  1. Have you emigrated? Been nice start but just had a heavy snow shower leaving a light covering Off to split some more logs
  2. Very kind of you but no need Passed the advice given here to my mate and left it at that. He is probably up that way from time to time anyway.
  3. Woodworks

Basic Tom Tom for us. It just works. Relying on a mobile around here is waste of time.
  4. Now there is a thought Not going completely green but not going to continue the nicely nicely approach either.
  5. Mate just brought over a 361 which had taken a bit of a drop. Big hole in the housing the air filter mounts on. He wonderd if I could fix it with some glass fibre and resin but before messing about with that thought would ask on here first.
  6. Got a large open plan living room/kitchen. Wood burner one end and extractor at the other. Had a stove with a closed combustion ie it draws it's air from the outside. It all seems a pain but I can see why the rules have come in. Probably makes no sense in an old farmhouse that leaks like a sieve but modern airtight homes are a different kettle of fish.
  7. Yes I am now working at it. Hard to do when day to day the truck works fine but I know that diesel in the oil is going to bite me if I kept it. Also got a custom top box and modified Loadhandler that will useless on other trucks. Just a pain starting again.Talking to head office funnily enough has made the local agent more cooperative. Had a very nice call last week to say "bring it in and we will give it a good check over". If I push for them to take it back what sort of percentage of original cost should I look for? 18 months old with only 11000 on the clock.
  8. Just a little update. Been talking with Isuzu and had this from them "Rising oil level can be caused by a vehicle fault but can also be the result of many outside influences including but not limited to: repeated journeys during which the engine does not reach optimum temperature, abnormal periods of engine idling, high number of engine stop starts, extended operation at low vehicle speed, the use of incorrect grades of fuel or engine oil, failure to observe the recommended service regime. The owners handbook supplied with each new Isuzu includes advice appertaining to the function and operation of the DPF." O and this "The fact that under certain driving conditions problems with DPF performance can be induced is not a vehicle fault. " Read into that what you will
  9. It's a shame about the Dmax as in some ways it's a good truck but can't be doing with it dumping diesel in the oil. It will be fine if it gets to clock some miles but my work will never offer it that. Looking like the Hilux is top of the list
  10. Still deciding what to change to and current thought is stick with a truck but an older one without a DPF. Hilux sounds like a safe bet and pre 2011 to avoid a DPF So lets hear all the horror stories on these
  11. Only tried an Oxdale once but the blade is so close to the main upright uneven logs often got pushed out instead of split.
  12. Don't get mixed up between impact wrenches and impact drivers. The first two you link too are the latter and has been said for screws. I have a larger impact driver (150 NM) and it can manage smaller nuts of say 13mm but would not reach for it for anything that was stuck.
  13. Don't worry Kevin we put him straight to work. Then he survived a vicious assault from our deadly feline. Always welcome here Paul
  14. Only oils I have tried on chopping boards is Tung oil and olive oil. Had olive oil go rancid so only use the tung oil now.
  15. I am no expert hedgelayer but do a bit here and there. Remember laying this piece of ash outside our house many years back and thinking it would not survive as I had cut too deep and it was hanging by a wisp of wood. Now look at it!
  16. It does. Would love to see the Roadford woodfair return. Am making enquiries to see why it stopped and what would be requires to reinstate it on the calendar.
  17. Nice to briefly meet you Kevin . Had a good day today shame about the rain this afternoon. Got to have a mooch about at lunch to go see the equipment up in the woods. Took a few pictures but missed the majority of the demonstrations. Any other Arbtalkers there?
  18. Think Will is spot on there.
  19. And your advice as been greatly appreciated. Along with the winch and some shear pins the aforementioned strops and shackles are in the post Think I will give the pulley a miss for the time being. Looks like a hefty bull rope is the best way to add a pulley.
  20. Never had to sharpen mine. Seem very good quality but all nice clean wood from the hedges.
  21. Thanks Chaps Going to have a good read of that forestry guide on winch use. Must admit not really used one since CS31 32 many years ago.
  22. Hi Chris. Never have had problems with mould in the sheds. The sides of the sheds are slatted and double slatted each side of the internal uprights. I leave gaps between each row plus a pallet for the floor. The load in the truck was 1m3 but 12" logs so they didn't seem that many when tipped out. Wish I had put the shorter length in. We also do a 2 cube load with greedy boards. Thanks all for the comments. Really helpful
  23. Looking at getting one of these [ame=http://www.amazon.co.uk/1600KG-Wire-Rope-Hoist-Winch/dp/B009NETAD2]1600KG ACE Wire Rope Hoist Winch - 2500KG Pull Expert Lift 1.6 Ton 2.5 Shear: Amazon.co.uk: DIY & Tools@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51UVg%2BEoQ3L.@@AMEPARAM@@51UVg%2BEoQ3L[/ame] and have read on here of using pulleys to double up the pull. Can you run the wire cable through a pulley? If yes any recommends and presuming a few strops would be a good idea as well or can you loop the wire around something and hook it back onto itself? Any other extras I should be looking to get with it? Thanks Beau
  24. Bliming hell! Having seen your other pictures of all your tidy logs ready to go you have done a great job of getting it all sorted.
