  1. Travel was a killer here too with the “tips for improvement fairly meaningless (a) in a rural setting and (b) given the work sector: cycle more and use public transport! As to flights, I do fly and it is voluntary / choice but take the last one, a return flight to Israel for less that a train ticket to Glasgow. Whilst those parameters remain, the National psyche will remain or the ‘solutions’ or ‘incentives’ must come from government - provide / improve rural public transport at a level which makes it attractive and tackle the source of air travel pollution by tech improvements. Could never go vegan but treating meat as a treat and being very thrifty with it is just good health, economic and environmental sense.
  2. 2 flights and 2 dogs gave me a bit of a kicking:
  3. Holiday Inn was HIS choice.... Mine would be more akin to Saga “Spirit of Discovery” for style, comfort and cuisine. Did have the extreme privilege and pleasure of an 8 week work secondment to Saga Rose back in early 2000’s. Southampton- Azores - Caribbean- Cuba etc etc. Couldnt wait to turn 50 so as to qualify as a passenger. Trouble is, I didn’t realise your companion has to be 40 or above so having to wait for Mrs J to age sufficiently for us to go together...
  4. An alternative approach to the twi light years, and maybe raises some fair questions about nursing home business model. https://www.holidaysincornwall.com/man-plans-to-live-out-his-retirement-in-a-59-per-night-holiday-inn-rather-than-188-a-night-nursing-home/ Quite timely since I’ve just finished a garden reclamation / restoration after the eviction of a 12 month delinquent tenant resulting in the property having to be sold by the family to pay for their mothers care home...
  5. I was just watching that on NewsFlare the other day. That is some serious thug life!
  6. As if International Womens’ day isn’t enough, I’ve had ‘votes for women’ as a reply every time I’ve asked for a cup of rosey all day, and now it’s ‘Made in Dagenham’ on the bloody Beeb, Christ alive, if it’s not enough that they’ve got the vote..... ?
  7. Bit of background here: http://www.jhbcityparks.com/index.php/street-trees-contents-29 If only we knew then what we think we know now.
  8. What a classic dilemma.... I very often feel like I wish I had them, but for every time I wish they were there I realise that there are equal and opposite occasions when I'm glad they are not... ? What I think I might have to settle for are the wheel arch buckets... If Money were no object, and I could have a truck with and another without, I'd have this system: https://www.truckman.co.uk/decked
  9. I didn't realise it was 10t/day (if measured ?) That's still a lot of burning!
  10. EA D7 exemption allows for burning of green waste (<10t) generated and burnt at the same site but there are mandatory conditions like not creating a nuisance. Last time I did it neighbours complained but that was just the latest in a series of complaints about unpopular (but consented) TPO felling. After the first burn up I got a call from Env Health at LA, told them I had D7 and said they were welcome to attend next time to monitor wind direction / smoke drift etc - they didn’t come. Also worth telling local fire station it is a planned / controlled / monitored burn to avoid genuine (or vexatious) call outs which could be an unwelcome distraction and could attract a call out penalty (if you tell them in advance it can avoid embarrassment or wasted time) Dot Gov Link here: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/waste-exemption-d7-burning-waste-in-the-open
  11. Blah, blah..... Different name, same routine! Standing joke hereabouts: Whats yellow and sleeps 5? A Cormac van ?
  12. You jacked yours in didn’t ya? Only difference, he’s on a green leather chesterfield and yours had Severn Trent written on the side ????
  13. Nearly Summer, Meh! It was in full effect in Liskeard yesterday complete with street food BBQ!
  14. I’m kinda hoping that will provide the ‘intended’ search return and maybe also some pleasant distractions.... ?
  15. Can we have a look at it? I remember some pics from previous... I had the peach dug in within the far end of a cow shed which I'd glazed top and SE face but it never really established with any vigour (to be fair, I think it was too far away to receive full the attention it deserved and needed.)
  16. BBQ Chicken wrap with curly fries and a side salad ?
  17. Technically, my job was to sit and eat lunch in the conservatory at the leisure centre whilst watching someone else at work, but worthy of a share methinks. ?
  18. I had the peach tree out over winter. Simply couldnt bear the annual cycle of anticipation, then the excitement and then the inevitable despondency as the fruit never quite developed into anything other than pleasing on the eye. Bastard beat me - I do wonder if I caved in too soon though. ? Had some considerable success with limes, not so much the lemons. Figs and grape in abundance though ?
  19. Inclined to agree with Mark. Maybe the garage re-build should have taken account of the tree and properly accommodated it (and future growth potential) Unlees the garage has some over riding importance which supersedes TPO, best they might hope for is some pruning.
  20. Hard graft, not the most ‘fun’ of jobs but mortgage payments all day long! I did a shorter row (but bigger trees) a while back. Couldn’t face grinding them all so got a planer head for Multione so I can sit and drink coffee whilst dealing with the stumps. ??
  21. Just got this promo email from Orange Plant. A handy piece of kit but I'm not seeing a threat in price point or capability to MO. Undoubtedly a very handy piece of kit - esp with the tracks - but it's not really a contender. https://www.toro.com/en/professional-contractor/compact-utility-loaders/dingo-tx1000-wide-track
  22. Guilty pleasure watching it occasionally! The food is amazing - the scale obscene!!
  23. And portion control! They feckers eat WAY too much! I can fair tuck it away, but last trip to NYC saw me & the Mrs sharing a starter as a main course - it’s quite obscene how much those Yankees eat!
