  1. I'd guess about 5m, look on Palax website and it's there, mega log deck I think is how they class it
  2. We've got the biggest Palax one, can't remember exact rating but I'd guess it takes about 12 cubic m. It needs kit to load it etc but imo it's the most efficient, labour saving device in whole firewood production chain.
  3. Good video, thanks for posting. Out of interest why were you topping some of them?
  4. Distance hauled is crucial likewise what diameter it is too, chipwood goes down to 3", if you want 10 to 15" stuff for processor then that could've went as logs so has higher value.
  5. As NR says above burn holes with heat gun, better than slashing as not so prone to rip afterwards
  6. I think things slowly heading in right direction, May election will be crucial though. How confident will you be if it ends up Labour in govt with support from the Scottish socialists?
  7. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/green-party/11356354/Drugs-brothels-al-Qaeda-and-the-Beyonce-tax-the-Green-Party-plan-for-Britain.html
  8. Addition to above: if the worlds population is increasing substantially every year, which is fact and not a theory. Then it follows that mankind will demand more resources/emit more CO2 servicing this population increase. If we are in fact facing Armageddon due to increase of CO2 emissions then why is population increase never ever mentioned?
  9. I'm not sure it's fair to say people taking issue with man made climate change are in same category as creationists. I remember man made climate change scientists/enthusiasts telling us we wouldn't see snow again. Given what I've seen with my own eyes - and not a projected theory - then forgive me if I keep an open mind. Likewise I believe there has been no global temperature increase, inflicted by man or otherwise, for 18 years. This flies in the face of what the models projected so again I'll keep an open mind. Likewise I understand that some organisations are claiming that 2014 is the warmest year ever. Other sources state that this claim is based on results from one country only. The data from the rest of the world indicates no change.
  10. It doesn't matter what the policy is or how virtuous it is. The state should never put individuals under threat of losing employment for having a different opinion.
  11. So we live in a free and democratic society but if an individual disagrees with Green Party policy they should be summarily dismissed from their post? Or to put it a different way.. If Nigel Farage picks a policy, he then expresses opinion that all state employees who don't fully support this policy should be summarily dismissed you'll fully support him?
  12. Are you actually being serious?
  13. Maybe this should be in the free speech thread instead.. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-26187711
  14. Good post Kevin. Of course Thatcher made mistakes but she's head and shoulders over anyone on political scene today.
  15. Brown followed Tory spending plans originally as per his manifesto pledge. Then he turned on the taps: "After 2000 public spending increased rapidly, with a peak of 45.5 percent of GDP in 2010 in the afermath of the financial crisis of 2008, followed by a slow decrease in subsequent years." Thatcher was actually against bank deregulation but her advisors argued strongly in favour so she conceded. Also worth noting that the supervisory structure was replaced by brown prior to the bank crash. I think it was Canada which also experienced issues with their banks, however they hadn't mortgaged themselves to the hilt in the good days so moved on very quickly.
  16. Again that's not really true, it's was Broon's great spending spree that buggered us and got us in so deep we can't get out. We're still spending 100 billion per year more than we take in and the bank support is long gone. The bank shares will ultimately be sold (some already have) and cash recouped. For the record I'd have prosecuted the bankers who fiddled the books
  17. But that's not really what happened, she didn't "shut them down" for the hell of it. These industries were haemorrhaging money and mainly the unions wouldn't let them change or restructure in any way. And as usual after a labour govt the nation was totally and utterly skint so there wasn't money to keep subsidising.
  18. What industries exactly? Most were massively inefficient propped up by massive subsidies, it was refusal to adapt and union intransigence that finished them off.
  19. Nice timber, what forwarder are you running Iain?
  20. I think it was, remember just exactly what state Britain was in when she came to power - we couldn't even keep the lights on! And whether you like her or not, or agreed with her or not she never acted in personal interest but always in what she believed was best for Britain. The historical archives being released confirm this.
  21. Someone's not being disrespectful to the great lady surely!
  22. Why, were you thinking of applying?!
  23. That's unfortunate Eggs, hope nothing expensive was nicked. One reason we don't do yard collections is try to limit exposure and hence my thoughts on the photo stuff.
  24. I don't know if you're taking the mick or not Wolfie! If they buy it then will be moved by lorry
  25. Now we're talking Wolfie!
