Logs! 100 tonnes a year makes 200 m3 of logs. If you can dry them well and in a favourable area should be able to get £100 per cube for the hardwood and maybe £80 for the soft.

No problems sharpening wide plane irons on a narrower grinder. Just a bit of practice you would have it sussed in no time. -
That looks just the ticket. Hope hope they do it in smaller sizes.

Been good Jon. Some of the regular heavy users have not bought much but lots of folk who just want an evening fire have been keeping us busy. Maybe warm but many use a fire to drive off the damp. Great Drying weather if you can keep the rain off the logs with high temps and gales

Thanks but would need several to make up the width required. May yet do this. Like the Idea of the Heras panels and covering them but not been able to track down any locally. Good to hear the windbreak mesh does stop the rain penetrating.

Have got some but they are well oversize and when just fixed at the top can get blown back over the roof. If the mesh works would make up a lightweight frame with the mesh attached and place it in front of the bay that's about to be used.

Very horizontal Already have 2' overhang on a 7' high shed.

Have lots of low sheds with stacked logs in them. Southerly gales blow right into the front and soak the logs. This is not a problem from the overall drying process but have had a a few mutters from customers when delivering freshly rained on logs. Thought I would just get some tarpaulins to hang under the roof to stop the wind blowing in but seems there aren't any heavy duty tarps as small as I need i.e 1.6-1.8m high. Was wondering about windbreak mesh and if it would stop most of the rain going in. Anyone tried this? Thanks

Only thing that would touch them I would have thought would be diamonds. For them I would be inclined to try a flat diamond stone but I have not sharpen ceramic knives myself.

A diamond steel Mark. I have the DMT and it's been pretty good but my brother (a chef) got an oval one and it's definitely nicer to use. Tried a few sharpeners where you pull the knife through between two stones but the edge is poor by comparison. Whatever you get USE IT. The amount of places I go and the knives are blunt and I offer to sharpen them and perfectly good sharpener is sitting in the cupboard unused. When it comes to sharpening little and often is the way to go.

I don't use it continuously for long lengths of time more walking the dog and locking up in the evening but would say nearer 2 hours than the claimed 3 on full beam. This is for the H15S. Can easily test if you want.

Lottie in the avatar can recommend Freud. She had one for years and worked well and much cheaper than some of the big name brands. Ebay might be good as they are very simple bits of kit without much to go wrong.

I'm dense as well Kevin. Can't see the need for PL cover for selling logs and don't have it at present but wondering if I do now

Hard to say exactly the ones I have measure would hold 0.6 if they held square but with the amount the bulge it must be a bit more. I would guess 0.7 m3. Think there are different sized builders bags to complicate matters. Price wise we are at £100 m3 for really dry hardwood and £75 for softwood.

It's one helluva big builders bag to hold 1m3 of logs.

Been watching the rainfall radar today and looks like the lakes have had biblical amounts of rain. Talk of 300mm on the hills! Hope things aren't too bad but it don't look good

Yes biscuit jointers are the way forward for speed. Dowels work fine but a pain to make them line up perfectly. If you have a router and don't fancy buying a biscuit jointer cutting a groove and adding a spline would work well.

Hooray just got paid Seems the "letter before action" did the trick. Only posted it last night and amazingly get a call 08.30 this morning saying I would have payment today followed by a lame excuse. BACS for full amount arrived this afternoon. Anyway thanks for the support on the thread and the PMs Beau
