  1. the d22 yd25 did the engine job but know to work on the navaras engine is a engine out job. on the d22 the front axle has to be moved out of the way. so looks as if the d40 is easier:biggrin: but heard of them loosing the timing chains ao the d40 is as good as the d22.
  2. if you are laying hedge it should be able to look after it self a number of shoots will be protected by the other stems. and what bunnie wants to stick its head in a hawthorne hedge soon get stabbed.
  3. i saw a load of cut oak and birch roadside the other day spoke to guy hauling it out if i could buy some. tillhill had the contract. spoke to the local guy to see how much it would be £53 per tonne delivered worked out 24 tonne of wood would cost me £1400 a do not have 1400 pounds but to make a profit have to be selling it for a lot more than i do. now realize that even the regulars are going to have to pay a lot more for there wood. not worth doing it if not prepared to pay a going rate
  4. looks a good machine. how much is it
  5. i say 60.90mtrs or 200ft
  6. good choice worthy winner and second and third place and thanks for putting comp on roll on next year need to get my brownie out to get some good shots.
  7. grand designs had a chap who built a cracking house from hestion straw bales. rendered outside watle and daub on the inside straw bales are cheap compared to bricks and morter. used a chainsaw to cut out windows and doors.
  8. done thanks for link
  9. good to see the photos of geese have to get some of my killer ones carlsberg and stella are two of them but do they nip i get them to do it more when i have my chainsaw trousers on as do not feel them nipping but getting wise starting to go for back of legs. but makes any one wary of coming in as they do draw blood and make a racket thats the best bit know someones around:thumbup:
  10. i would get geotex membrane save hassel of a rotavator. it comes in rolls lay it one end peg down with tent pegs roll it out pegging as you go. when done stanly knife make a cross trenching shovel dig a spit and put wip in and push spit back. geotex will stop majority of weeds coming back. rotavate all it will do is make it easy to get wips in but next year weeds will be back. you do not have a area you are from if nr Oxford murry Mc Cleen abingdon does the plants and does the machine to dig and put them in for hire.
  11. i have just got some GG at2 for my navara d22 from Micledever tyres who run hiflex etc £400 fitted inc vat
  12. got GG at2 for my nissan for £400 fitted and including vat
  13. son in law has just split a load up with just a normal axe its hard but it does split. re sharp blunt the axe he uses is so blunt but its splits well have a grundfos maul but its lost in the woodpile but that splits wood well. wish we could get more elm is the best firewood for miles. i try and ration how much i sell but mix it with other wood. if its all elm its sold for a lot more. got to be worth 100 for a pick up load.
  14. well i used normal in my sthil ms 170 to see if it ran any different it did it plays up job to start so back to aspen first pull ticked over ran fine
  15. did you get reg let countrywatch know will be emailed out for others to watch out
  16. have you spoken to countrywatch team if not let them know with ref number the normal bill just given out crime numbers and thats it. its getting beyond just once a month every day now some poor sod has all his or hers gear nicked and going into the thousands. in the last week i have heard of several in hampshire had gear nicked or tried to but got spooked. this is not a radom thief going out to get some pin money. they must be eyballing crews to see what you have follow you see where you go at night then plan to come back to nick it heard of a container drilled holes in back camera in checked if anything worth having plasma cut back off and off with gear. poor sod opened container to be greeted with daylight and no kit. how much has been stolen in the uk so far this year. millions.
  17. going to try tommorow see how it goes but like aspen as when laying hedges the exaust is pointing at stem so get fumes coming back with aspen do not
  18. looked on nfed but website not built have sent a mail to them asking for details soon as i have some let you know
  19. so local police said being shipped abroad to eastern bloc selling for good money and no qestions where it came from
  20. sthil ms 170 use it for hedgelaying ideal for doing small stuff so for coppicing be ok if its a bit big have the husky
  21. once hazel has gone a wood colour then the dear do not like eating it its when its at the little green stage year 1 to 2 they like to munch. i have allways but brash over stools and rst of brash in piles for dormice to hibernate. late father in law did this and thats how i learned how to do it. as for 7 year cycle for hazel thats is ideal for using it for doing most coppice things. like some bigger stuff for stakes. so leave some to grow bigger
  22. what is it with the kat making them run hotter last time i saw flames like this was when i saw a new zealand air force pilot do his trick would flood fuel into engine then fire up after burner with these saws do i need a kettle boil kettle on exaust:biggrin:
  23. thank you dan then needs to contact the local group if that does not bring nay results up then the natinal federation of coppice workers will let you know of a group nearby. they get people asking for there woods to be coppiced had 3 now come through if i was interested in working them
  24. most of the charcoal makers round these parts use hazel as it is the main wood but most wood should work has to be seasond first or it just burns off the moisture so takes longer to make charcoal. seen your retorts most of the lads i saw at last coppicing group said that the retort makes more for less work than a ring re size only need to split larger bits but then you would use that for logs
  25. area please would help may be able to help if in hampshire or google local coppice group and ask if a coppicer would like some help in return for learning the trade if you want wood then look for hazel woods find owner And ask do not be suprised if asked to leave or woods for sale but not cheap option be good if you can find one to rent but a good coppice wood is hard to find and if you do look at £70 plus per acre to rent. need a neglected wood that needs help may then get it for nowt in return for working it. but coppice group is what you need to find
