  1. Welcome to the forum Ross. I have been climbing a little over a year now and it's been a steep learning curve but im tackling some large jobs now, a little steadier than others would but I get them done. Some advice I would give is to take your time, don't feel pressured or pressure your self into doing anything your uncomfortable with. I would take time to learn to climb with a silky and on recreational climbs before diving in with a chainsaw, good work position is key and I think the best advice I can give you is learnt to climb the tree and not your rope (obviously make sure you tend your slack), it's much easier and also try and learn to balance as best as you can. Work positioning is much easier if you have good balance, I still use my side strop all the time when work positioning but the majority of the time it is slightly slack and there as a fail safe. Hope this helps and makes sense
  2. Still loving the zz but I am noticing my line is fluffing up, anyone else experiencing this or any excessive ware?
  3. Yes Mike I am, no point working harder than you have too . I had considered the stein arb trolley but just cant justify the price when I can make something similar for probably a quater of the cost
  4. Neither, sodding auto correct, was supposed to say general haha and chip is staying on site so the gardener can use it on the beds etc. Thinking about it now, I may just have to make up an arb trolley type trailer to hitch up to the chipper for future jobs
  5. So a bit of connie bashing and some genetal pruning is on the cards for today with roughly a 100 yard drag so instead of working hard I thought id work smart and use the jo beau m500 to do all the hard bit. It has certainly saved a lot of time and effort
  6. Thats some fairly drastic wear! Hope this doesnt happen to my rope 😞
  7. I use a finger sander or a filing sander what ever you wish to call it, its basically a 10mm wide belt sander
  8. Used mine properly or the first time today on a large oak reduction so lots of moving about. I'd like to retract what I said about it being jerky on Yale imori, it was just user error. Now I'm used to it, it's such a smooth device and self tends beautifully with sufficient rope weight below. Awesome piece of kit is my view on the zz and I cannot wait to have another big climb Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  9. Well I have just spoke to the other guy that quoted it and it seems I was on the money. I was £30 cheaper but the other guy has done a lot of work for the client in the past so I'm guessing that's the reason he went with them and not me. Relieving to know I did well with my calculations Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  10. I priced a job over the weekend and I came in with what I believe to be a very competitive quote and I've had an email to say on this occasion they were going to be using someone else. Would it be rude to ask his reason for choosing someone else? Fairly new to pricing my own work but have done a lot of subbing and seen what others charge. I worked out my costs and came to a price but I'm wondering if it was too much or seemed too cheap. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  11. I would think the warranty is on the saw but you'll need the original purchase receipt to get a dealer to do any work to it Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  12. I was just curious as to how many if you have personal health insurance and also what sort of price it is, have been looking this morning but it seems a bit of a minefield, not sure where's best to start lookin. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  13. I'm no oldie my self but I can agree that the majority of the younger generation are useless, I know of only one that's any good and he's a good mate of mine, he 20 now and got a degree in computer programming so he's a bit geeky and not overly strong but he never fails to impress me when he's out working with me! He just gets on and gets stuff done and I have not once heard him complain about anything. The problem I believe is the lack of common sense these days, people just can't think for themselves, they need spoon feeding like they are all through school, college and uni. 14. Very nice, wish I had a little more time and timber to carve. Don't let plogs see that big but in the background, he'll want to log it up...I hear he likes nice big buts haha. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  15. Great video, he certainly has some skill! His hands must be made of asbestos, he's certainly not afraid to grab the timber while it's in the lathe. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  16. Used mine for the first time today on imori and it was a little jerky to say the least, this could be due to me knot being used to it but it did seem like as soon as I touché the little lever the top two friction links just dropped and it was then only holding on two, thought the friction would have been a little more spread out but I'm sure I'll get use to it Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  17. Well I'm def moving to aviva in a week or two, I'm 25 and just had a quote of 266 for my 06 rodeo with protected no claims Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  18. Where did you get your chip from and does it make much of a difference to power and econemy? Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  19. I somehow managed to get a reply from echo uk on the subject several months ago and they said late February early march, still holding out for it cause like you, I've heard nothing but good about it Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  20. That's the one treespotter. Looks a nice saw. After owning and using the little echo top handle for a while now I am waiting up get a larger top handle until this one is released Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  21. Echo are due to release a new top handle early this year I believe. I would up load a pick but it's not letting me for some reason Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  22. That's excellent! Really like it, I want to do some more carving but sadly don't have the seasoned timber to do it with as of yet, got some elm, sequoia and walnut seasoning though Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  23. Hey guys I'm currently climbing on Yale imori and find it incredible difficult on a long haul back up the tree due to what I would class as a lot of stretch. The only other rope I have ever use was xtc on a rec climb where the anchor was roughly the same hight as mine and there was a lot less stretch. Does anyone else that climbs on imore think there's a lot of stretch? It's got to the point where I'm thinking of changing rope because of it Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  24. I paid 450 for mine with 18" b and c at the apf, if you can wait then I'd get one there Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  25. The best advice I could give is watch some vids on YouTube then get out and give it a go. Take your time an enjoy it, there no rush, having some headphones in with a bit of music helps me Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
