  1. have you ever tried to charge £140, what quality are the £60 lot I find ppl who can afford £140 are more interested on quality over price remember if you make money at £60 you can afford to lose 50% of customers and sell at £140 I do 0.75 and 1m3 now charge £94 and £120 mc on recent bags 12.9% air dried up to 21% if theres oak.
  2. roadside is £35 to £50 depending who is selling £20 £25 for oversize stuff
  3. I have a load hardwood coming in this week £40 delivered
  4. thats 8 years been trying to buy from woodlands haven't managed to get a single load yet, tried them about going back into harvesting they were supposed to have a harvesting manager get in touch been over a month and no contact same for RTS out at crieff no reply from the harvesting manager.
  5. yep have a 30t 2.4m horizontal and a couple of 19t verticles
  6. I give 10% discount if they collect never had anyone try for more, they stay at the front of yard and ill bring a bag to them. its 1/4 mile from locked gate to the logs so not many get nicked but some do. had 1 guy think he was sneaky drove in 8am sunday morning with a trailer but gate was locked and then he spotted me standing watching him havnt seen him since.
  7. only had 3 here and no snow you would barely call it autumn thats why need a good season this year
  8. did around 600 bulk 300 barrow last year, atm have 950 bulk and 200 or so barrow but we have been selling last 5-6 weeks so id guess around 1100 bulk or so was aiming for 2000 but with the fire most of the timber left to process is too big to man handle so will have to wait for next year now and just pray for long cold winter.
  9. from what I remember the top was hinged right above the splitting blade and you could lift anything out that wasn't going through too easily. only fuelwood machine I have seen had design flaw nothing putting pressure on the log as it entered the knife guy was having to use a pinch bar to stop it kicking back but that was 3-4 yrs ago.
  10. next there will be challenges to see how many bags an hr from roundwood and offcuts. get your bags at the ready can't afford a kindling machine but I would go for posch most likely.
  11. was there much hassle involved getting woodsure+? have heard a few people talking about it but as yet don't know anyone who has done it here.
  12. Kiln dried not as eco friendly as air dried
  13. I processed beech in feb the water running out of it like a tap was on measured a log yesterday was 22.9% just sitting out in one of bakers vented bags no cover.
  14. I'd agree been chasing syc for years nobody will sell it or its just not about very much syc n beech what I prefer. estates round perth are buying processors rather than putting timber on market timber supply looking grim. Drove past a scottish woodlands job the other week all the hardwood trees had been chopped into the brash matt.
  15. only ever had 1 customer tell me his and when it was swept the sweep said guess you dont use this chimney its clean this after burning a full seasons logs.
  16. Just heard there was an item on news another machine been burned out down in Moffat didnt see the news clip myself but have to wonder if it's the same people as burned ours can't be that many running round the country setting fires.
  17. you forgot kiln dried to what % also
  18. been doing 8.5" but this year gone back to 10" should have approx 450 bags of each. net sacks with bagging tray are slow and expensive to produce I do around 1500 only per season so not worth investing in equipment yet.
  19. isnt it the same as fuelwoods with different feet.
  20. 9 bags last week and 5 more to go out on Tuesday. been chilling down last 2 weeks here think they are wrong about el Nino being small this year.
  21. we had 2 might even have been 3yrs in last 5yrs where we saw -20 think the lowest on the farm thermometer was -22 & quite heavy snowfall 2010
  22. with no winter last year lets hope this one runs twice as long as normal
  23. of course I'm not pro regulation thats why I object to your don't give a **** attitude to the mess. I do take it serious as it's my job and I try to achieve some degree of professionalism and maybe your customers are happy with you leaving a mess but I know from those I've spoken to in my area there are alot who do not like it I want repeat business so try to keep the customer happy not just distracted.
  24. also a good simple solution, I get it in the ear from so many people who have had tipped loads straight onto their gravel and they cant get the crap out.
  25. if you have priced your logs so low you cant take the chance on a bag not being returned next time your pricing structure is wrong, you can get an easy 75% returns on bags put a disclosure on the invoice if not returned they will be charged and get paid or get 100% returns. there are countless options to drop bags off for not a lot of money from scaffolding style frames with engine hoists to boat winches on simple frames it doesnt need to be a hydraulic crane. it's about 6 months ago there was alot of discussion on regulation coming in and why nobody would be happy about it and its your attitude that will drive it forward.
