  1. First thing I thought, liking that chipper 😉👍
  2. No jammy, that's before tax mate, in my experience, around my area, the wages aren't great for the employed guys...but again I'm just speaking from my own experiences bud
  3. Totally agree with you mate, hence why the no sick pay as a sub works for me
  4. Yea see I'm familiar with this bud, if your off more than 4 days and can provide a doctors note you get ssp, no good for me as Iv probably had only a hand full of sick days in the last 5 years...
  5. Company didn't offer it, most employers iv had never payed sick pay and if you was off gave you the option to use your holidays to cover your pay
  6. I was driving 45 minutes to work (employed) every day and using £70 of fuel a week, I didnt get sick pay, and had to book holidays moths in advance and even they had to be approved..at the moment I'm driving 15 minutes to work, using less fuel, of which I can claim a percentage back, earning more money, working less hours and can have days off when I choose, for me the subby route is working out..but then I haven't had great experience being employed... I'm not trying to down play employers or business owners just going on my experience
  7. How did that go so wrong??? 😮
  8. Been in a mewp* Suppose I should say edbol isn't a bad climber either 😉 but then he did have me on the ground directing him haha 👍
  9. Haha cheers ed!! Been a mewp all day and seem to be pretty good at that too 😉😄
  10. Iv just gone self employed (subby) and have gone in at £80 for ground or £100 if required to climb...which I'm happy with as it's a far cry more than being on £70pd as a lead climber on the books...around Warwickshire and the midlands as a sub climber you can earn between £90-150 a day
  11. Excuse the punctuation my iPhone has a mind of it's own!
  12. Hi mate, it's been reading all this and wanted to say, now this is not to put you down at all, but... There is so much work out there, you just have to find it, and I don't mean flicking through the paper, I mean going into places asking to see the boss and handing them your cv...if you can't do this, for what ever reason or excuse, then you will never make it on your own in business, because this is exactly what you have to do to find work..work won't just come to you because you own a lawn mower or hedge cutter. Again I don't mean this to sound harsh. Also be realistic with where you want to go...I myself have just gone self employed as a climber, managed to find a good guy to contract to but my end goal is to own my own small business, you need to set yourself a time line this will help with buying kit ect (once your earning money) so for my by the end of the month I want to have saved enough to buy my own top handle saw, then looking further down the line, by November I want to have my own truck ect ect...hope this is making sense lol.. Granted I'm in a better position than you buy our goals are the same buddy, just need to be realistic about everything...hope this motivated you to go out tomorrow and find yourself some work All the best
  13. Totally agree...end of the day you are the climber, if your not happy and can justify yourself then you get down and find a way to resolve the problem, I take my hat off to you for sticking to your guns, there's far to many people in the industry that take risks to please others..
  14. Haha I do this too, if I start getting a bit unsettled by something I start singing or whistling, just settles my mind and helps me concentrate. On a serious note, don't rush things...I'm not the fastest climber in the world, but always get down out the tree in one piece..

    Marlow rope

Sweet cheers guys, all sounds good and fr jones do it for a great price! I'm on xtc at the moment, don't find it too bad, only complaint is it gets a bit springy after a wile...but yea positive reviews thanks! Looking at the zig zag but would be nice to see what it can do on the HC, like I said on a bit of a budget so can't justify the money for zig zag sj ect just now

    Marlow rope

Evening all!! So made the decision to go self employed and contract myself out, need to get myself some of my own kit together, and on a bit of a budget, they guy I'm going to work for is happy for me to work the ground untill I get my kit sorted, so first thing on the list is rope! Iv seen the Marlowe aeris 11mm on jones, good price for 35meter and not much more for 45...any one using this rope at the moment and how does it perform, and what set up you using as I'm looking at getting a HC set up cheers all

    ladders or not

Where I can I always use ladders to access the tree, like many why waste energy body thrusting ect for the first 25ft when you can climb a ladder...we have a new team leader at my place, who has called me and the other climber lazy for using them to access a tree.... He loves his throw line far far too much, funny bit is, he will spend 15 minutes trying to get a throw line in...as soon as he has got your rope in, I get the groundie to put a ladder up anyways and it really annoys him! Make me giggle...he doesn't climb by the way..
  18. Agreed! 👍 what are they like practicality wise? If I was going to buy a truck I would be lookin at a landrover tipper
  19. This morning willow reduction The a nice climb in the afternoon, both were a pain to get a nice shape but happy enough with the result sand both clients were very happy
  20. Chestnut reduction this morning In the sun..didn't manage to get a before picture, but it was down for a third of the canopy to be reduced, which I thought was a bit heavy, so went a bit lighter on it and was happy with the way it turned out
  21. Rather large failed oak, just missed the power lines and pole... Luckily we only had to log it up and stack the brash otherwise it could of turned into a really long day dragging across a muddy field, nice to see the sun out today though 👍
  22. There some really good feed back and appreciated guys, I have two pairs of type C's so think I might give the type A's a go and see of there is a great difference In terms of comfort ect when climbing...
