  1. I'm yet to find that there even is a realistic market Beau? I've always found that the cost of milling in situ is equal to or greater than the cost of buying in timber. Very rarely there's a home / land owner who has the 'emotional attachment' to the former tree and is prepared to pay to have it converted into a useable form for a project / hobby. If you do buy it I'll know who to ask in the future though!!
  2. (a) I had to google Julia Bradbury (b) I'm have Marmite on toast everyday © Is there more to this Julia Bradbury than google is telling me???
  3. It's an odd one! It looks like the trees belong to the neighbouring property and all the foliage on that side remains. Perhaps they couldn't reach an agreement about overhanging branches? Don't know the history. I was thinking, better to leave as dead standing rather than cut down but perhaps there wasn't the option of clear fell if they didn't own the trees? It's a nice straight topping out ( if straight lines are a good thing?) it's pretty stark, but hey, standing dead has to be better than felled and bare??
  4. Sat in a play park with the little one, here's a heavy prune to allow installation of a hard play area, interested in folks opinion: is it offensive or is it strangely attractive?
  5. Quite! Price low early and they're likely to expect comparable rates later. "Gee, really, you've got lots more crappy jobs you want done at budget rates? Where do I sign??" Genuine long term contacts get fringe benefits like site visits, LA liaison / correspondence, TPO apps etc as a "no cost" fringe benefit. The benefits come AFTER a customer / supplier relationship has been established, not before. And if it sounds like a PITA, estimate is free, site visit / quote carries a time / travel cost. There's a CIC nearby that are constantly chasing various sources of grant funding. Did a comprehensive quote for them last year. They needed it as supporting documentation for grant application. They didn't get that funding but found another source to try and tickle recently. Can we have another site visit & quote.... yes it'll be £x per hour and £y travel, when would you like to meet? Tumbleweed!
  6. 😆 Did exactly that yesterday! I turned up just as another matey was leaving. We had a quick chat, he thought it was a pig of job and too much hassle. A Silver Birch (actually a Euc! 😄) growing into a shed, over a pond and rotten decking.... "a horror of a job!" Simple speedline 1/2 day work for 2 was how I saw it. Not bothered how anyone else prices it, how quick I could do it or if they give it to chainsaw Charlie. The price is the price! Work hard / smart = finish early or do something extra, that's my choice not the customers.
  7. I'm not aware of a restraining order which might prevent it... Just a little 'uncomfortable' at the prospect!! 😆
  8. No, no, no, Don't be ridiculous...... This isn't the Dark Ages..... Wassailing..... That's where the answer lies!
  9. 😂😂😂 Stop! It hurts!!
  10. Anyone know of S Devon / Cornwall associations or competitions?? I'll have a google later but if anyone has any links be much appreciated!
  11. In laws are on Staffs moorland. I saw a fantastic long run of Holly hedge on a field boundary a couple of years back. A really impressive piece of work!
  12. Impressive apple! No chance of retention options?? 🍎
  13. Which is not the same as unladen weight..... And so the cycle continues!
  14. Great advice Paul! Tact is the art of making a point without making an enemy - Isaac Newton. Not something I've ever mastered!!
  15. That was a great clip! I'm not sure the other sofa dwellers were entirely convinced or keen for after show beers though!! Haven't made great in-roads with the book yet, and mindful that I'm likely to be a receptive audience, my first concern having watched that is that the "arrogance" (perhaps also indicative of the limitations of humans to express thoughts or verbalise ideas outside of our own familiar parameters) of human thinking, that we as a species, have to (or tend to) compare, measure or liken everything to ourselves. Just maybe, humans are the parasites and the trees are "talking" about us! 😳
  16. I'm still waiting for the all answering link to be sent! I'll ask him about it tomorrow AND ask the question about V5!! 👍🏻
  17. Trying to get an authoritative and definitive answer on unladen weight from the manufacturers is the crux of the problem Johnny. No arguments about what the qualifying criterion are.... It's just that getting a straight answer on unladen weight, as defined in Gov. guidance, from the manufacturers is like pulling teeth!
  18. That's exactly the problem I've been experiencing Monkey! All parties are using slightly differing terminology to describe "weight" and to make matters worse, defining what is / isn't included within their use of the varying terms slightly differently. I had a call from the salesman yesterday promising a link to a DVSA special notice which clears the whole thing up! I wait patiently for it to arrive and will share!!
  19. I think I know what you mean.... I rather like listening to Galloway - not always what he has to say, but without a doubt how he says it. He's definitely on the list of people to have a pint with (along with Boris & Nigel) Spring election......? The whispers are definitely out there, personally, I'm not convinced.
  20. I know, you know, I know, you know, I know, you know what I meant. You know?
  21. Email reply today.... Good morning Kevin Thank you for the email. I’ve sent off to Toyota GB to clarify. I totally agree with your points and we need to have clarity around it for all moving forward. I have found on our initial product brief a mention of kerb weight “Kerb weight/kerb mass is the weight of a standard specification vehicle, including fluids and 90% full fuel tank, but without the driver, any passengers or cargo. This would place the vehicle below the 2040 limit for DVP / DVSA ie 2090 less 72 = 2018 (80 litre fuel tank) This might be why it has not been highlighted as an issue before. I’m awaiting confirmation from TGB as this would alter the earlier response. As soon as I receive I will let you know. Kind regards
  22. Not really Mull, I'm not with you there ? Did you see the2 expose style programs? I didn't put much stock behind Soubry attacking MCDonnell on QT last week (except that the venom & vitriol were exceptional - even for her!) but Tim Farrell"s damming references yesterday seemed to offer a measure of confirmation so far as I could see. Then last nights documentaries. Don't suppose it'll make any difference to dyed in the wool Trot's!
