  1. forgot to ask whos selling at that price.
  2. do you have a tacho fitted to your truck for that trailer? they had a blitz round perth, put 1 guy of the road for 3 weeks till he got a company card sorted.
  3. they can try and undercut everyone but like you say no margin can they last long enough to put the existing ppl out of business every time you turn round 5 more have sprouted up.
  4. similar to how I have been doing it works pretty good if you don't get sustained rain like last year, if you use 1.2x2m tarps you get little bungees which hook into the bags I was using these guys Tarpaulins To Go
  5. if you don't pre process by several months it's going to limit the quality of your product. majority of my competition are doing what you are and they put out logs 30 - 40%mc I'm doing air dried in bakers bags and getting 12% to 14% it's worth putting the price up £5 a cube and getting no bags back for that.
  6. I charge £38 a barrow bag min order of 2 and refuse to do steps.
  7. your £16 timber still needs to be valued at £40 when your pricing your logs or your better to sell it in the round though.
  8. mesh bags in a polytunnel work great no mold, with the mesh bottom and open ends plenty air flow, I went with 1 meter extensions so can go 4 bags high in the centre 30ft by 90ft including erection 6k ish with highland but they are just using northern tunnels.
  9. 2 more estates round me have bought processors don't know what they will be charging yet. I haven't put my prices up in 3 years still £94 for 0.75m3 and £120 m3 my prices were way higher than the competition when I started but better quality logs and fast service wins and their prices are starting to catch up now. cord varies in price from £35 to £55 although had someone trying for £60 couple of weeks ago. thinking I should pack in the logs and go into tree surgery, ppl wanting £5k to cut 6 Leylandii and grind the stumps.
  10. 720 mile round trip for me so stayed at home.
  11. I had alot of them 2 years ago had some pine and douglas in the yard had been sitting couple of years was riddled with them so I chopped the stuff up but decided against selling didnt think the customers would like the maggots or the woodwasps that had formed but couldn't get out.
  12. do you leave the bags open or will you tarp later?
  13. have you ever tried to charge £140, what quality are the £60 lot I find ppl who can afford £140 are more interested on quality over price remember if you make money at £60 you can afford to lose 50% of customers and sell at £140 I do 0.75 and 1m3 now charge £94 and £120 mc on recent bags 12.9% air dried up to 21% if theres oak.
  14. roadside is £35 to £50 depending who is selling £20 £25 for oversize stuff
  15. I have a load hardwood coming in this week £40 delivered
  16. thats 8 years been trying to buy from woodlands haven't managed to get a single load yet, tried them about going back into harvesting they were supposed to have a harvesting manager get in touch been over a month and no contact same for RTS out at crieff no reply from the harvesting manager.
  17. yep have a 30t 2.4m horizontal and a couple of 19t verticles
  18. I give 10% discount if they collect never had anyone try for more, they stay at the front of yard and ill bring a bag to them. its 1/4 mile from locked gate to the logs so not many get nicked but some do. had 1 guy think he was sneaky drove in 8am sunday morning with a trailer but gate was locked and then he spotted me standing watching him havnt seen him since.
  19. only had 3 here and no snow you would barely call it autumn thats why need a good season this year
  20. did around 600 bulk 300 barrow last year, atm have 950 bulk and 200 or so barrow but we have been selling last 5-6 weeks so id guess around 1100 bulk or so was aiming for 2000 but with the fire most of the timber left to process is too big to man handle so will have to wait for next year now and just pray for long cold winter.
  21. from what I remember the top was hinged right above the splitting blade and you could lift anything out that wasn't going through too easily. only fuelwood machine I have seen had design flaw nothing putting pressure on the log as it entered the knife guy was having to use a pinch bar to stop it kicking back but that was 3-4 yrs ago.
  22. next there will be challenges to see how many bags an hr from roundwood and offcuts. get your bags at the ready can't afford a kindling machine but I would go for posch most likely.
  23. was there much hassle involved getting woodsure+? have heard a few people talking about it but as yet don't know anyone who has done it here.
  24. Kiln dried not as eco friendly as air dried
  25. I processed beech in feb the water running out of it like a tap was on measured a log yesterday was 22.9% just sitting out in one of bakers vented bags no cover.
