  1. looking for possibly some heavily burred elm, or better still all burr with superb coloration if possible ideal planks would be up to around 30-35" x 2.5 x 8" deep. must be dry, ready to work with a MC of 12% or lower or able to be kilned to 10% anyone have anything, pictures would be gr8 and of course the sort of money you would be looking for. TIA simon
  2. nice Beech, but that Oak is rotten as a pear!! white rot in the center there. it will dry out and disintegrate in front of your very eyes. soft and nasty too!
  3. white pop. just reduced a big`n!!
  4. yes it does work. did some last year of some bigish oak burrs. search my posts and you will find a link and possibly some pictures, though cant remember if i posted any:001_smile:
  5. my choice is hawthorn. after all in days gone by they used it for high lift wedges
  6. looks gr8. i am no expert, but if its indoors and dry (workshop) than i would not let the elements take there toll and take up moisture only to take it back indoors again?
  7. easier solution, rather than waiting for your wood to dry, boil them.
  8. lovely wood, the knots are very distinctive. Looking at the milling, i am guessing the bar and mill may be a tad over engineered for that size tree ;-)
  9. I have seen many stunning bowls turned from the branch sections. Like big orange eyes in the wood. A turners dream i beleive...
  10. i knew he should of bought more 2" 4ft apple boards from me!!
  11. My 441 normally sports 25" But at moment shes on 16"...... I also run the 064 on 16" too
  12. I presume your yard is under tight defra control then if you have these beetles "currently in stock"
  13. Could help with milling in to planks if needed.
  14. Thats more of a mans 090 size tree, not for boys with there 088's
  15. Dont forget a 36 bar will giv around 28 final cut. Yes shud b ok. I use my old 064 with a 36bar. But best kept sharp
  16. Stihl big bar mount has been the same since the contra 1106. Does the 088 run a different mount, iam not so sure.....
  17. And sold to the highest bidder!!!!
  18. Can anyone point me in the direction of finding one, or can anyone make one for me. Origonal box just broke so thought an upgrade wud b a good idea! Thankz
  19. Good there holding value! And mine is in slightly better nik too
  20. Posts like this really annoy me. Why the glandestine "cant say bollox" Is this not an open forum to share and learn
  21. If you fancy one there is one on ebay at the moment. stihl 090av chainsaw rare collectable running no reserve | eBay
  22. wheres the pictures then!!!
  23. sounds bout right, but would question soil price? is that with concrete in it and such you wouldnt buy 2t for that down here. i would also look at a better substrate type. here we can get double compost, a blend of reused garden material and arb wast mixed with sand. a very good mixture for growing veg in and have used it extensively for turf laying.
  24. I will just say that reading the posts that some of you have answered a little harsh in my view given the fact that john has yet to show it in use. At that point a fairer assesment can be made of the saw. Personally i have no experience of milling with a mizer so cannot comment on thus as such but given its marketing for small individuals who perhaps own woodland and does not need 30k of mizer this may well suit them. I wish John good luck. Simon
