  1. I already said I don't have a problem him doing his own logs he shouldn't be buying from trade sources, problem here is too many see logs as a waste product and don't give a hoot about undercutting log merchants but when someone talks about price cutting treesurgery then you see some drama on here it's double standards.
  2. I'm well aware you don't like swearing even though it's a trade forum aimed at adults. You have missed the point that the fact the warning was for calling someone a troll when his posts read that way to me that makes him a troll the fact your mod reads it a different way doesn't change this.
  3. Hi Joy I try to make allowances for the fact it's 2d conversation the fact this guy went from harassing 1 guy to then posting something at me is trolling the fact this moderator doesn't agree or understand what trolling is doesn't change the fact it's a subjective topic the fact I opened this thread was because of his pm's saying the conversations which come across as harassment to me are fine majority not even directed at me I just happen to be reading them over several days. I couldn't give a monkeys people know you gave me some infraction thing Like banning me from posting it's hardly important you want to permit this kinda keyboard terrorism put it in your rules.
  4. You want to exploit a trade forum to exclude log merchants fine I'm disappointed people actually answered you I'm just wishing some karma back on you is all I don't mind if you chop your own logs or not.
  5. better be careful Jon admin loves these guys say too much you will get an infraction pm too Thanks
  6. as I received one today for pointing out something clearly visible going on in a couple of threads which I won't repeat to keep people happy, just now wondering is the amount of abuse you can dish out at people before you get a warning dependant on how much you donate to the sites charity as some certainly have a lot more leeway than others.
  7. as a professional arsehole your certainly top of your field congrats.
  8. who's sulking I'm entitled to an opinion why don't you go back to trolling on kilns.
  9. when the value of the timber in the round at roadside is about £40 a cube think you need to rework your figures. softwood clearfell up here around 300 tons landowner was quoted £10k + all the timber
  10. Lets hope when you start your next business everyone decides to bypass you then.
  11. my air dried is 13 to 16% start of the season a kiln might go lower but to no advantage as the American study said domestic stoves become inefficient below 15%mc Polytunnel 30x90ft with 1mtr leg extensions will hold 500 0.73m3 bags
  12. when you calculated the big saving did you put a cost on the 6 weeks you spent splitting logs, pretty sure you wouldn't work at your normal job for free.
  13. go as powerful as your budget will stretch too, we have had the 30t stuck and had to cut logs off it, if could afford it I'd go 50t+but we do split some very ugly wood.
  14. last company we rejected a load on don't sell to us anymore, they sent in a load of beech which was rotten and not the quality we provide.
  15. we had 1 load come in and i don't think there was a stick in it that didn't have mud on it had to drop every grabfull from about 20 ft to knock the stuff off.
  16. something to compare when your on about harvesters is they are cutting standing timber with minimal dirt on them firewood coming in usually has quite a bit of mud on it whether splashing from roadside traffic or just ground conditions of where its been stacked, we used to still rotate a set of 5 chains on the harvester and they do need quite a bit of sharpening daily.
  17. been splitting billets for a few weeks on and off and I reckon it takes easily twice as long as processing a cube through the processor, softwood would rattle through no probs if only I had some customers for it but hardwood is a nightmare especially the seasoned syc that didnt get done last year. did buy the smallest set of Clarks timber tongs when went down to Wilson's demo day and they are working fantastic on the verticals winch, their large pickaroon gadget not so good though going to have top tackle it with a grinder atm just bounces off hardwoods.
  18. still reckon a lot of people don't do any conversion at all, people buying in artic loads of hardwood but selling at £40 a cube to me it's how big a loss are you making but they claim to make a very good profit. I just base everything on 1.5 to the ton and don't buy oak.
  19. rented mine out a couple of times and wouldn't do it again without an operator think they ran competitions to see what sort of thing it would cut. normal re sharpening costs around £45 last time on a 4 day hire it was £90 had so many broken teeth to replace.
  20. makes it even worse you want to do jobs for cost. there was same problem in forestry with farmers diversification they all bought harvesters on grant money and came in at 50% below everyone else.
  21. good to finally hear someone else saying you don't have to be the cheapest some people value quality over price.
  22. had a pile of bags heading for the fire when spotted a robin going inside luckily only took 2-3 days and the nest was empty.
  23. if you have charged the customer for landfill then why can't you give it away foc?
  24. yes you can, most jobs should have a price included for landfill.
  25. took a run down after all and quite surprised how big the demo area has gotten over last couple of years, still quite fancy one of the billet cutters looked quite good machine but the only money spent was a new pair of boots and a big pickaroon at clarks.
