  1. dangerous!! that's just asking for a barbers chair!! how to kill your self in 3 easy cuts!!
  2. if it has a good lean and will defo go over, you can leave a massive hinge to help give you more control and security to stop it twisting off good luck and hope it goes well, look forward to the vid if you mate one!
  3. is the cavity at the base where your felling cut is going to be? I would use a slightly smaller gob, bore in from both sides leaving a good thick hinge, leave a holding strap at the back, stand back, cut and enjoy the fell. every ones opinion might be different with out seeing the tree, how rotten it is, with out seeing the colour of the chip as you gob it, wind on the day, as how the tree behaves all could change how your going to fell it at any stage. heavy leaners it's always best to leave a holding strap at back as you can't complete the back cut quick enough. clip it's ears too to stop it tearing too if your confident, get a good vid of it as we all like to see a good fell! ian
  4. it's a complete mystery!!!!! sprocket was relatively new, bar is old but can't see how it could be worn that much an still run chains ok? drive link count was correct also! it's got me completely baffled
  5. that's a new one on me! be interesting to see how long he lives for
  6. it was a brand new chain.... fresh out the box never run.
  7. I have no idea what saw that's for but on my 560xp .325 pitch .058 gauge 15" - 64 dl 18" - 72 dl 20" - 78 dl
  8. All I can think of that its the pre-stretch.... It was a brand new chain and it had the right amount of drive links, 72-18" The pitch was right, if it wasn't it wouldn't run. I had a drive link and cutter taken out..... So it looks like from now on I'll be buying chains with one less drive link...
  9. I've been using Stihl chain for a while now and have started to notice how long there getting! I know there supposed to come pre stretched! I put a new chain on a 18" bar and I have virtually no adjustment left! All of my Stihl chains are like this 15" 18" & 20" Even a 18" Oregon chain was like this, had to bin it with half the meat left on the cutters as it stretched and I can't adjust it any more! Any one else have this problem?? Annoying!!!!!!
  10. spalted beech anyone?? cut it down and see what the wood is like, turners might want it! ian
  11. all this drilling and chopping the old wooden shaft out must take ages... just turn the wedge on its side and give it a good firm hit with hammer, the wooden bit jumps straight out ready for new shaft.. Grey... I've put a couple of rings on my plastic shaft, I don't think it'll split but just incase. the shaft jumping out the head is annoying, not found a way to stop it happening yet ian
  12. title and author of that book would be a great help if you can find it ? ian

I still prefer my old fourtrak..... though I do really like them new modern defenders.
  15. husky arnt much better.... I love my 560xp but she pops clutch and av springs for fun, been in 4 times for oil pump and it's just gone again today! it's only a year old too!! but when it's on form I love it !!
  16. it simple.... just don't over tighten the caps..... besides if some one over tightens the flip caps your unable to use a combi spanner to open them... so in my eyes makes them worse! though the stihl 1/4 turn caps stopped the over tightening issue. ian
  17. yes husky still use same threads as it was the first thing I did when I got my new saws was change the caps. I changed both the T540XP & 560XP
  18. the husky flip caps aren't much better..... why change the simple screw cap when it just works and won't break? pointless really! ian
  19. interesting, keep us updated dude Ian
  20. why the F.... do things get over complicated?
