Looking at your other thread I would have thought you want some short rotation coppice and for these I think willow and poplar are the ideal species. Think a member on here called Marko planted up coppice just a few years ago and was having good results from willow. If he does not comment on this thread might be worth messaging him.

Used some Rapid racking and it's been great. Easy to assemble and tough.

Brilliant chaps Could have wasted hours trawling through sites looking for them instead 10mins on Arbtalk and sorted. Strange. Someone kindly posted that the top one is a D lynch pin then removed their post. Thanks anyway whoever you were.

Elm is very prone to woodworm in my experience.

Yep works perfectly now. Brake feels better than it has for some time. Thing is that bit of casting affected taking the break off not putting it on so not worried.

Had the brake band snap a week ago and left the bits together on the shelf until this morning when I fitted the new band. Bit embarrassed to be honest as not prone to having bits left over

Yes not sure when it broke off but I noticed as I was really forcing the lever to release the brake and it would bend down instead of going in the direction of the spring. Can't release the brake as it is. Current plan is to shape an offcut of ally and epoxy into place.

Just replacing a broken chain brake on my saw but couldn't release the chain break. On close inspection the casting has a bit missing. I have taken a picture and it's right in the middle of the picture. Any thoughts on repair or spares?

As said buy Guss have a look at wheeled strimmers. We have a fair bit of rough grass here and if I stay on top of it a mower (Stiga Multiclip Pro 48) copes but miss a few weeks and have wet grass and the mower is stuffed. Bought a DR wheeled push along wheeled strimmer last year and it smashes through most things but for an acre I would get a self drive one.

There was a conversion for a more efficient oil burner something like snugburner which was apparently far more economic to run.

Depends on what size and length. For short ones plug cutter can make them presuming you have a drill press. For longer ones I just route a piece of square wood to a round using a router and radius cutter. This style http://www.eagleamerica.com/product/320-9005/woodboring_-_plug_cutters

American black walnut is expensive. Last time I bought some I think it was around £70 cubic foot but this was some years ago so undoubtedly more now.

Might be workable but not convenient. The crates go in the field with the sheep and get relocated each year to let the ground recover, extra fences could prove a problem but will mull it over Would like a neat solution on each crate if possible hence the pallet wrap idea.
