  1. I have about 200 nets of softwood which was sitting full of wood wasp larvae, didn't look at them this year but think ill be burning it myself as nobody is after softwood round here.
  2. yep don't have a market for softwood.
  3. very slow on the retail side and busiest year ever on the trade side. not sure we even made it to 5 cube this week must be the slowest run up to Christmas in 10 years.
  4. 8-12 weighed a few to test and they were 9-10kg
  5. so what price are you selling your nets at then, my 40x56 are 5.99 retail and 3.00 + vat wholesale and I have been filling them steady since start of Nov.
  6. don't forget a lot of it is intentionally spread about like the dutch elm follow it back you will find someone getting a good turn out of it. I would be interested whether the ash is given a chance to recover or if it's removed as soon as the disease is found as my dad had a small ash in the garden looked like it was dying off but then recovered.
  7. Palfinger 2700 runs about £12k fitted, as has been said you really lose a lot of capacity even with spare wheel removed and chassis cut down a bit we can only carry 850kg but wouldn't be without it.
  8. I still use the 090 which is almost 4kg heavier before you put a bar on it.
  9. id recommend cut the 3 acres sell to someone already established and move onto something else with better prospects.
  10. Can't say as I have noticed any difference since being registered and I don't think anyone has even mentioned the BSL to us.
  11. mostly orders from trade customers for net sacks which are time consuming for not much profit at least there is some snow on the forecast for next few days maybe that will improve things.
  12. they either come off the processor or we score a guide line on the sawbench.
  13. if your making good money at those prices whoever is giving you the timber doesn't know it's value.
  14. I'm also using the trailer as it's perfect height, I mostly have 1/2" +- and occasionally ill put a short log in if it fills a gap nobody has complained yet. normally do around 1k nets a season and this year heading for 2.5k already.

    Prices

£40 a cube is the cost of the cord before any processing bagging or delivery. last 2 or 3 quotes for wood we had were all £60 + vat so £72 a ton and you get 1.5 cube bags to the ton if your selling at this price your paying the customer to buy your logs. even if you get the timber for free and don't pay tax you would make more selling it to the professionals as cord.
  16. was just about to mention that, try reading trading standards thread on page 2 doesn't seem to be an issue in Englandshire yet even if the same rules apply.
  17. it's not just what they are not planting they are refusing to cut what is already there, that job at blackford there could have been 2-300+ tons of hardwood but they left it standing and most of the softwood was sitting roadside with no market they might have moved the pulp and the job a bit further at the old site for little chef also had hardwood at the back and they have left that standing too.
  18. might consider beech if it was processor size but not birch
  19. Anyone been offered cord shipped in from the Baltics, we had a phonecall the other day they are about to start barging it into Montrose £60 ton for birch.
  20. We found the same, taking longer to produce 1m3 billets than 1m3 logs off the processor doesn't make sense to us selling it cheaper even if your paying less for the timber it's marginal. if you can get single pass you can get decent speed but most needs to go through 2 or 3 times and theres then also alot of waste.
  21. I had green oak in a 90x90 bag and it weighed 470kg thereabouts but it was fresh felled to try and get as heavy as possible.
  22. for ibc's i would have thought they will come in at 700kg+ if green and seasoned you will still be flirting with the 500kg so min would be 1k, kg set
  23. none available at any price from the local company's, we got offered a load of birch around feb £60 ton from English company.
  24. we gave up trying to buy wood in this year everyone we called had nothing to offer and no hardwood felling planned we will just make do with what was in the yard and hope some comes to market next year. still amazes me people selling £40 a cube when timber is becoming so hard to source.
  25. would need to be big logs or well sheltered otherwise your just increasing the weight when the wind carries it through the air.
