  1. Well said Garry. Was going to post something similar. Still will be hard for those that have got used to a government handout to suddenly have them taken away.
  2. Thanks for sorting that out Steve Wouldn't have deliberately excluded anything but the cat does sit on the keyboard sometimes
  3. I tried logging out and it appears but when logged in it's gone. A couple of pictures from the screen with the first logged in the other logged out
  4. I have found the picture forum by clicking on "Home" and scrolling down to the blue menu at the bottom. Still does not come up if I go to "Forum" or "Today's Posts" Should it show up in the main menu?
  5. Wouldn't count on it. I made a single way/no way blade so just a single piece of hardened steel cost me £80 then £50 to have it shaped to the clamping mechanism. It's still not as good as steel as the Farmi one. Blunts more easily and seems less springy. You can put one helava twisting load on the blade when a logs goes squiffy and it will take some serious steel to withstand this.
  6. Sorry Steve but still can't find it through the menu. Manged to get to it by searching for a thread in it and then clicking where it said picture forum. Then typed out my post but is does not show up under todays post. Anyone else unable to find it?
  7. Where has the picture forum gone? Scrolled through the menue of forums and could not find it. Manged to find it through another thread and posted a question but it does not appear
  8. I know there are some very good photographers on here and would love to see any pictures of this autumns lovely colours

  10. Would have thought if you split it small the volatiles are released quicker so faster combustion. You could limit the airflow but this would result with the volatiles going up the chimney without burning but that would be a waste. As for optimum log size I like to sell 3"-4" diameter. Diameter is not really a good term for the logs but going on about pieces of cake you get odd looks
  11. You will find with a bit of practice changing the blade takes seconds. Don't think there is more debris with the six way. The logs seem to run true to the grain direction better with the six way than the four way.
  12. This page but you will need to scroll down a fair bit. https://www.facebook.com/groups/1438926289712224/?fref=ts
  13. I reguly us mine but it's quite a small diameter range that it's perfect for. You will undoubtedly still find yourself re splitting pieces if you're fussy about log size. Have you got the attachment so the splitter can be used from the splitting side? If finances are tight this might be the more useful option.
  14. Ryobi belt sanders used to be good. I have 4" model that's been going well for best part of 20 years. Sanded whole floors with it without a hitch.
  15. Sky high 40-60 % my meter is not very precise for the high values.
  16. Sounds like you have ash bark beetle. Our logs get this but I explain to customers what it is and that it won't destroy their furniture and they have all been happy so far.
  17. Think Holly needs drying quickly if you want it to keep the creamy white colour.
  18. Did you get a pallet truck with scales? Be interested if they were any good
  19. Might be of intrest Log splitter ArbTrader Arborists Classifieds
  20. 2 more samples of sweet chestnut. One from latest load and probably recently cut. The second has been here years and think it was stacked in the woods for some time before that. Both pieces were cut from the middle of a length but the old piece was a larger section.
  21. That's dry weight Bob. It's been in the house for a season and reading 11%. Will try to weigh part seasoned sweet chestnut today.
  22. No idea where abouts in the tree it came from but great fact of the day as I never knew that Every days a school day here on Arbtalk
  23. Surprised it's that high on average Steve. Just grabbed a sample of Ash and S chestnut. Workings are on the wood
  24. Just test a sample. Cut a piece say 10cmx10cmx10cm. Weigh it then multiply by 1000 When you semi seasoned sweet chestnut how long has it been down? Our experience is it's implausibly slow drying in the round. I have some 3+ years old stuff here so may test some out of interest.

    Stove

Looks like it's time to try one of those Technik workshop stoves. Went to light my old Relax stove and thought I would give it a good look over before lighting. Hmmm think it might be knackered Scary thing is I used it last week without noticing the gaping hole in the back.
