Do you not find the 220 grit a bit harsh?? My 1200 can remove a lot of material..... yet it could be differences in the stones though. Therapeutic isn't it??

can't beat a set of proper Japanese waterstones, then a pasted strop to polish the edge! all my knives are shaving sharp, if it won't shave, it's blunt. Good job by the way, looks like you got a good edge on it. Ian
  16. I personally think that good waterproof boots are very important, do not go cheap here! Ankle support is well worth it! Buy suitable clothing for the conditions that you may encounter, as in warm wind proof, waterproof jacket, waterproof trousers/over trousers. a comfortable day pack for day hikes if your going further afield or staying out, a bigger burgen will hold more gear other things to consider to carry may include, lighter cordage - dyneema cord survival blanket superglue compass mobile phone knife long life dried food/ ration pack basic first aid kit a couple of mess tins for boiling water if your camping out axe / hatchet water purification tablets mosquito / bug repellent dry bag solar usb charger small mirror look here for all your outdoor gear needs Google heinnie haynes website excellent company with fast deliver and really good guides and reviews enjoy mate Ian
  17. Japanese Waterstones are the best for sharpening axes and knives!! I have a set.... 800, 1200 and 6000 grit! With a little practice you let your axe and especially your knives razor/shaving sharp! Full set on eBay with non slip mat for £73 http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/Japanese-Ice-Bear-King-Waterstone-Set-800-1200-6000-Grit-Nagura-Non-Slip-Mat-/111590092307?nav=SEARCH
  18. make ice cubes with it and chill your favourite drinks..... or just drink it on its own! Sprig of mint and slice of cucumber..... chilled is very refreshing!
  19. I've looked at growning cherry blossom trees and think they flower at about 10 years!
  20. It was a brand new chain so rakers were at normal height, a real careful sharpen can get these chains cutting nice.... but it don't last long, any debris has a real bad effect on the teeth and there does seem to be a massive inconsistency in the metal for the teeth and rakers...... I'll stick with Oregon
