  1. Mad as a balloon, or, to put it another way, a classic example of left / liberal elitist attitude towards any proposed policy or system which might help understand, record and attempt to "manage" the movement of people and the potential influence / effect upon National identity and the obvious need to gather this data to adequately allocate, manage and provide sufficient resources for public services. What is racist / xenophobic about seeking to understand the level of imported / migrant labour which contributes to UK GDP? Absolutely nothing. The National Census (http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/lounge/www.ons.gov.uk/ons/guide-method/harmonisation/...questions/ethnic-group.pdf) to name just one (just about any training course, school, public sector job application, request to join a Drs surgery asks very similar questions of ethnicity without, apparently raising the howling whine of racism from the Liberal / Left) So I fail to understand the sensationalism that is being whipped up by the media and opposing politicians. What's better - try and understand the situation or just ignore it and blunder on blindly like Jeremy?
  2. Another cabinet re-shuffle Jeremy? Slim pickings for sure! http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/10/07/jeremy-corbyns-reshuffle-is-his-silliest-yet--which-is-saying-so/ Chakrabarti as shadow Attorney General (previously a contender for "most dangerous woman in Britain") https://www.theguardian.com/media/shortcuts/2015/apr/21/nicola-sturgeon-shami-chakrabarti-most-dangerous-people-britain and Winnie Mandela as shadow Home Secretary..... The laughs just keep rolling in!
  3. You're thinking of popping round while he's down the pub???
  4. Second these suggestions.... and mote generally, consider air B&B!
  5. Some good advice, some, err, not quite so.... either way, time to move on! Can't believe nobody has said.... Forget the ####### toy, get a girlfriend or go down the pub with the lads!
  6. Hoping / planning to, just have to check date is free!

  8. I hauled a 3 draw filing cabinet out of my mates skip last Sunday. Ideal for a tool drawer methinks, mate was happy to free up a bit of space in the skip. I jumped in, emptied it and sat it beside the skip. Finished the dog walk, returned 10 mins later in the van to pick it up and there it was! Gone!! Who'd have thought it?
  9. Whoops! That post is in the wrong thread - should have been in the who posts TPO signage thread!!
  10. Thats the nail firmly smacked on the head! 👍🏻 Undermanned / under resourced to fulfil routine tasks resulting in the situation where planning notices are being sent to contractors to erect. Can't see it catching on in the building game so why for TPO apps? If they have to be posted at site, just like a planning app for building, so as to notify the public and fulfil the consultation requirement, that function is LA not applicant. The applicant may not wish to raise the profile and encourage public comment. Sending the notice to the applicant to post is a flawed concept!
  11. Yes, totally agree! Just got me thinking about "what ifs" and possible worse case scenarios. Massively unlikely that (a) anything would change in that timeframe (b) the home/tree owner didn't disclose if it had and (c ) that a prosecution might follow if it had. You'd have to be really unlucky on all counts..... Just my natural wariness playing
  12. First flush went from just under, to way over, ripe in the blink of an eye this year. Missed a lot spoiled on the tree, although the flies and wasps had a party!
  13. The question throws up a thought for me.... Whereas I would normally check TPO / CA status at the site visit / quote stage, it can be weeks / months before the work commences. It has been suggested in another thread that the TPO enquiry could alert the LA to a 'threat' to trees which could lead to TPO action being initiated. Personally, and based on the LAs in my area, I didn't think the system was sufficiently joined up for that. In the time between the initial enquiry and the work being started, it's possible that a TPO could be initiated, although the home / tree owner would need to have been informed. The question is, have they told the contractor that TPO action has been initiated? You'd like to think so, but..... And where would your defence be if they hadn't?
  14. Bit of an aside (blatant de-rail)! 2 things really... Second flush of fruits - remove or leave them on? Anyone else seen the biggest second flush ever this year (qty & size)??
  15. They're having a laugh! It's part of the LA task to post the notice at the site. Send them an invoice in return perhaps?

  17. Ha, ha! That's exactly what I did!! First 2 on 📱 then changed to 💻
  18. Saw that on FB earlier, really good demo!
  19. Mindful my comments are from a very basic CAD user / knowledge level, I found it all went a bit too quick and some of the actions you fairly flew through left me a bit confused. Background noise was distracting. Vid 4 & 5 had fairly lengthy periods of mouse activity without voice over explanation. Command line entries left me a bit confused. You must have a great working knowledge of the system to get through tasks at that speed but I found it was all a bit too quick for me. If the intended audience is basic / very basic / new users, it might pay to dumb it down a bit! Good idea to post it What sort of prices are the auto cad packages you are using and would you recommend a basic / entry level package??
  20. Thanks for sharing, it's a brave and humble thing to do that others may learn from your story. I can't quite get the picture straight in my mind from your description but it's of relatively minor consequence. I kind of "get" the rationale (comfort in the harness) that might be gained from retaining a higher tie in whilst prepping the cut - but it's not something I'd consider as worthwhile in the risk/benefit analysis. It just takes a momentary distraction / lack of concentration to result in your described end state. Where/when did you start using this technique? Was it taught or picked up along the way? Is it common out there in the wider world? Would you use it again? Your observation about the groundie not spotting it and alerting you is a key component of the chain of events (not to suggest "blame" rests there, just saying how critical the team effort is) and highlights the imperative of having switched on, tuned in, qualified staff with "eyes on" each other all the time. Hope recovery is well underway. Have you been back aloft yet?

  22. http://www.dyson.co.uk/fans/purifiers/pure-cool-link/pure-cool-link-tower-white-silver.asp Automatically removes 99.95% of allergens and pollutants as small as 0.1 microns from the air. Worth every penny and unlike some of the worthless "guarantees" some companies peddle, Dyson don't mess around. It's a replacement part or whole unit exchange - no quibbling! Had it with one of the hoovers and one of these towers.
