  1. This :thumb up: (and worth noting, the email the LA sent "asking" that you fill in their form could also act as an acknowledgement of receipt of the initial notice submission)
  2. Any noticeable weather changes last 24-36hrs? Recent rain??
  3. Awesome! You're a terrier for detail Sir!!
  4. for Lynher Training (I wrote the recommendation to ELC to get them accredited back in 2010/11 so that I could spend my ELCs with them.) If you're still "in" now, consider setting up as a sole trader NOW whilst still serving - it may allow you to offset qualifying expenditure for kit / equipment against other earned income - loosely speaking - if you have £1500 before tax per month now, but also have £500 expenditure on kit as a sole trader, you would pay tax on £1000 per month not £1500. That's really over simplified just to make a point, happy to talk in more detail offline or get along to an accountant (or RBL small business or HMRC Tax for small business course - available via resettlement centre) and talk it through. If you can, set yourself up now, whilst still serving, take advantage of spare time, leave, resettlement opportunities etc, then you can enter the jobs market as either a self employed subby or seek full time employment at TX. I've taken a guy who was leaving RE on work experience, he went on to do all his tickets (up to 40/41) with Lynher. All he needed was a letter to his company OC to confirm it was cosher work experience. If you find the time, I can find the opportunities and do the same if you want?
  5. These 2 posts seem to make the most sense so far wrt getting to the crux of the matter. I take the point about 'bolt-ons" too, I'd been thinking along similar lines regarding the canopy. I would argue (wether it would be accepted or not is another question) that a 'no-drill' quick fix canopy ought not to be considered as adding to the unladen weight but rather as a part of the load carrying capacity... Haven't heard back from the dealer yet! It will be interesting to get a definitive answer on (a) kerb weight & (b) unladen weight and if (a) is (b) plus driver and a tank of gas.
  6. I don't know any of the answers! I'm just trying to get to the bottom of it!! Luckily, we have a government that is committed to reducing red tape 😟 Just about to press "accept" on a new Hilux double cab but trying to understand the possible implications. It was the (rather teasy) Isuzu dealer that pointed out the potential speed limits on Ranger/Hilux due to weight (after I'd told him I had a better deal on a Hilux than he offered on DMax)
  7. That's my query.... It obviously IS confusing since we can't seem to get a straight answer.... If a pick up (Ranger/DMax/Hillux etc) is >2040kg it cannot satisfy the dual purpose vehicle scenario. I doubt all traffic police are clear on the subject BUT an automated camera will simply cross ref a database and issue a ticket - no discussion! It's no so much a question of what speed the vehicle / driver CAN do, but what they SHOULD do so as to avoid the potential for points / fine....
  8. I think that might be where the confusion, and my reason for asking arises - dual purpose vehicle <2040kg. Some pick ups are creeping over the apparent 2040 tripline and therefore potentially seem subject to reduced speeds?
  9. Bang to rights in a box van without rear windows, I'm sure that's 40/50/60. The snag comes with ANPR, registered vehicle details cross checked to database, if "commercial" auto print a ticket! Modern policing!
  10. Maybe an uneven load in the trailer causing turbulence and holding you back?? 😳
  11. Has anyone tried to untangle this before - What is the speed limit for pick-ups? Is it 50/60/70 as a dual purpose vehicle or is it 40/50/60 as a light commercial? It would appear from the article, old I know but it seems to replicate various other sources of internet wisdom, that so long as <2040kg unladen, 50/60/70 applies. Watch your speed in the farm pickup - Farmers Weekly Tech spec for new Hilux shows 1975 - 2165kg, so is it less than 2040 or not? A question for the dealership tomorrow.
  12. I think it was 'reasonable' rather than 'good.' Probably could have pushed for more but had a fish on the line who'd agreed price and travelled from Yorkshire to Cornwall to buy it - not to see it, but to buy it! The faff of seemingly endless, increasingly inane questions and the assumption that the price listed is a starting point for negotiations ground me down to a point where I considered withdrawing it. Example stupid question - Pictures posted clearly showed sign writing and phone number.... First question - what's your number! Offered complete with Front runner roof rack for an extra £300. Bloke said "I'm not paying £300 for a roof rack." So I took it off. That night he phoned again and said he couldn't believe the price of roof racks and would I take any less for it. Answer - no, I've taken it off and it's available separately for £550! Price I wanted was after service, MoT and some works that I had booked in. He quibbled 1k on price so he got it ex MoT & service (due end this month), roof rack & ladder, dog guard, spare wheel cover, front middle and rear mats all removed. I'm sure he's happy though since he got his price adjustment! Quick sale saved me <£1500 on service & associated works so no skin off my nose. Just can't help some people! It served me well but I was sad to see it go. I won't miss the cramped driving position, the leaking roof, the noise, the dreadful turning circle.... And I've got a new vehicle, 5 year warranty hassle free (hopefully) for the next few years... PS - the irony is, for my birthday (end August), the brother in law bought me a 12 month LRO magazine subscription - great! So if the prices really are rising (and whilst I've heard plenty saying it, I haven't seen it from a buyers perspective) I'll have to watch as the values rise over the next 12 months. Unless anyone wants the subscription??
  13. 😄 just got to find the time to read it when it arrives!! 👍🏻👍🏻
  14. I've preordered Gary, the title and extract seems to indicate some form of "emotional" connection which may lead to assumptions but passion, even if potentially unsupported, often makes for a good read! 👍🏻
  15. Little bit cheaper at Amazon: [ame]https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/1771642483/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1473579620&sr=8-1π=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=The+Hidden+Life+of+Trees+%3A+What+They+Feel%2C+How+They+Communicate-Discoveries+from+a+Secret+World[/ame]
  16. An interesting piece: Do trees have feelings too? One expert says they do Book available for pre-order: The Hidden Life of Trees : What They Feel, How They Communicate-Discoveries from a Secret World: Peter Wohlleben: 9781771642484: Telegraph bookshop
  17. 92k, 08 plate, service, MoT and RFL due this month. VAT rebate + cash from sale = new HILUX and enough change for a steak dinner. Don't like buying & selling, I prefer to keep what I've got until it dies, but it seemed to make sense on this occasion.
  18. Leader is the best bet (albeit a snowball in hell's chance) at the moment. I asked the question at the last leader presentation.... Have you grant funded MORE or LESS money than the cost of keeping all you desk jockeys in a job 'administering' the scheme? Tumbleweed.....
  19. Don't be too hard on yourself.... I understand the Mondeo is not so bad as its reputation!
  20. Signing lighting & guarding at street works. New roads and street works act 1991 https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/street-works
  21. Yome in Devon, might be worth talking to Jim at The Heritage Range Cooker They are in Liskeard, great company, Jim designed and manufactured his range cooker from concept to delivery, I'm not sure they do their own brand in wood burning variety but he does have wood burning stoves in the store. Really nice, genuine, knowledgeable chap.
  22. There are interesting historic sawmills at: Mount Edgecombe estate - Volunteering Friends of Mount Edgcumbe Country Park brief detail in the section "Stewards." and Cothele estate - https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/cotehele Might be worth a look....
