  1. I am wondering whether a lot of the beech seeds I have collected have been on the ground for over a year and that's why a lot of them aren't viable. Only a few were collected from capsules. How long do you leave to oaks in pots? I plan to plant them in the woods next winter, will they out grow the pots by then?
  2. Ah cheers for the info Goaty. I haven't been very organised this year and was hoping to start stratifying the seeds when they were harvested in Autumn, but things have gotten in the way. At least I have a few oaks potted up ready for the spring.
  3. I have been looking around on the net to see whether floating beech seeds are a good indication of infertile seeds. Do any of you have experience on this as google threw up all different answers? Got a bunch where all are floating, so hopefully this test is not true for beech.
  4. Need start splitting this lot. Not looking forward to it
  5. Looking good Ash Let us know when you are up and running with the kindling. We will buy a few bags off you have some available.
  6. Hey Steve, do you do netted logs as well? Could you PM me some prices delivered to Merthyr Tydfil.
  7. Do you only sell hardwood or do you do softwood as well? Logs have been going out the door at a steady rate. Loads of people wanting 50/50 mix which is always good. Softwood promoting seems to be working
  8. Ok Eggs, man gets £70 per day, anything wrong with that? Richie B, yer probably is slightly cheap but we dont make a habit of going out on splitting jobs every week. Your Thor drinks 8-12L a day??? I think the most we have burnt in a day is 5L max.
  9. Depends how well we've done that month. The splitter only goes out with me or the business partner and when we have no work for it on the yard.
  10. We charge £120 + delivery for a man and a 11 ton splitter for a full day. Under 4 hours gets charged half day anything over is a full days cost.
  11. This Hornbeam is getting everywhere. Out of control!!
  12. Dont have any idea whats good for milling and wants not, but are these oak and ash sticks worth getting milled, or should they just go on the firewood pile. Lengths are between 6ft to 7ft, diameters 40-60cm.
  13. Another 16 ton delivered to the yard and then spent a couple of hours on the digger and saw.
  14. Not everyone lives in a house with massive garden. Not everyone uses wood as the main source of heat. Perhaps people would prefer to have a garden for sitting in, not storing logs, hence why no one buys part seasoned wood and will buy seasoned wood at a good price from a good seller. Not to hard to understand.
  15. I thought I would leave that there so I could collapse on it afterwards
  16. Was out hiring the splitter this weekend. Managed to ring and split all the wood in just under 6 hours, plus wheelbarrowing it to the log store.
  17. For previous experience when we have had 8 wheelers delivering, when filled as high as you can go, we have managed 28-32 cube of cut logs. Tonnage was approximately 15-16ton.
  18. Or you could take it on a flatbed trailer to the job, and use the trailer as a log bench on the day.
  19. Never used this company, but had an email from them. Similar to Flamers. No1 Natural Fire lighters
  20. Strim it all, and ask some of the lovely guys here to drop a load of chip in your woods and then surround the base of the trees with chip within 0.5m radius. As others have said, strim it about 3 times a year and pull out any weeds in the chip. It will get easier the more it is strimmed.
  21. Perfect, thank you very much. I will contact them in the week
  22. Is there anyone in the UK that deals with spare parts for the Subaru SP170 engine. I was using the Riko A11 splitter today when the exhaust fell off. Ill try and attach some images. I have tried searching for suppliers but they all seem to be in the US.
  23. Morso Squirrel is a 5kw, we have had one for years and has been great. And there are quite a few refurbished ones on ebay that are a decent price.
  24. Why don't you sell your everything you get from the job, stack it up on the yard and then get an 8 wheeler to take it away when you have enough. Don't have to spend time splitting it, just need the equipment to load the lorry (or muscles ).
  25. Just asked a wood turner in Talybont if he is interested in this, will let you know what he says.
