  1. That's got some serious looking leaf springs on the back! what's the load capacity? Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  2. My point exactly. I'm almost certain that plastics are more durable and less likely to break due to flexing and absorbing shock better. My only gripe with echo is that they still use only single mount chain break handles on some models making them feel a little plasticky/tacky but looking at the 500,600 and the soon to be released 360t that's on the change and I shall certainly be getting the 360t upon its release. 3. How about this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Logster-ATV-Timber-Trailer-All-new-Design-New-features-/221298539788?pt=UK_BOI_FarmingEquipment_RL&hash=item33866bbd0c Looks just the job for the money. If you intend to build one, personally I would use rocker axles like on this one Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  4. I'm not sure why that makes much difference, if it was cast surely it would be more brittle? Plastic's these days can be rather strong and on top of that they have flex making them more durable. This is how I see it anyway, if you compare a hammer blow to plastic and cast the both would likely crack but the plastic is more likely to absorb the force and spring back meaning no need to replace the casing. Back to the thread, I have been looking at both makita an echo and have a saw from each on my list . I just can't see for all the extra money on other makes you actually get that much of a better saw Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  5. Hey Bret, welcome to the forum. I was in a similar situation to you around this time last year apart from I was working for a fencing contractor and wanted a change. I think initially the best advice I can give is to find a group recreational climbing in your area and tag along and have a go at climbing to see how you get on. If you get on well then get on and book to get tickets done and go from there. I did pretty much the above and at present I have a couple I tree firms I work for regularly which is great for experience and personally I would strongly advise this as I didn't do it initially and found my self way out of my depth on a couple of my own jobs. I now also have a steady 3ish days a week of my own work coming in and sub on the days I have free. Hope all of the above helps and wish you the best of luck Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  6. I'm no expert as I haven't really been in the game long but I find my jo beau invaluable, especially when I compare it to subbing work where they only have a large machine and you have to drag. On so many jobs for other companies all I have been able to think is that we could do with my chipper on the job. If you can afford too I would keep it, just think of what money it can earn you in the long run vs what you will get if you sell it Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  7. Love it, had this idea but put it on hold due to having no timber ready to carve Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  8. I see no problem with squeezing a lot of power out of a small engine if the engine is up to it. I have an s3 which is only a 1.8l turbo and that's at 210bhp as standard, a simple remap would increase it to around 250-260 and with a couple of other mods it could be at 340-360 and of all the people I have heard of doing this, none have had a problem apart from having to upgrade the clutch to cope with the extra power. It all depends on if the engine is capable Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  9. Makita dcs7901? I don't own one but I hear they are a great saw and there less cost than the stihl/husqy equivalent Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  10. I message echo uk yesterday re. the availability of the 355t in the uk and they confirmed that it was un available due to not having the correct ratings how ever they have informed me of the release of the new cs360tes early next year and also sent me a link to the saw online and it is very much the same as the 355t as I'm sure you will see in the link below. Gonna hold out for this I think http://www.yamabiko-corp.co.jp/echo-global/?p=2440 Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  11. Well I've stretched my budget to get what I want but in in 2 minds weather to get a hilux extra cab or writhed I get this (that's if it's still for sale when I have all the money together) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/151127322076?redirect=mobile Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  12. I realise that how ever my mk4 stood 5 years of some of the worst terrain that I could throw at it on exmoor day in day out and just kept trucking on, had things like ujs and diff seals go a bit due to driving over commons and getting the prop shafts wound up with rushes and weeds but apart from that it was great Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  13. I have considered the ranger, for the money they look really good but I don't know what there like for reliability, I had a hilux some years ago and gave it a seriously hard time farming on exmoor and it never missed a beat hence why there my first choice it they are rare and expensive and rare. Think I've found 5 on ebay but all seem to be quite a long way away Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  14. Haha I spotted those two a while ago, watched several vids and they both look very good saws. I personally think it's stupid not releasing their best everywhere, their shooting them selfs in the foot if you ask me Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  15. Sweet, let me know how it goes and I may have to find out where you get it from and order one my self, if the cs260t is anything to go by it'll be a cracking saw! Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  16. I'm after a hilux too, would have been interested in yours Chris but have decided on an extra cab, trouble is...rocking horse poo is almost easier to find than one of these haha, just a waiting game for me I guess Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  17. Only if it's available though haha, hope it is if not I may be tempted to import one for my self haha. I cannot understand why it's not on general sale over here, recon they would sell really well! Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  18. I believe the 8274 isn't as strong as some others in respect of how much it can pull but from what I hear they are very fast and easily modded to cope with what the user wants but as stated above, for business use I don't think it would work as well as other suggested winches. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  19. Cheers mark and have just had a look at the cs360t and I'd rather the 355 I think, the 360 looks near identical to the current cs350 pictured above Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  20. In my experience there are many winches as good as the 8274 for a lot less, I believe the reason the 8274 is so popular is the speed at which it can pull you out and the ability to mod and improve using giggle pin components which would make a considerable difference during certain off road comps, for general use I would consider a super winch or one I hear a lot of good about is the Tds goldfish by good winch? Don't quote me on the name but it's very similar to that, a quick google search should find it Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  21. This is the 350tes which I know is available in this country And this is the 355t which I'm not sure is available The 355t to me looks much better designed and more ergonomic, nice looking topper really Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  22. I didn't think the 355t was available in the uk? If it is where can I get it from? Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  23. Speak to rob d at chainsaw bars, think he's now stocking 1/4pitch sprockets for echo's, shall be ordering one for mine soon Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  24. In my opinion a hilux/ranger/l200 extra cab would legally hold more weight than a transit/iveco/lr because the size of load space is smaller meaning less weight of materials used to make up the tipping chip box. Could be wrong but this is just how I would look at it Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  25. So over the last 4 nights, 3 dwellings In my town (market Rasen, lincolnshire) have had forced entry to out buildings and things stolen. As far as I can gather, so far there has been 3 chainsaws, a normal and long reach hedge trimmers and a petrol law mower, all of which were stihl, there was also a honda generator stolen. My sheds are alarmed and we have 2 very active dogs but will be being extra vigilant I think. Just a heads up to anyone locally that thieves are operating and appear to be targeting specific sites, also can people keep their eyes/ears pealed about potentially dodgy/stolen items for sale in the lincoln/Louth/Gainsborough/market Rasen/Grimsby etc area.
