  1. Well I’ve just about heard it all now..some thieving scum have dug up and stolen £5k worth of newly planted hedging saplings in Norfolk and not far from the same place has some homeowners woke up one morning to find there garden hedges dug up and removed. They have obviously been stolen by someone who is in a position to either resell them or has a job we’re they needed a vast amount of hedgeing to do...police are on the case but what use are they going to be and before anybody says maybe the Special Branch could sort it I have already thought of that.
  2. Looks like John merrick....the elephant man🤔🤔
  3. I have 4 and they are the best sharpening tool I have ever used....had them for a while now when only stihl supplied them but now there are other makes on the market now...be prepared to buy the stihl ones anywhere from £22 to £25 and £10 to £12 for other makes. The only down side is you have to buy a special length files round and flat which fits into the file holder but I just grind down normal files to the lengths I need and definitely 9/10 would be 10/10 if you didn’t have to piss about with buying the files to suit or reduce normal ones.
  4. I will be going for a 2013/14 Wildtrak and try and get one that’s done under 100k I don’t really want a showroom class one and the back will be coming off when converted so budget will be around 11k for the pick up and it’s going to be at least 4K to 6k for tipper conversion and at the end of the day it will be a work truck and will have a dog running around the cab every day, mud, fir, stains so it won’t be shiny for to long.
  5. Thank you all again for taking the time to reply and advise and give your thoughts on the issue and much appreciate all the feedback. i have had Rangers for the past 20yrs and will never have anything else so will be sticking with them and go for a 3.2 Wildtrak Auto and get a tipper conversion done,my old 2008 Wildtrak will do me for another year until I buy one and the time it will take to get it converted.
  6. Right so my quotation is...if I brought a 3.2 Ford Ranger Wildtrak Automatic and have a tipper conversion on it would it tow 750kg and a box full of would chip as good as a manual in any terrain?i need to get it right because once I commit there is no going back.🤔👍
  7. Thanks for reply and yes I heard a lot of autos have a manual feature...worth getting the right one as next truck I get will have to last me a good 5/6 years.👍
  8. Hi Gary thanks for the reply and Weaver is doing fine he is just very head strong and 120mph all day everyday.here he is 5 mins ago watching the wood pigeons in the garden, always ready to go...love him to bits.hope all good with you fella.🐶👍
  9. Get Wayne Clever from Heleloggers on it,he would be up there and section it down before you put the kettle on,have never seen a guy climb like him and use an 880 100ft up a tree.👍🌲
  10. I think it’s going to be a case of I need to have one to make up my own mind but i’am kinda moving more towards an automatic so I will start my search. Thanks for all reply’s and comments and as always really helpful as it’s good to get first hand knowledge from lads or lassies who have had experience of automatics good, bad or indifferent.
  11. When I first started on my own well over 30yrs ago apart from all the usual things you need to consider and plan for such as advertising, get a good accountant, what and how much equipment you need, how to set out your quotations, yard etc etc the one thing I aimed at was not to be know as someone who is cheap. There are 1,000,s of guys out there working there body’s to the max for silly money so you really need to set your stall out right from the start as you don’t want to become one of those busy fools. The point you need to work towards is say for instance if 2 people are talking about haveing some tree work done and you have done work for one of them the scenario you want is for the one to say yes I know a guy who did work for me but he’s not cheap but he’s really good and well worth the money. The other scenario you need to avoid is the one guy saying I know someone who is really cheap and his work is ok. Don,t get me wrong sometimes you need to take the crap cheap jobs to keep your head above water but plan them so you can do a few on the same day and make all the small cheap jobs cost effective. Working for yourself and being self employed is a lottery and it’s not like it used to be and you will have loads of crap times to a point we’re you want to jack it all in,but it can work if you want it enough. You could do subbing for a couple of days a week and do 3 for your own work until you get established and get things up and running. Its a long process but if you want it bad enough you will make it work,it would take forever to go over the pro’s and con’s for working for yourself, but it’s not for everyone especially if you are just starting out down that road and you have a young family to look after and consider.
