’s recommendation and he is both knowledgeable and efficient!
  17. What part of Norfolk you in?
  18. My son works on grounds maintenance for LA and said one of his colleagues came back from another site with a bag of em the size of large grapefruit (still in husk obvs!) I’d presume nuts were similar size inside?
  19. Would’ve been interesting seeing the legions of blowtorch wielding chisel monkeys among the phytophthora infected larch plantations a few years ago
  20. - in no particular order but one of them definitely wasn't welcome. Would that b the wee striped fella?
  21. My mate had his 150 done a couple of years ago, he stripped it himself and then took it to blast n spray was about 500
