  1. i have a 3ph pto generator that runs almost everything but mainly an ex MOD kemppi ps3500 power source thats 350amp with up to 6mm welding rod. it will work tig (AD and DC) and mig 1.2mm wire, also compatible with a remote control so you can change your settings under the forwarder. i find it so handy just hook it up and away you go cant beat it for agri and forestry repairs i bought the units separately and you could get the whole set up for under 1500 second hand, new prob 3k for the gen and 3-4k for the welder
  2. not as bad as when i drove from inverness to slough to buy an amg mercedes for top price and when i got there it had no tires or wings
  3. hi steve, heres the old cattle shed, its hydro poles and 8"x3" timbers for the walls and 6"x2" for the roof. all the rails are bolted to the poles and the bottom rails are set in about 2inch to even out the taper stands about 14' high and the poles are set in 4' of concrete its not the prettiest but dose the job
  4. hi guys, what make of grease gun do you use? trying to be a little more organised so im fitting every machine with tool boxes, basic tools and a grease gun. but who makes a well made grease gun? i bought a draper this morning thinking whats the worst that can happen and as i put it together it fell apart:thumbdown: the older ones in the workshop have no writing on them so any help would be much appreciated
  5. what ever you do avoid the inverness collage bunch, you would be lucky to get an assessment in 5+ years
  6. well its off a farm, driving on grass vs running between building sites in town. a local contractor has their matbro on original tires with similar hours. there is machine hours and engine hours, if the engine is running high to work the boom or implement you can easily run up high hours without wearing the rest of the machine/ but it could be on its third set, no way to tell
  7. price sounds a little high. i got my new toy last week, a Mlt 741-120Isu:001_smile: its the 4 ton lift but every bit as nippy as a john deere 3400. it has a worn shaft from the engine to the trans, bit odd as the engine is mounted sideways. not a major job so apart from that very tight and very clean machine with 9000 hours and 50% tyres i think they are original too. she was £15k was the 627 private or trade?
  8. have you an extra 200k you dont need to see for a very long time?
  9. nfu are a funny bunch. they refused to insure my delivery trucks but when i was 21 i had insurance on a 2001 mazda b2500 (ford ranger) that cost 1200 a year with the nfu. but to get that i had to have a genuine reason (i was the cattle manager) and promise the boss of the local nfu branch that i would not do burnouts and drifting in tesco car park at stupid oclock in the morning this was with my fathers insurance and also allowed full forestry use. i also had two polices with full no claims since i was 17
  10. expensive too
  11. that has happened with a stove company up here but they havent managed to step up yet
  12. last two times we had gear taken didnt bother because we knew who it was, the police knew and couldnt do anything. a silver vectra spotting car and a white escort van doing the lifting
  13. i changed from ldv to iveco about two years ago now after 20 years of ldv and i regret selling them off. just replace with genuine parts and it will go on forever. oh and not nearly as expensive as iveco
  14. all the pictures are taken in the dark instead of a lovely sunny day. ldvs are really tough basic machines, the best place to get one is at an ex council auction, where there is 40 odd to choose from and they go for next to scrap value for a basically new truck...
  15. almost finished! fitted some windows this evening:001_smile:
  16. lol thats one way to double your bill! if you have two businesses you have to submit two or three returns
  17. very hard! they get stuck to muddy boots:laugh1:
  18. my accountant was £1200 last return after me preparing everything on spreadsheet that took about 5 days. i think their price reflects the amount of receipts you have, try get an account with a local petrol station so you have one print out for the whole year
  19. one year we let a well respected ag consultant have a field. they organised a crop of barley but did it by the book, put too much fert down, half dozen different sprays etc. when harvest came the weather was poor, the heavy crop lay flat and wet. so off to the grain dryer quite costly... our half of the harvest was cut a few days later perfect! the theory is good but you really need to have a life times experience before doing something like that. oh and there is already well established powerful competition
  20. have you had any experience with the gardener 180?
  21. Holder A55 igland 3000 double drum winch, blade and wheel weights. I am currently replacing oil seals/gaskets, will be done by the weekend. reconditioned rams, new hydraulics and all new filters, re-threaded the starter studs and the clutch is in new condition. no longer required
  22. i have one
  23. expect a breakdown very soon. a nailgun should be well serviced otherwise you put unnecessary strain on working parts- i learnt the hard way
  24. thanks for the posts! what would be the ideal mc%? i dont have much dry oak ready, so would need to cut more