  12. Thanks for the replies so far and of course I have started to do some ground work as far as how advantageous a automatic over a manual is and it seems once you have tryd and had an automatic especially a modern one it knicks spot off a manual especially if towing caravans, trailers etc so a 750kg wood chipper would be easy. So main reason is for towing a Chipper and the newer modal ford rangers have a 6 speed box and if i’am being honest it’s not the best ford have made and I think it will be such a pain changeing up and down I rather fancied a automatic...think I have made my mind up and moving more to a automatic.
  13. Well time has come to replace my trusty 2008 old Wildtrak Tipper which has just passed its MOT with just a number plate bulb needed but it’s done 0ver 200,000k so has a few advisories to deal with. Will be sticking With a Ranger Wildtrak 3.2 and looking at getting ether a 2013 to 15 model but thinking of going for an automatic which I have never had before so I need a little help for the advantages and disadvantages of a automatic over a manual in general and for towing so any help who be great..thank you.👍
  14. Law of physics is easier to pull then push....but I applaud you for your forward thinking and I wish you well in your venture....may be we will see you take on the Dragons...those big headed pompus knobh—ds Need taking down a peg or 3.
  15. Hope you don’t mind me saying but seems like a lot messing and time consuming effort to fell a small tree, pole Chainsaw spear cut top few limbs and then normal fell rest, trees on the ground cut as normal or just spear cut main trunk and if done properly it will just stand up and lean on surrounding trees..but that’s what I would do and not all would agree.
  16. I had the same trouble so I had a mate who's a plumber put one of those long new style bathroom radiators in the garage and I brought an big second hand wardrobe and just fitted it around the rad and cut some slats out for air circulation worked a treat till I got divorced and sold the house.👌😂
  17. It’s fine advice costs nothing unless your a solicitor or a shrink,as far as damage being caused to the ground once the trees have been removed this will be minimal as large % of the root system will remain in the ground and retain soil movement for many years with the possibility of the ground just settling over time.
  18. If they are making an offer that’s fine but it won’t solve the ongoing issues that you will have over the coming years so you are right not to accept there offer. You need to push for the removal of the trees as they are already admitteing the trees are causing damage to your garden by offering you a payment. just stick to your guns and insist on removal as once the trees have been removed you can deal with the root problems.
  19. Hi Nikki the problem you are haveing is a common day occurrence and it can look at first sight a complicated issue but in reality it’s quite simple. The biggest problem when a tree is causing a problem to anyone’s garden is to find out who owns the tree which you have already established the council owns the land there fore it’s the Councils tree and therefore it is they who are liable for the up keep and maintenance of the said Tree and or trees. So far you have done all the correct procedures such as getting a report and taking photographs of the roots and damage they are causing to your garden and you should make copy’s and send to the council or you can even get in touch with the local council tree officer or health and safety inspector as it’s been stated that the tree/tress are in poor health and in decay which comes within the health and safety aspect. The other thing is by law you as the landowner which the tree/trees are causing issues with are able to cut back any branches back to your boundary line and this also includes any roots which are causing problems but again only back to your boundary line. However cutting and removing roots is not really advisable as it may compromise the stability of the tree/trees and worse case scenario kill the tree. I would submit all the relevant information you have to the council and if you are willing say that you are prepared to pay for the removal of the offending tree/trees at your own cost and if the council have any sense they will agree as they would rather not take the risk of you putting in a claim for garden, structure or drainage damage, prevention would be cheaper then the cure. I hope this helps a little and it helps you move forward, you may get some more reply to you issue as there are some very knowledgeable guys on here who know far more then me about tree law. keep us informed as to how you get on. 20. Can’t make out if your being serious or just jokeing?
  21. Well i think it’s a fab gesture on your part John and nice to see that there is still good will to all men, woman & children in these dark days of self pitying as for social media I have and will never be on it,this is the closest I ever get and even then it can get nasty. But fair play to you John the tree looks brilliant and your a pillar of the community.??
  22. Hi john, tree looks fab buddy....do you give the tree and put it up for free or charge??
  23. If I told you that it is a ancient Ash Tree would you believe me?????well it is and just outside Bromyard in the middle of a field and ya your right...spooky?
  24. It’s fine to be accepted but don’t try to hard, just be yourself and try not to jump on every post you can just because it’s there, pick and choose your topics and ask all the relevant questions you need to and just ignore the k—bhead comments other wise it just gets nasty...you’ll be fine ??
