  1. I will go for a 5t next time which will require operators license, the cpc I was told only required if you haul someone else's goods so will have to look into that.
  2. has a train weight of 6.5t so you can legally carry 6 x 0.75m3 bags on the trailer and 2 on the truck
  3. Thanks, we used to slide them out the back of panel van which was a killer and why I now have a bad shoulder.
  4. it has a tacho but operator license isn't needed it's 3.5t
  5. 4m palfinger crane on the back of 4x4 sprinter
  6. they came from sg baker but they discontinued and changed to the white, I don't tip the bags I leave them and collect next order.
  7. I did 1m extensions on mine for the extra height, means can go 4 bags high.
  8. only person who came back to me with a price on a kiln was £38k + vat and it needs to be installed before they even apply for the RHI and your not guaranteed to get it.
  9. £2,500 a month is what a decent sized shed will cost here to rent, I have looked at a couple, if your firewood business can afford that well done. otherwise rest of us need to keep working with tarps until can afford alternatives.
  10. nope we have gone vented this year we were burning holes in the solid sides for the last few years and the vented definitely dries the logs better, with the 5 months of rain last year the water wasn't getting a chance to drain out and the bottom logs all turned black, the vented bags we trialled let the water straight out we are getting less mold and discolouration I absolutely recommend going vented or at least trial 10 or 20 bags.
  11. yes I had similar call about 4 years ago, that night a car was waiting in the car park bottom of the yard road, it tried several times to have me drive into the back of it in the end I tore the side out of it he needed 4 new panels police reckoned write off my insurance company refused to defend the case.
  12. just been out for some kindling has turned baltic since the sun went down makes a nice change maybe the snow has come in like they suggested.
  13. bag stands too high then when you put the bench onto pallets get the wrong height for working. hoping to change the conveyor though on the processor in the future so can just use that.
  14. someone tried to say before that other countries dont use bulk bags its stacked crates and various other methods to measure, with 5 min googling i found all the scandinavian countries various mainland EU australia new zealand and canada were all moving onto FIBC bags to sell their logs.
  15. we use sawbench also for stuff upto 5 - 6" just wish we had gone for a conveyor version we drop the logs into tubs then have to lift into a bag makes it kinda slow, for the odd piece which is bigger we just turn it end on and cut in half with the saw.
  16. you do need to put in size of bag though many people talk dumpy but some refer to 0.5 or 0.6 and 0.7
  17. I don't see the problem in using bags as a measure so long as you give the size in your advert and seems the standard for mc is under 25%, with the 0.75 bags I get 220kg to 290kg depending on species, I don't put the scales on every bag unless going fully loaded.
  18. I deliver anywhere a vehicle can get to with our truck or carrier.
  19. well with what I can afford to pay myself I qualify for benefits but refuse to take them. there may be some unemployed through bad luck but the majority have taken it up as a lifestyle they are reporting 3rd generation unemployed which is just out of order, if there was no cash, no mobiles, sky tv, free pc's etc only foodbanks and 2nd hand clothing maybe then you would see people more interested in a days graft. people across the street from my sister both long term unemployed, I think they have 3 kids and they don't just have sky tv but have virgin also and she was saying they are getting free shed and a fancy playhouse from the council.
  20. i agree they dont want to work but for the discussion was giving them the benefit so to speak.
  21. I buy British underwear its about the only thing left we still manufacture, my shirts come from a factory in fife about 25 miles away, I fail to see the comparison we have the woodlands already growing, we have the population on benefits who could be maintaining the woodlands instead of sat at home watching Jeremy Kyle, we no longer have a diverse clothing manufacturing industry basically underwear or suits. go find something else that is actually widely produced in the UK but we are choosing to import instead and the use that. Almost forgot half my shoes or more are English made. my chainsaw boots are arbortec from Norfolk.
  22. agree, they told me at the testing station doesnt matter what the vehicle is if the goods/product in a trailer is ready for sale then needs tacho to transport it. timber in the round is exempt but if its split ready for the fire needs a tacho.
  23. your imports are doing away with the harvesting, planting, drainage, haulage, processing jobs, vehicle sales, fuel, mechanics to name a few examples because all these people will have no jobs when you undercut locally sourced timber, not rocket science to see the potential knock on effects. crates delivered on foreign lorries fuelled on the continent and paying no tax into uk coffers how is this a good thing?
  24. difference is firewood is being marketed as a sustainable low carbon fuel which hauled from the Balkans is not.
  25. ahh didnt he move up to Aberfeldy to war with gatehouse
