  1. lets machine turn tighter and can help get over obstacles. Not sure what size that machine is but the original Norcar was very small so didn't need low loader, I've seen them use small stack of pulp and lifting bogies to get onto lorry.
  2. I could actually do with a cutter. If you're undercutting your own daily rate then no wonder there's so many threads grumbling about prices paid. You have your costs and your rates so stick to them Coming back to the op; there's days of work in those trees, machinery needed, it's not even great firewood.. And the owner wants money for them! All I was trying to flag up was for op to place a realistic value on time/costs and don't be seduced by idea of cheap wood, my experience suggests it'll turn out to be anything but.
  3. Bear in mind though that during those three days you could be doing something more profitable than cutting up ugly dangerous trees. Then once it's back in your yard there will be more processing to do.
  4. I personally wouldn't pay anything, there's an awful lot of work there getting that converted into saleable firewood. And as stated they're very nasty to deal with, that first one is going to malky the fence and possibly end up sitting back onto stump or maybe even slightly beyond
  5. Hill billy trap: [ame] [/ame]
  6. Fiskars 5000 is big old crane for roof of a county. We had one like that for a while, it could lift but nerve wracking on side slopes
  7. I've put box of EHC/ISP stuff up on Arbtrader. I got all the cards and levers tested/repaired and the levers are now showing nice smooth voltage increase. Unfortunately I got fed up with the poor wiring causing downtime so pulled all old ISP boxes etc out and fitted completely new system. A single refurbed ISP card costs £150 plus so bargain for someone running that system.
  8. You won't move as much once in wood but bit more flexibility with tractor/trailer combo. Edit: good pics Elf
  9. Again the chaps at A&B services have been converting diggers for forestry work for 30 odd years. There's quite a few mods they do to strengthen undercarriage and lessen track throwing.
  10. I know couple working Central Scotland but you're obviously bit far away. If struggling to find anyone you could try contacting A&B Services, Killin as they build them and may know of one local to you

    The dress!

    Opposite here!
  12. It won't be a peach if you don't get paid TCD! Get a drawdown once you arrive onsite, if he can't afford that then I'd suggest you either walk away or better option - buy the timber from him standing and you do the selling.
  13. I know they edit it for entertainment but what a shower of useless buggers. Only one seems to be showing any desire to do something, as for the one without a job for five years....
  14. Have you dealt with the owner before and what are your payment terms? If not dealt with him before I'd be looking for money upfront as soon as the machines are on site as you simply don't need the hassle of a late/non payer.
  15. The writing on ours states they must not be stacked more than 8 high
  16. Reading between lines that woman has pain in the arse written all over. Wonder if guy who felled it gave up and bailed out.
  17. Measured bottom 6.3 on biggest tree today - 1.7m3 Didn't have phone on me to take pic unfortunately but believe me he was hairy
  18. In my opinion that's not gentle teasing and whatever the facts are it's you who isn't coming over well.
  19. Mort, make sure you cut vents in them before stacking as it really helps the timber dry. As for keeping them dry we just put a lid on the top one before stacking - make sure it's well secured as it's windy up there!
  20. Awkward site TCD Once you've fed them couple times the Robins make me laugh the way they literally jump up and down demanding grub
  21. Our 560s run 3/8 and I'm pretty sure it was just the sprocket that was changed. I keep meaning to try one of them on an 8 tooth to see how it cuts.... I also keep meaning to send one of the 365s to Spud for porting,
  22. Fair points Jules but I don't think guy covers himself in glory either... He just comes over as a compen merchant. On a personal note I'd be glad to see the tree gone when it was so big and right next to window.
  23. No intention of working FC land as too much hassle for such low margin return Good point aardvark re training and something that's came up already.
  24. Ok good points. They'll be labour only subcontractors, I'm going to see if can get assistance with training costs. Re Rams etc I'm only going by guidance on HSE website plus suggestions from insurance people (ABI guidelines) When I say his tickets have lapsed he can't remember which ones he has and who he did them with, so that doesn't really help me if there's an accident and HSE come investigating. I thought of another thing I should do - induction. The whole lot of paperwork is total pain in the arse but I'd rather spend some time getting it done now and then at least I'll have some peace of mind
