  1. Milled some spalted holly years ago. Beautiful wood. Though goes soft very quickly.
  2. Pinch marks of a chain are of no importance amd a mute point 99.99% of all slabs will be flattened one way another, by router sled, planer or hand plane. Slight dip in the end of the board is also a mute point in my view. All boards will be cut and finished to the requirements of the purchaser. Loosing an inch or two again is insignificant in my view.
  3. Thanks, I don't know if I'd trust the over hang to not being broken off. I'll have a look at there requirements.
  4. I'll need ro see how delivery will work out due to the fact they are over pallet size... Smallest on average is 1400x1600 Larger ones are 1400 x 1900 or there abouts
  5. 2 possibly 3 sold, which includes the darker one pictured. Awaiting on confirmation as to which ones. Majority cut at 70mm, 2 x60. One of the 60mm ones is a bit wonky as it just wouldn't cut true in places. 7 in total
  6. There was only a small part that I did, I had it to hand so that was what I used. Its right inside a crack, that van be seen in the first picture right down the bottom
  7. Depending upon how you look at it. I threw it in the greenhouse and forgot about it, 15 minutes with the router and 20 sanding on a wet afternoon. Easy bit of money
  8. A round that I flattened with my router sled, been cooking in the wife's greenhouse all summer and is nice and dry! 540 x 370 x 50 Sanded to 120 and wet sanded at 120. Three coats of mineral oil, and some small areas stabilised with CA glue. Supplied with soft rubber feet. Hopefully this one is sold already.
  9. Nope, sanded to 80 grit only and finished with screwfix own brand clear decking oil.
  10. The last of my simple benches i made for around the fire pit. Again wrc and legs provided from same source as the others. Using my router sled I cut out 3" grooves across the outer edge of the slab for each leg identically.
  11. Wasn't that big Oak log was shared on the fb arbtalk page? The general consensus from the pictures provided was it looked rotten as hell, and that picture of you stood in front of the end seems to confirm that?
  12. Again, my apologies for another picture, but managed to mill the last 820mm wrc this morning and made use of last couple of boards from a smaller tree. So now have a set of wrc dining benches and table.
  13. Not milling as such, but made use of some of the wrc, new outside table ive been hassled about for a while and part one of two benches for it. The table legs are from Ebay, sufficient for the task just about but not as sturdy as I was hoping / expecting 🤷‍♂️ Bench stands where expensive, does anybody have any other sources of comparable options?
  14. Nothing much new to report on the milling front, got stuck in to a 820 wide WRC for some external tables. One will be for home, the long one on the back of the vehicle was for a client and one other sold of the trio.

    Elm

While back I enquired about some Elm logs. Managed to get some delivered unexpectedly today, around 14 tons. Sizes base average 26" and significantly wider in the crotch. Pleased with the haul, hope some come up nice. Not something I see very often! And be able to pick the ones I wanted 😊 Incase any one is wondering, that ring is 79 x 65" 🤣
  16. Is that biomass prices? I have no idea what they are as I am not involved with that side of things on the trees.
  17. Redwood, as in Sequoia. Ideally looking at a value of a 3m x 48" log hopefully with little taper as it would be a more central section at that size.
  18. Thank you What about Redwood price hoppus? I want to buy a chunk possibly
  19. What are redwood logs going for currently hoppus price? Wanting to buy some and don't know what they are worth?
  20. And choose the best quality of logs for such items. Plantation grown timber that has equal stress throughout is likelybto be less prone to problem. If the oak or any tree has grown on the side of the wind arrives such as a south westerly hedge row than you will get more stress and tension as the tree has grown to accommodate it
  21. Thank you gentlemen, that gives me something to work on. I recently had a very small piece i managed to aquire, but this may be a lot more and potentially bigger. Not fantastic quality but Elm none the less, something I rarely see.
  22. Ive been offered some Elm, and as a fair man i want to pay fair money but not be fingered by the seller! What, where or how are the going rates for timber calculated, is there an industry pricing model or is it a case of paying what you feel is mutually acceptable? This is a commercial seller and obviously they know more than I, but I'd like to know what they are asking is fair. What is the going rate for pippy/ burr Oak, Elm, spalted Beech etc ? Ash seems to be down for fire wood prices and how many bags a bloke can get out of the stem.... which leaves majority of it unobtainable in price! Any advice on hoppus foot prices or a link would be fantastic. A few recent boards off the mill 900 wide Yew, and some over size WRC Tia
