  1. Theres a guy at cumbernauld can't remember the name at the moment used to be a sawmill who's kiln drying his logs to 6 or 8% I get £120 a cube for my air dried & £94 for my 0.73 bags
  2. we had a customer used to put his logs in a wheelbarrow of water for 2-3 days before he burned them. had another who tried kiln dried they cost 30-40% more to buy and he couldn't see any difference in heat and they also burned too fast so refuses to buy them again.
  3. frost coming out of the ground, a bit of heat in the sun definitely not good for the log sales here.
  4. we had the spare wheel removed the chassis cut shorter aluminium bed fitted basically if it could be cut off or made lighter it was and we still lost around 500kg from the payload capacity we have max 875kg now from 1.4-1.5t which means 2 90x90 bags of seasoned hardwood.
  5. I use a short sling on 1 loop and never have any problems emptying
  6. it was mostly beech, it was a good price because we got screwed on a previous load but price does seem to be falling here. peaked at 55+vat
  7. I would recommend if you can afford it going hydraulic if you have many deliveries with walls or high hedges so you can lift over, if you add power you can hang a winch for basement deliveries. height can be an issue for putting in carports and garages if you just have kingpost and boom a 2 boom system would be an advantage there. I also wouldn't skimp on the support ours got a full underchasis frame for support, another merchant here just used a plate underneath to bolt to and they seem to be in at the welders every other week.
  8. last load I had mid december was mixed beech birch upto 20" £31 delivered down £15 on previous loads.
  9. did you bore cut?
  10. varies widely every year, last year was our worst ever barely did 300 cube could have made twice as much driving someones harvester. this year haven't counted yet but I would guess we are 3-400 cube already and it's still not been a great season.
  11. for 150 miles yes full load doesn't have to be to a single address though as long as they are not 15 20 miles apart so friends can order a load between them, we will do up to 50,60 miles with 2 bags depending on the roads if its all B roads we would look for 3 or 4 bags or you wait until we can combine with another order but we try to get most orders out same day or next day, we put a mileage option on the website and never had to charge yet, people just increase their order to get free delivery.
  12. upto 150 miles foc delivery. 8 bag load can take less time and fuel to deliver 150 miles away than doing multiple runs of 20 miles down the twisty roads of fife. https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3924/15123529899_ce37f2cc87.jpg' alt='15123529899_ce37f2cc87.jpg'>20140921_111022 by Logsnstuff, on Flickr[/img]
  13. We found last year burning holes and tarping the top just didn't work, with the amount of rain and wind the water would still get into the bag but not drain fast enough and some of the bags the bottom third of the logs turned black, using mesh bags this year and finding them far superior.
  14. my target levels are 15% - 25%
  15. that's the nets of wet softwood labelled suitable for open fires. the ones I looked at were totally green and sitting in the rain.
  16. mine blew away so often that when it landed in the bonfire I left it there.
  17. Pitfalls are you agree a price for hardwood and when the load comes in the forwarder driver has shoved 25% softwood into the pile because hes too lazy to grade it properly and it's just firewood, or joe bloggs down the road offered 50p a ton more so we sent your cord there instead. I would agree with the others look at expanding the arb waste with a better splitter like the link I posted in jons big butts some of these look like they might have pretty good production speeds. or get into the big processors but not much point if you don't have the customer base unless your going to do contract processing. can't see anyone revealing to you a supplier of cheap cord.
  18. he might end up like the estates round here buying their own processors.
  19. it was but also good fun and nice to finally see a decent depth of snow.
  20. 12 hrs today for a delivery can normally do in 6 1/2, jacknifed lorry on the way up took 3 hrs then blew the hydraulics in the crane and 2 more lorries stuck in the snow on the way back almost 100 miles of unploughed road, on the return were getting drifts over 2ft deep.
  21. cross your fingers Jon, we had a load delivered in start of december £31 per ton mostly a mix birch & beech with a little bit of other stuff mixed in. haven't been on the phone to see if theres anything else out there atm.
  22. :thumbup1:
  23. it seems to be a thing with Scots folk not to buy early, we have tried to get people to buy in the spring and there are only a handful do it, the rest prefer to wait until Oct/Nov and then tell you the logs are wet because it was pouring rain when you delivered. last year we sent out 6-700 fliers to our customers offering 40% discount we sold 7 bags.
  24. We have had the 30t stuck in a few pieces so I would say if you have the budget go for the 50t that's with 2.2 or 2.4m I think you can put on the posch.
  25. snowing here today.
