  1. Cool ,never seen that done before did you rig up that petrol engine,I have just got a Wadkin thicknesser that is 3 phase so now on the lookout for a 3 phase converter ,but looking at that setup,that might be an option.how much do you want for it just out of interest. Cheers Mark

Hi Mr Monkey,but is it just me but I think £180 for one board 2.5mtrs long is bloody expensive so yep it is me wanting it cheaper than £180 but if I can I would like to deal with fellow arbtalkers .so the size I need to make 2 benches 2.5mtrs long 300/350 wide and 50mm thick or there about .   8. Hi ,so an update on the Brown Oak was quoted £180 from one place and Tyler Hardwoods don’t have the size I need , so does anybody have any

  11. The Brown Oak,that I have seen has been all brown,but I haven’t seen that much.
  12. Hi just found some brown oak hopefully Tyler Hardwoods at Marlborough ,and half the price rough quote £80 , for 2.5 mtrs long 500 wide and 52 thick , Happy days .

Hi guys does anybody have a plank of brown oak about 2 and a half Mars long 50cms wide and 50mm thick ,I am in desperate need of some I bought a plank from a matey who runs a sawmill,at not a very good price,so made the table and now need another board for the benches to go with it the price has gone up quite a lot ,I know we all need to make a living but hey .So Looking for a brown oak board Thanks Mark

  19. Hi everyone just thought I would give you an update on how I cut the legs ,I used one of those saws from Japan ,bloody ace such a nice cut ,took a bit of getting used to but ace saw ,I think I will get more of them

Hi Andy, yeah just a small off set 2mm just as you drill the hole go through the front and the tendon then just mark the back of the mortise remove the head board clamp an off cut to the back to avoid break out then just eye it over slightly and away to go ,well that’s how I was taught , good luck and do post some pics when done , I quite often will use a contrasting coloured wood for pegs as a bit of a feature ,yew and greenheart work well in my experience, I can send you some greenheart if you want. Hi if you are going to peg right through to avoid glue slightly off set the rear dowel hole as then if you leave the peg an inch or so proud if it loosens up as it drys you will be able to tap the dowel in a bit and keep it tight ,that’s how I was taught to do pegs on Oak framing ,Looks Ace ,a bed is one of those things I keep saying I am going to make myself but never get round to it

  23. Hi it’s nice to carve but just will not last outside but for anything inside it’s like lime and have a look at what Grinlin Gibbons carved with lime it’s totaly stunning
  24. Hi I have a big old Makita circular saw hand held and for rough stuff it’s ace if I had time to adapt something so it could run on the track that came with the makita track saw that would be cool ,but I just can’t find a big chop saw .
