  1. That's deep & thoughtful! A message to us all in there somewhere....
  2. So efficient he catches up with himself for the missing 2 hrs? Stump-grinding time machine? 2 hours a day on Arbtalk?
  3. I had DMax (manual) and Ranger (auto) on test last week. DMax dealer said have it for several days, do what you want with it, tow, go off road, whatever, even OK'd the Mrs to drive it, bring it back when you're ready. It has 5 yr warranty and he offered a loaner if I had a gap whilst selling the 110 before he could source a new vehicle. Couldn't do enough, really faultless customer service. Ford said I could have the Ranger for 2 hrs, no towing, no Mrs to drive. Price wise - nothing significant to differentiate the 2. I just didn't like the DMax. That's all just waffle really, the point of the question is why might an auto be preferable over a manual? Someone told me it's better MPG for towing, any views on that? Or any negatives for Ranger? DMax is certainly cornering the ag sector down here, can't move for them at the markets. Apol's for derail from Original PU question!! 😳
  4. And those reading this.... And here ^ is the "prediction " (is that an appropriate choice of word?) for what the future holds???
  5. You are a proper mental case! I once ditched a wedding to play rugby but that was in my impetuous youth!
  6. How did this one pan out Oslac? I remembered the thread and had cause to look it up because (I think) I'm coming at the problem from the other direction at the moment: LA won't TPO, apparently based on a perception of lack of public visibility - i.e. not from a road / footpath even though the tree(s) are highly visible from a large number of private and rented holiday homes and a right of access pedestrian path. It's been a useful re-read of the discussion thread, a look at the planning practice guidance and a leaf through Mynors. Interesting that Mynors references s.40 of the Natural Environment and Rural Communities Act 2006 too (22.2.7 top of p572)
  7. I take back everything I said in post 17! You Sir, have a vision!
  8. No..... Just jousting with Richard! There are some bonkers tangents around but Roundup to Trident is just a step too far!!
  9. Only by sharing individual perceptions and ideas of what might be considered fair & reasonable v unfair & unreasonable can we gain a broader exposure and understanding of what might be personally acceptable. You've been a champion of what you perceive as fair and reasonable, I doff my cap to you and have much shared ground with the stance you've presented. In hindsight, the OP might have been better taking an anonymous user name and avoiding exposing himself & his (probably ex) employer to the public scrutiny...?
  10. I see your point Richard although I'd have to suggest it's a fairly flawed simile. Firstly, I think the precept behind your simile is flawed (a) because it presupposes members of the AF might unilaterally support a replacement for Trident whereas it actually represents a colossal and enduring "threat" to terms & conditions of service and manning levels and (b) after 30 years service, and obvious daily exposure to AF personnel, I'm not at all sure I'd say the opinions of the relative merit, or otherwise, of Trident replacement is particularly different amongst AF personnel from that which might prevail in the general population. And secondly, notwithstanding the potential flaws highlighted above, It would be wholly inappropriate for serving members of the AF alone to decide if the nation should replace Trident, "inappropriate" in the same way it might be for users of a harmful and borderline prospective banned product to be engaged in the discussion around the continued use of said product. 😜
  11. And that's why suggesting farmers might be suitable custodians of the countryside is like suggesting peadophiles should be consulted on the age of consent! (footnote - not ALL, but given that maximising profit and productivity are generally the driving factor, it's difficult to accept the NFU suggestion that farming is 'conserving' rather than decimating the natural environment through industrial exploitation.) I'm obliged to agree on this point! Please, at least, have a look at this: Pesticides An Ethical Approach to Environmental Protection | The Office of His Holiness The Dalai Lama
  12. I'm tired just reading about a day like that!
  13. As they'd say in Dragons Den... "...you've invented a solution to a problem that doesn't exist...," Maybe?
  14. I think there's a noticeable lack of many bugs and beasties. The screen washer spout broke on the Landrover before Summer and I haven't fixed or missed it yet... I would have expected to be an inch thick in bugs on the windscreen after a full Summer, but next to nothing! Not many butterflies seen either.... Increasing Herbicide Use | Union of Concerned Scientists
  15. What's your thinking? It struck me as a brilliantly conceived and developed piece of equipment with the potential to offer many and varied user options.... But.... Unless in massive trees / crowns, could probably mange quite well with a ladder and prussiks. Am I missing something or just too old?
  16. Rob's your man! Guide bars
  17. And the "problem" always seems to be associated with the bigger, rather than the smaller dog because public perception sees the big dog as the greater threat. I find reality is very often the exact opposite 😟
  18.:lol: Stop! You'll get Vesparianism all riled up!!
  19.:lol: Stop! The thread will be removed.....
  20. Ah, understood, I probably should have expanded "only has 2 options" with "only has 2 organic options"... Training and pack discipline are artificial (but potentially highly effective) elements of domesticated dog ownership which have significantly altered wild dog behaviour. I'm part way through John Bradshaw's "In Defence of Dogs - Why dogs need our understanding" ISBN 978-1-846-14295-6. It's not an easy read but I'm soldiering on.
  21. Lucky escape there.... I didn't see a mobile field hospital, full surgical team, anaesthetist, epidemiologist and med-evac helicopter..... It seems such precautions are "entry level" for tree work Stateside according to another thread? I did like the little extra technique I picked up from your vid though.... Does revving the saw at the tree usually make it go over?
  22. Is it a commercial site? Sounds like the sort of thing a poorly informed H&S man might say - presenting problems rather than facilitating solutions for safer working. The points about vehicle modifications, overloading, insecure, or poorly distributed weights are probably more applicable and relevant and closer to the reality than a blanket statement like "greedy boards are illegal" without any further explanation of what is meant. After all, what is a trailer cage system (albeit designed and fit for purpose) if not greedy boards by another name? Sounds like there may be some confusion between "illegal" and "not approved for this site / work space."
  23. Dog only has 2 options (fight or flight) when placed in a potentially threatening situation..... Dog walkers in close proximity, heading towards each other... Flight option has been removed / reduced because dog is on a lead... So the dog walker inadvertently increases the risk of fight. Tough situation you have there Mr Eggs.... Hope it works out ok for you and the fam.
  24. That's an interesting take on it! It's gonna get messy and lawyers are gonna get rich...
