  1. Dammit ive just bolted the top back on it to check for a spark before I read your above post for a pic! You sure the rear handle is late 60's? The black is only tape on the handle where someones taped it (which has been removed now btw!) and not a fitted rubber/plastic handle/sleeve like later models. Its the slim and slender type. Not sure on the front handle side of things tho it has 2 bolts on the top vertical. Its obviously non av etc. Anyway it has a nice strong spark! On to the carb next tho im fairly sure I will be needing to source a carb kit. Any ideas on which kit fits?
  2. Dampening my hopes here.... No number in there apart from 1106 on its own behing the vane mount and a very minor step maybe 1mm not like on the 070/090 which is much more obvious
  3. Going by what you said, the threaded hole in the casing by the muffler and lack of green tag im assuming its a super? Is there as easy way to tell now the pots off? Noted I shall swap the oil impulse line, ive not taken much notice of that side of things as yet. As yet all the screws have been good even tho they haven't been touched for a long time, would try and find slotted screws if I needed to to keep the right appearance.
  4. Yep all received fine and dandy mate thanks. Always handy to have that sort of thing.
  5. Ah cool. 1 of the studs came out with the nut anyway taking the pot off. If I have any difficulty removing the studs I will just put a nut on and dab it with the mig and unscrew it. Like you say eddy the cup looked worn but still has the for want of a better word the serrations altho worn. I did look at the pawls and they don't look in to bad a shape tho it wont hurt to give them a quick gentle tickle with a file which may help. Received the contra info Eddy thanks. Got it all cleaned up, pots off, has the 3 piece rebuildable big end, got the flywheel off and points where all in good nick etc. Got a gasket set. crank seals and new fuel line on order. I will probably bolt it back together and check for spark etc and restrip it to replace gaskets and seals but for now its a case of making sure that all screws etc can be undone and not seized up or heads mullered etc. Oilpumps a bit of a nightmare then?
  6. The cup looks a bit worn but maybe at quick play with the pawls could be the answer. It doesn't grab on a slow pull but does on a quicker pull. You mean the 4 threaded studs which hold the cylinder down? They need taking out and tapping deeper? or am I barking up the wrong tree... That seems to simple for being a pita as you describe so assuming ive understood you wrong.
  7. Yeah I saw the dated bar. Will check the muffler over tonight when I get home from work. S model crankcases sound good to me,is the 090 top end a straight bolt on or slight work required? I will have a better look over it tonight and maybe give it a good clean up. The first thing I want to do is find another starter casing and cup.
  8. Hopefully some pics of the newly acquired saw...
  9. First thing they go for on a sickly sheep is pecking out the eyeballs before they are even dead. They are very intelligent creatures and can even be taught to talk, however they cant count. Shoot a magpie, hide nearby and its family will actually mourn the body and return to visit it. Very territorial and when you here them shouting out the blue its normally due to an outsider encroaching onto there territory.
  10. Husqvarna 280 either cd or s I reckon on the non chainbrake. Whats does the serial tag say below the exhaust outlet on the body of the saw?
  11. Basically the bigger the ram the bigger the tonnage in simpleton terms. (as breezeblock say) Measure the chrome ram diameter and you can get a rough idea from there of what you need for a sensible cycle time.
  12. Wouldn't swivel fittings prevent it? Something similar to this? Straight Swivel BSPP Hyfitt Hydraulic Swivel Joints Hydraulic Adaptors | eBay
  13. The thing is if the where available side by side and weight wasn't marked on them common sense would dictate you would probably pick up both bags and feel for a weight difference wouldn't you? I certainly would but im tight as a badgers a*rse and check everything. Luckily the missus has stopped taking me food shopping as I keep looking at the little labels giving pence per 100 grams etc. Its amazing you can get a false sense of economy picking up the biggest bag or whatever feeling your getting it cheapest when you can be paying more 30% of the time over buying smaller.
  14. Personally I think you would be on a losing battle. Its 50% under powered but also the oil quantity means it would run hot and very inefficient as it wouldn't get chance to cool before being recirculated. Your better off building a self build powerpack using a secondhand gx390 and 18gpm pump or similar spec.
  15. 99 members and ive just ask to join to be 100 lol
  16. Personally I would say don't expect a massive difference in power especially if you have a full chisel chain and 14" bar on the ms250. You will also notice the weight difference if your slinging it around and using it much above waist height. I don't know what the weight difference is between the pair but the 346 is noticeably heavier. It amazes me they have the following that they do.
  17. Im the other way around. Self employed white van man starting at 4am and finish mid afternoon and then play with saws one way or another late afternoons and weekends. Actually find it enjoyable and reduces the stress levels.
  18. Part number for the dual muffler from stihl is 1122 140 0800 Think they retail around £40 mind.
  19. 3 cylinder engines where much better than the later 4 cylinder engines Jon
  20. Ive a bit of an old stihl fetish... Would of liked to have bought a new 460 but im sure I will get one at some stage for the collection, for that matter im still waiting to come across an 070 or 090. Being a tight wad I prefer to buy secondhand and rebuild them so atleast they are good runners and not being grade 1 im therefore happy to put them in wood and actually use them.
  21. Normally gets thrown in an old tyre and gets a foot on one end of it. If its bigger than that it goes thru the vertical tractor splitter.
  22. I don't think its just a subsidy thing. It was brought in mainly to protect nesting birds etc not just on subsidy land although most are claiming in one way or another.
  23. I don't like the 550/560 and don't hide it. They crop up all the time on here with issues and unhappy owners. Unfortunatly the stihls around that size aren't to my liking either. I think going in the 50-60cc range at the mo I think echo could be cracking up the sales soon.
  24. So weve all got rid of a saw we later regretted and wish we kept. Mine was a stihl 044 I sold 18 months ago which was a joy to use, reliable and troublefree and despite its age seemingly the most powerful standard 70cc ive ever used. I keep thinking about getting another or maybe an 036 to fully rebuild as a bit of a toy/keepsake to rekindle the past, however finding one at what I deem a sensible price seems an impossible task So what was yours?
  25. Cut the head off a wood screw and use as a joiner and then use some heatshrink over the top and/or maybe some self amalgamating tape. Its certainly a get you thru until you can sort it but it will last.
