Normally would’ve cut milling timber at 3.1 or over but we’d been told by middle man everything was to be for biomass/ firewood until woodland owner visited site and it was pointed out he’d get a better return on milling timber but a fair bit was already cut, a couple loads mix of Douglas, larch, Scots n WRC did get sold, not sure on price tho
  2. We cut all timber for firewood at 3 and all sticks for milling as long as possible as long as it’s straight. Couple of years ago we cut about 25 t of Douglas at 3 (with a top diameter of a min. 12” but up to 24”) at 3m and none of the mills were interested at milling timber prices so it went into estates biomass stack. Seemed such a waste of good timber.
  3. Piston ring pin came out on mine after a couple of months (used daily forestry work) dealer fixed under warranty, but I do worry it’ll go again, dealer said they’ve had a few do it but more with 560s
  4. This one came down in last fridays wind as well, onto roof of a half wayhouse, looks the same but I thought it was grey poplar? Was 3’ dbh, had to hav 60t crane in to get it off roof, then dismantle 2 more @ 3’ and 2’ which would’ve followed at some point because of leans

I bought this old log splitter, a while back, off an old chap who used to do his own logs, but now too old to be bothered (his words!), he said it spits a bit of oil at breather, but apart from that works ok. So as it was cheap I thought I’d take a punt as quite a simple looking machine, even tho I know little about hydraulics. It’s American, a Quick-Split, made by GE Mann Inc, 5.5 hp B&S engine and NOT like the modern kinetic machine of the same name and I can fine nothing about them online except for a trademark reg. date in the late 70s and a couple of pics of what seems to be an earlier model. So it’s been sat in a corner til I had a bit of time to fiddle.... fired up easy n runs sweet. No leaking hydraulic oil for first couple in/outs of ram, you can see air start to bubble the oil in flow and return pipes, then started to spit intermittently, varying, amounts of oil, from breather behind splitter blade and wouldn’t split (low oil) So I tightened the clear pipes (figured might b drawing in air) and topped oil up. Bubbled a bit from breather and oil was aerated(?) in pipes again but after one cycle settled down and splits very nicely (but it’s certainly not quick![emoji849]) and seems to be pretty powerful. After about 10 mins started to spit oil again and as time went on the amount increased almost as if the more it lost the more it wanted lose so topped oil up and started again still warm and it was fine for a bit but then started to do the same. It seems to spit the oil about 4” from beginning and end of cycle most of the time and makes no difference whether it’s under load or not. Anyone got any thoughts on it! Cheers John

  12. I had this problem, even nipped off end fin on rear adjustment and super glued it for better fit.... still a bit tight, then had to borrow a mates (also big fat head like mine) and it was perfect fit! Compared and adjusted as allseasons says and it’s been fine since

  16. I’ve been looking at the treerex, my sequoia needs replacing, and it it’s price is appealing. However I’m unsure as to what comes with it, bridge wise, i know prob not the srt bit but do you get 2 of which one has prussik?

  19. I’ve tried most of the car spares/ motor factors shops round here. Would be a fair sized push bike as the cable is 4.2m long!

  23. Hi can anyone point me in direction of somewhere that I can get front section of handbrake cable for an 04 cabstar? I’m hoping there’s a ‘specialist’ somewhere in uk, I’m having problems sourcing one as there seem to be multiple configurations, both main dealers have not been much help in spite of being given necessary details.
