  1. Pitfalls are you agree a price for hardwood and when the load comes in the forwarder driver has shoved 25% softwood into the pile because hes too lazy to grade it properly and it's just firewood, or joe bloggs down the road offered 50p a ton more so we sent your cord there instead. I would agree with the others look at expanding the arb waste with a better splitter like the link I posted in jons big butts some of these look like they might have pretty good production speeds. or get into the big processors but not much point if you don't have the customer base unless your going to do contract processing. can't see anyone revealing to you a supplier of cheap cord.
  2. he might end up like the estates round here buying their own processors.
  3. it was but also good fun and nice to finally see a decent depth of snow.
  4. 12 hrs today for a delivery can normally do in 6 1/2, jacknifed lorry on the way up took 3 hrs then blew the hydraulics in the crane and 2 more lorries stuck in the snow on the way back almost 100 miles of unploughed road, on the return were getting drifts over 2ft deep.
  5. cross your fingers Jon, we had a load delivered in start of december £31 per ton mostly a mix birch & beech with a little bit of other stuff mixed in. haven't been on the phone to see if theres anything else out there atm.
  6. :thumbup1:
  7. it seems to be a thing with Scots folk not to buy early, we have tried to get people to buy in the spring and there are only a handful do it, the rest prefer to wait until Oct/Nov and then tell you the logs are wet because it was pouring rain when you delivered. last year we sent out 6-700 fliers to our customers offering 40% discount we sold 7 bags.
  8. We have had the 30t stuck in a few pieces so I would say if you have the budget go for the 50t that's with 2.2 or 2.4m I think you can put on the posch.
  9. snowing here today.
  10. try reading my post above where I said I don't want government involved which I believe is inevitable but to what degree depends on how many rogue traders are left out there trading quite happily because others won't do anything, so imo they should be weeded out. I want to point out that the topic was end of firewood so I assumed it was intended for some ideas to change that course not an argument because an idea is put forward. twist it turn it and come up with an alternative that might be of use to someone instead of just wanting to attack. I know forestry boomed under thatcher, it's booming now under coalition the tories being in westminster not necessarily bad for the forest industry.
  11. I'm at nothing simply having a discussion, your the one jumping in with both feet if someone says something you don't like which is pretty much everything, maybe you should try engaging your brain instead of your mouth because they clearly can't work together. I'm guessing your IQ is single digits as your incapable of understanding that my post is a desire that we fix issues so big brother isn't involved, you have a chip on your shoulder which is your problem not mine.
  12. so in otherwords things wont improve until government regulates the business, as demonstrated by the responses here self regulation won't happen so it will have to be imposed.
  13. I have no problem with people not agreeing with me just the way the write it. what they all forget is this was started as a suggestion but was immediatly turned into I was shopping everyone left right and centre and if you look back only 1 or 2 people bothered to take note that I was uncommfortable with the idea of doing it myself. if you come at me aggressivly face to face or in writting im going to respond in kind.
  14. em I guess you also didn't read my sales are up this year on last seems to be common thread in this to only read 50% of what I say. did I contact hmrc ofc not I went to my bed. would people care if I shopped anyone locally no is the answer I guess we move in different circles. as it seems I'm not allowed to challenge any of the statements made to me only answer them I guess this topic is exhausted.
  15. unfortunately for us were out of range need about 300 mtr so hopefully as things improve we will be able to go this route in the future.
  16. what's useless and malicious? take a look through the posts on this forum not just this particular topic people openly admitting to selling for some beer money imo beer money is undeclared money maybe you see it differently that's your prerogative, a malicious report would be to send in someone's details you know to be honestly trading. what's wasting time in reporting people cheating the system? as to what they would do with this forum I doubt very much they would even look at it, but see how fast it silenced these honest people.
  17.
  18. I didnt't intend my part of the discussion to be limited just to log sales but more general practice. I didn't get a chance to comment on the posts that undeclared earnings doesn't necessarily mean tax avoidance but it will most likely then come into benefits fraud but someone else can take up that topic if they feel like it I have work to do.
  19. ye, he was just after logs. could maybe put signs up with a couple of dummy cameras in the open to take the abuse.
  20. so you were sort of on my side but scared of doobin and his clique of trolls? or why did you wait to speak out until it was against me. for 12-14hrs and over god knows how many pages I think it pretty pathetic only 2 people willing to risk the wrath of the bully boys on here and agree evaders should be shopped.
  21. try going verticle splitter before processor if your not sure, you can split 10 cube a day with one of those and no worries about trying to get straight cord. think global recycling with the multitek posted they hire a processor maybe think about this route and see how you get on. to get the best from a processor your going to need a log deck and something to load it with it's not just buy the machine and off you go 20 cube a day unless you have some pretty fit guys feeding it.
  22. taken a fair bit of searching finally found one of the others Rex 600 Firewood Processor | Whitlands Engineering
  23. fair enough you want me to do something so I have sent this forum to hmrc and asked them to take a look at the posts maybe now you will be happy.
  24. not really I'm just mindful that what I put here can be read by anyone and as has been mentioned I still have machinery which could be vandalised so I've tried to be a little careful in what I have said. something the posts about selling for beer money should have considered before posting.
  25. shame can't just use a 12 bore. getting them nicked is my worry also especially if you put in phone cards. you can get steel boxes to place them in but I need some convincing especially when you need 4-6 of them to cover most of the yard. spoke to DK Logs he was getting his diesel knicked eventually caught the guy on camera turned out was some travellers down the road he called the police took them 2 days to turn up by then guy had done a runner.
