Quite, just wait for the study, funded by DEFRA, to be (a) ignored by government and roundly condemned by the NFU.... You couldn't make it up! The Costs of Mastitis in UK Dairy Herds Mastitis in dairy cows "...Mastitis treatment and control is one of the largest costs to the dairy industry in the UK, and is also a significant factor in dairy cow welfare...." Not to mention excessive use of antibiotics in the food chain.....

At last it's back after the Summer break. Not sure I'll be able to watch it since Soubry is on tonight 👊🏻

I'm reconciled to that too. It would be nice if the dealer could be open and clear on the issue and the MoT class though. I genuinely think they don't actually know the answer to the questions

Tried my hardest mindful of your request not to get political views..... But.... (and in part prompted by the question 'interesting to see if it reduces tb') Here it comes anyway! The badger cull, in my opinion, is a reckless, irresponsible and fanciful squandering of public money on a piecemeal approach, designed and intended more as an appeasement to the pernicious lobbying of the NFU which has, and will continue to have no significant positive effect upon bringing the disease under control. Where the figures for cattle loss to bTB are applied as a justification for the badger cull, whilst simultaneously glossing over, for example, the self imposed cattle losses to mastitis in intensively farmed dairy herds, the morality of the justification is immediately exposed as the progression of self interest rather than a balanced and comprehensive policy to resolve the issue. The agricultural sector needs to look inwards at bio-security, husbandry, intensive farming and transportation to name but a few issues which may have an equal or greater contributory effect upon the prevalence of bTB than that supposedly caused by wildlife.

Understood! I agree actually, they didn't ask / offered no input about tacho but to be fair I didn't raise the subject or ask for guidance.

That mid EXACTLY What I'm trying to get a definitive answer to! You have it in a (rather large) nutshell! Currently Ford & Toyota main dealers are faffing and prevaricating on my simply question! How is it I can lose sleep over getting the detail right on a £1000 quote and these corporate muppets can't answer a simple question prior to a 30k deal? 👍🏻 you're bang on the money with that post and it may affect more people than are currently aware!

One for Gary and the Rotty massive.... (pinched from FB but I liked it!)

There's no oranges in there! Just lemon, lime, peach & grape! You never replied to that parish council thing!

Spot on....!! That was me typing whilst thinking of something else!! :bang head: I've neglected them and left them in the orangery all Summer! It's bad, and I'm half minded to give them a dose of something chemical and see if next year comes back better or just bin them and start again. I gave them a good 2 day all over soapy wash earlier on in the year but I just can't seem to keep on top of the little blighters!

Lemon is suffering, lime is succumbing and loosing limbs to aphid literally sucking the life out of them. Anyone had any success with natural predators? What worked and where to source them?

Totally agree, don't think it's gonna get any better any time soon! Especially noting job adverts that offer higher pay rates for climbers than TOs!! Totally agree! Uncharacteristically, looking at both sides of the problem.... It only takes a cursory glance through recent / current CA notices (those that are online) and TPO apps which are posted on LA websites to see that some fall woefully short of what might be considered 'adequate' to allow the process to proceed. Since either a homeowner or an agent can make the submissions, and some agents 'try harder' than others to present a submission that is likely to succeed, it would certainly seem to me that there are submissions that fall short. Conversely, and noting staff cuts and training deficiencies (let's call it 'efficiency measures'), building relationships is a 2 way street. It's not just for the contractor / operator to build a relationship with the LA, but also for the LA to build trust and respect from the contractor / operator. It seems to me that, across many domains of the public sector, the days of "the man from the Ministry" (I say man, because I'm referring back to a time when it probably was a man - equally likely to be a male or female nowadays) having an unassailable, invincible and overarching position of knowledge, experience, authority and respect are rapidly dwindling - not least of which because (as a result of 'authority' actions) the knowledge and experience are ever decreasing and, as a result of changing public attitudes towards authority, respect is dwindling. Respect will be further diminished when 'authority' acts (or attempts to act) outwith its delegated parameters - in the OP's case, insisting upon a TPO form for a CA notice so as to minimise LA administrative effort by attempting to pass that administrative effort over to the homeowner or their agent. There is a potential solution which could satisfy both parties in this scenario and that is to submit notices / applications via the planning portal - no quibbles over date of submission / validity / time to decide etc. There is even a system which allows you to register as a "smarter planning champion" details at the link: https://www.planningportal.co.uk/info/200205/professionals/115/smarter_planning/2 Not sure how effective that system is going to be though... I made the application submission 6 weeks ago, heard nothing back, phoned to follow it up yesterday and was promised a call back "from the one who deals with that...." On a side note, one of my sites had a TRN issued recently. I highlighted the errors / omissions / inaccuracies within said document to LA and suggested written withdrawal might avoid PINS and application for costs. Written withdrawal received yesterday. Doesn't really do much to establish, maintain or enhance respect for 'authority.' -
(I think) I'm relatively comfortable with that scenario whereby the tacho / no tacho thing is dependent on the nature of load / towed and the distance from base. It's certainly a whole other can of worms which has been bashed to death in a previous thread(s) Standing by to be corrected, but, so far as I understand, if I'm towing my tools for my use I don't need a tacho?

