Cask loses approx 1% ABV and 2% volume per year, does vary though. Barrels are emptied 100%, the liquid left in scrap barrels is whisky that's been absorbed by the wood and then leaches back out over time, also water which gets into empty barrels lying around If ABV drops below 40% in cask then that's a major cockup but can be brought up back up by marrying in younger cask (higher ABV) when they bottle it. Edit: these days most distilleries fill at something like 64%, they fill at same ABV to make it easier for trading casks for blending

Lot of money for bottle of booze. Not sure what release that one is but tried 50yo glenfiddich about ten years ago, was good.

Typical snp left wing control freakery It's says in bbc report that the police welcomed this, the report I read a while ago said the police weren't in favour as they didn't have resources to police it, also that they have enough options already to deal,with air gun crime.

Scaffolding to replace one slate on a two storey house - totally uneconomic. So some type of common sense has to be applied. Company owner/self employed person does it so not asking an employee? Would be interesting to see the official guidelines on this one

Well the guy who claims he can tell the difference also says he "works too hard and fast to get cold hands"!!! Both statements might true for all I know, I'm a fan of making what can be an uncomfortable job as pleasant as possible though

I understand you reaching breaking point with the hse when they come away with nonsense like that. I'm not sure swapping to forestry will solve your problems though as it's beset with same nonsense, likewise the great british urban public/small minded people can be found everywhere. Coming back to forestry specifically you need lots of specialised kit and it's more expensive than arb stuff. Will take a while building up contacts on estates etc also to try source the timber. Suggest you take a holiday and come back with a clear mind and then make decision on way ahead. Good luck. Edit: or don't turn your back on arb altogether but keep at it for income stream while you build forestry side of business

Wouldn't buy a new saw without them. As mentioned it's not just the cold days but the wet days where they come into their own.

The bureaucracy and regulation is why I've never pitched for FC work and turned it down when they've sounded me out. Bit of a shame really as I've deliberately configured my outfit for small compartments which are uneconomic for the larger operators. Life's too short for all that nonsense though! Incidentally I looked a job today and even though private ground I've to do risk assessments/methodology for refuelling, working near watercourses etc. I'm not sure if "we don't spill fuel as its too expensive" will be sufficient.

What a great video, someone doing things the way they've done it for centuries. Also a good reminder that the more we drape ourselves in hi vest and regulations the more jobs and industry will disappear overseas.

Know the feeling, I came up behind a battered transit van doing 20mph up road beside our yard, they indicated me to overtake and as I passed the occupants were rubbernecking the yard. Hopefully fact I pulled in, jumped out and photographed them and van means they know they've been spotted, course if they want in then they'll get in. We have three gates plus dead weights needing moved to get in, anything to make it as hard as possible.

Trying to, people keep ordering though. Still got couple hundred ton stock though so works well if get rid of that.
