  1. Interesting driving technique! Don't know how he can call it ugly though, Mogs are pure sex
  2. It's the way military procurement works - suppliers can't be expected to double production at the drop of a hat when war breaks out so kit is stockpiled. Then sold off.
  3. Butterbur. Don't eat it, it'll knock out your liver and give you cancer.
  4. Yep, write it off as a bad do. The travel expenses and the shopping are of no concern whatsoever to the employer. Technically you should have had notice of the accommodation etc charges before you started, but it really isn't worth exploring this now. Additionally, if you didn't give notice that you were leaving (and such notice had been agreed) the employer could in theory claim additional expenses that he encountered as a result of your leaving. That's almost unheard of unless we are talking big players and big losses though, as it's just not worth it. Don't let it get you down, move on and remember that what doesn't kill you makes you stronger
  5. Perzactly! Have they left it on a shelf somewhere and can't find it??
  6. Good thread There are some pretty big field maples around, but they're few and far between. Here's a big one:
  7. You have a PM.
  8. I was walking a site during a planning appeal once and the appellant referred to the environmental benefits they would bring to the area, such as clearing all of that invasive weed Petasites!! Yes, it's a terrible plant. Ruins all of our riverside woodland...
  9. Excellent event, and well done for braving out the weather. Tough decision well taken I say!

  11. Ecologist, military teaching/instructing qualifications and management of risk practitioner. Not sure they add up to anything useful though!
  12. Recycled plastic, but it will be more expensive to buy and difficult to install. I'm not sure I like it, but some folk will. The strainers might need to be wooden as well. Alternative Plastic Fencing A Real Alternative To Wood
  13. They'll try to lay eggs in you if you've been felling trees all day
  14. That axe really needs to be zeroed for the left handed batsmen!
  15. Give me a shout if you don't find anyone - I'm a lapsed MIEEM and have 6 years' experience of producing ecological site surveys.
  16. Unless they are harlequin ladybirds - Japanese knotweed of the insect world!
  17. Their architect should supply topographical plans with the trees marked on. On smaller jobs, download from Google maps etc and draw the trees on. Make sure you comply with BS5837 though or you might find that the LPA takes issue with it.

    Is this bats?

And don't forget, roosts are protected as well as the bats themselves. Even when they're empty.
  19. One thing after another! Good effort soldiering on with the show.

    Is this bats?

As an addendum (I can't see it anywhere else in the thread), there was a defence of incidental result of a lawful activity but it turned out that the UK parliament had incorrectly implemented the EU directive and the law was changed - i.e. that defence no longer exists.
  21. If you can prove that the LPA told you that no TPOs were present on the property you worked at, you will be fine. See Lovett, Newman and Barton V Epping Forest District Council for a judgement relating to the TPO being on the wrong side of the fence. Slightly surprising result.
  22. Not far from me! Best get ready for a spot...
  23. Do you mean an interview under caution? Or the issuing of a formal caution? If the latter, did you admit to the offence? Either way, it's not a conviction which means (a) you don't have to declare it when listing convictions (unless asked for cautions as well) but (b) it is not covered by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 so it will never go.
  24. As it happens, I don't think I have ever used a BOAT/RUPP recreationally, it just doesn't feel right to me. I've used plenty in the course of my work over the years, and obviously plenty of stuff that has no particular legal status. Recreation is just better served on private land if you ask me. I just get a little annoyed with the double standards that the Ramblers show sometimes and feel that other 4x4 drivers (ie other than me) should be free to make responsible choices if they wish.
  25. Don't hold your breath for the Amenity Trees series!