I would have thought you'd need to give consent..... otherwise it'd be armed trespass.

The maximum DVSA fee for MoT is: Class 4 £54.85 (for DPV) Class 7 £58.60 I noticed Halfords do a class 4 for £24.99 MOT Classes and Costs - Halfords Autocentres

(swearing!) I thought I had that piece squared away. So here we are back with the terminology issue.... Goods vehicles (up to 3,000kg design gross weight) from here: MOT Classes & Costs | MOT Check What does design gross weight mean? From Hilux brochure: Gross vehicle weight – total (kg) (3210kg) How does design gross weight differ from gross vehicle weight? From Hilux brochure: Payload 1045/1055kg Is design gross weight what it can carry or what it weighs? :bang head: These are the sort of questions I would have thought the sales team should know but, frankly, he's just making matters even more confusing!
-
Just looked up the MoT issue.... class 4 or 7 is a red herring since goods vehicles (up to 3,000kg design gross weight) are class 4 so that's not an issue.

I know good second hand stuff is rare, but thought this might be useful if you're considering second hand. Anthony recently had a mill for sale, not sure if still available. His website is: Contact us | Pentiddy Natural Burials Sorry, I don't know any details, phone number etc is on there.

That's very true. Note to self: Try never to leave the house or part company with friends without letting them know how important they are. Don't rush things or cut corners to save time / earn money. Sad and sobering thoughts.

Just had a call: In essence, the garage (main dealer Exeter) MoT all past and current Hilux as Class 4 by entering the chassis number and following the online process. There is no answer, just yet, as to unladen weight of the 2016 crew cab. I offered to put it on a weigh bridge!! My question then was, well, if it's being MoT'd as class 4, but it's not a DPV because it exceeds 2040kg, does that mean it's MoT'd in the wrong class and should be class 7 LCV and thereby leaving the driver / owner open to problems with DVSA/VOSA/Plod for not having a valid MoT cert? Bit of a stunned silence..... I don't think I mind if it does turn out to be too heavy for DPV and is subject to lower speed limits, I don't even think there's a massive difference in cost between class 4 & class 7 MoT (i may be wrong), I just want a straight answer one way or the other - surely it's not too much to ask? This is giving me a headache!

I recall reading somewhere that somebody had a theory (how random is that..... Almost "a bloke down the pub said....") that after a long dry spell a sudden downpour can lead to a rapid uptake of water causing cells to rapidly expand and essentially explode. Standing by for ridicule
-
It's certainly that issue Gary, wanting to know & comply with the appropriate law / regs (or, knowingly choose to accept the risk associated with, for example, exceeding the lawful speeds.) But what is also frustrating me is that the sales rep is either unaware of the regs relating to the vehicles he is touting, or he is intentionally and knowingly avoiding my fairly simple and binary question - is it a DPV or not? If he knows the answer and is intentionally being vague, then the implication of different than expected MoT class and restricted speed is a bloody shabby practice with financial implications. Grrrrrr!

Only what I see in my garden..... But totally agree!

Let's see what he comes back with.... Dear Jon, thank you for seeking that additional detail regarding vehicle classification / applicable speed limits. I’m not sure the detail provided by tech support actually answers the question if I am understanding the circumstances properly. To be classified as a DPV the vehicles unladen weight must be less than 2040kg (along with some other qualifying criteria.) What is the stated unladen weight of the Invincible double cab? It cannot be both DPV and LCV, it has to be one or the other and the speed limits that have been provided seem to indicate that it is LCV rather than DPV. This has implications for speed limits and MoT classification so I need to be clear on this.

Just received from Toyota: Good afternoon Kevin Apologies for not getting back to you earlier. Toyota technical support have just come back to me regarding the speed limits. Pickups come under duel purpose / LCV. Speed limits for the Invincible would be Built-up areas 30 (48)mph (km/h) Single carriageways 50 (80)mph (km/h) Dual carriageways 60 (96)mph (km/h) Motorways 70 (112)mph (km/h) I’ve enclosed the revised quote. Kind regards Jon I don't think he's answered the question which was: One question that has arisen, kerb weight and potential implications for speed limits - I understand that a ‘dual purpose vehicle’ such as a PU truck is classified as dual purpose, and subject to normal domestic car speed limits so long as the kerb weight is <2040kg. I note from the tech spec for the Hilux that kerb weight is listed as 1975-2165kg. Can you confirm what the kerb weight is for the double cab PU and is it restricted to commercial speed limits? Unless this whole thing is getting too much for me, would it not be the case that it is EITHER a dual purpose vehicle OR a light commercial vehicle? If DPV it's subject to normal car speed limits, if LCV it is subject to lower than normal car speeds?
