  1. Never burnt any, but milled some recently
  2. This morning efforts, my largest log 7’ by 49” x 70mm. not as spectacular as I was hoping but worthy stock for. Kiln drying in the future. Not the easiest of days to take pictures due to the bright sunshine ☀️
  3. Was hoping to do this log, speed up helge process
  4. New book just delivered, haven’t read it yet but looks good on the reviews. There is another book that doesn’t have the how to section and was a bit more expensive if I recall. anyone done anything to speed up the process?
  5. So today I yet again checked on the kiln, was running at 109*f or 42*c. humidity was down to 49.1-% and since Saturday I’ve extracted 9ltrs of water. this is a full 10* over the specified working temp of 32*c the dehumidifier is meant to be operational, so decided to vent the kiln by opening the door to remove some excess heat as it was clear the extractor fan wasn’t clearing as needed. Secondly I will be adding another venting fan for drawing in fresh air in the opposite corner to that of the extraction fan.
  6. No good for nothing, every sawyer knows to avoid it like the plague…. guess you didn’t get the memo 😂
  7. It will take what I want volume wise. All well and good going big but you need to feed it and sell it. Bigger unit heat. Dehumidifier etc. and bigger bucks. it is designed around what I want to mill which is 8ft and up to 4ft wide. This may just be the beginning of it works and may in the future upgrade to a shipping container and Nyle system. I need to add up my figures but all in I am around £1400. this first load covers that and more.
  8. First timber in this morning. burr sweet chestnut 7’x4’ x2”
  9. Air flow is similar to a cars fan, but at 12v somewhat awkward to run off of the mains. If I ever found myself out in the woods than they may be an option with some leisure batteries
  10. I will also add that my depth gauges are flattened right down low to the tie straps. get more chip off the chain that way
  11. Unless you are running exceptionally long bars there is little merit to the hyper skip chain. I run a full comp on the 54” without issue and don’t see the need for a skip chain of any variety under that length
  12. Good as gold

    Old stihl

Gave the old girl a run out today on a big 49” Silver Maple. 137cc of ignorance, pulled like a train 💪
  14. Has everyone given up milling wood? very quiet in here of late 💁‍♂️ felled this big 49” silver Maple this morning, looking forward to getting it back to the yard. anyone with experience of this timber? American boys seem to love it !
  15. Yes it was harder going than anticipated, so much tension as you can see from that picture was a right pain in the arse. I’ll be strapping these bad boys on Saturday and getting them painted
  16. Been felled about 2 years, sat in my yard.
  17. Spalted Burr Horse Chestnut 🌰 off the mill today. caused me pain all day. has anyone ever seen such timber deflection after a cut has finished?
  18. Three coats of Danish oil, the latter picture is correct colour. the fist post was taken well after sundown which is why it has a cold colour cast to the pictures
  19. Elm platter that is nearing completion. 24x10x2”
  20. Buy better logs! never needed to do any of that😂
  21. Get on fb on the arbtalk page and put a request out, loads of stuff gets offered. also there is a page for firewood and processing that has a lot of stuff on for offer.
  22. What you got?
  23. Looks like it could be canker on Spanish red horse chestnut.
