  4. Nice one Si. now you can figure out to do for woodfest :0 and then Carrbridge!
  5. just started in Portlethen about 30 minutes ago. I was in the woods in a light fleece at lunchtime turning a bowl on a pole-lathe and now I just had to go out and cover some young plants in the garden. Gotta love weather
  6. was tempted to shout out but im fully commited for most of this year now
  7. Bit far for me to travel but there are a few in your general area. Simon ? Wisewood, be based liverpool area

  9. Im assuming thats a girth of 5.5 foot, not meter?

  11. contact RobD on these forums, he will sort you out
  12. i think tehre is a thread started by archer taht covers this
  13. gosh, now i know why i dont tend to comment on pictures from people i dont know, the risks are huge. Get a carving set-up and see how far you can stretch yourself, and maybe worry less about what comments are made by strangers on what is, in effect, organised graffiti-walls glad to see i wasnt misunderstood upon second look. i like the piece, has balance and symmetry whilst retaining a lovely gentle comic charm and is very much 'of the now' kids will love it, irrespective of their age
  14. good work there Steve
  15. time to get a carving set-up
  16. interchangeable heads? i tried one of those gizmos a while back and they are a bit fiddly to set up but once you have them right they are dam fine
  17. leave it, its kinda funny
  18. yes, seems teh stihl or the oregon ones fit fine... so i ordered a 550xp today and it should arrive tomorrow. For now i will run it with my toonie bar and the 95vpx chain and then, when RobD gets back i will get a new sprocket and try running 3.8 low pro chain. Ill post a review once i have had a chance to play
  19. so glad its not me who get comfusticated by the numbers. My usual answer to that question is "old enough to have known better"
  20. I have been, he suggested i also open it up here. Looks like the simple answer is "no", not for lo-pro chains anyway. not a nightmare, would just be nice to have the option of a small profile chain sometimes. would make big curved cuts a dream
  21. yep, understand it now. Wish i was better at the mechanics stuff but i get distracted by the carving stuff
  22. i sold my old ms180 (not 181) on ebay last year for spares as it was pretty tired after a few years carving with it. carving is hard on these small saws as we will run them constantly for hours on end (i typically run my ms180's constantly for 2 or 3 hours at a time, just stopping to refuel. The old one i sold as non-working although it did run (ish) and it went for close to 100. the 50 he has offered you is way too low
  23. i knew you lot would have some thoughts on this, if you need answers, ask experts So, Cat, you ran 3/8 from the start with the stock rim? (i know, im a user not an expert, hence i ask what might be dumb questions
  24. Hi chaps. i have put this on the chainsaw forum as well but just in case somebody here knows and dosnt lok at that forum... do any of you know if the drive sprocket/rim for both Husky 550XP/560XP are one and the same? Im thinking of a new carving saw (blocking out, not detail work) and considering the 550xp BUT i would like to be able to run a 3/8 lo pro chain (just nicer to work with for curves etc. its not a nightmare if i cant, I currently run a 440e with the toonie bar and 95vpx chains. plan is to put the toonie bar on teh 550xp and can run it with the 95vpx but would be nice to switch to 3/8 Any thoughts from your chainsaw experts? Dave
