  1. I've known for years. Being a machine junkie. But it's the tech on this one that has me. The small arms at the top that allow the holding of up to three trees while safely grabbing and cutting another. Take a closer look. Mm precision. Most machines will only hold one and takes a bit of a knack to hold one while grabbing another.
  2. Saw this on youtube. Can't believe the technology that out there. Are hand cutters really going to be a thing of the past? Is walking around with a saw going to be worth it? Best part is I have been offered the chance of driving one of these. Got to say I jumped at the chance. Just got some forwarding to do before hand. Thinking the workshop work will become a thing of the past for me aswell. And yes I'm grinning like a Cheshire Cat and just can't wait.
  3. Working on the mz125 today. It's been painted and cleaned up. Engine is on and the wiring for the engine is one. Just need to finish painting the dual tank, air box, mud guards. Then it's a touch up everywhere else after having a few scratches on the frame from engine mounting. Then it's lights and wiring. I really hate wiring. It's just a pita. Working out from a diagram and realising that in the last various wires had been replaced with none standard colours, so having to chase wires from one thing to another. Blew out the contact points just as I managed to get it to spark. But it will spark and stop ok. So need to order some new points. Other than that not much today. It was a lovely sunny day and the doors where wide open.
  4. Change the plugs, check the oil, and clean the air filter out.
  5. I'm inclined to agree with this. I have done one now and it has made a world of difference to the saw. There are dual port mufflers available that have the hole in the front so all you have to do is braze a plate over the existing outlet. Plus it added a bit more grunt into the saw.
  6.:lol: Very clever. Just got up from a small nap. Was snoring too loud apparently, even the neighbours had a remark. but I don't know as I was asleep. Thanks for finding out for bud. And thanks for asking about other things. But I'm all good really.
  7. never had an issue with grindings. i tend to use safety glasses now and again. using a grinder i do. been caught out with fuel lines before. now that stings. but looking at what you do in a workshop im suprised you are not made to wear them from the minute you walk in the door. now if anyone wants pain i would reccomend arc eye..... now there is some serious pain.
  8. i think you just like charging around on them..... the mower i called you about is just having a service barrie. thought he would. and im actually gratefull as i didnt fancy taking that gearbox apart. and on a request for a video of you using your cylinder grinder when you use it next. never seen one in action. please.
  9. Been there got the t shirt. I just ended up cutting the line and either rejoining it or just letting the snarled ip part go. No point in spending hours sorting fishing line out. It's cheap enough.
  10. That's a handy tip. Good find. But still saying it quicker to walk to the truck and get the tirfor out..
  11. Ok. Here is my brain teaser. At the lifeboat station I was overhauling our single pot diesel salvage pump. A pump used to rescue a vessel taking on water. It pumps out quick. So the job was to strip it down check the bore for wear, re seal the valves. Etc etc. So after cleaning checking, painting and made sure it worked it was left on the bench ready to replace the spare on the boat. So left it there for the afternoon while waiting for some help to get it back and swapped over. After a couple of hours went into workshop and diesel was all over the pump from the fuel tank. So check and cleaned it all. Looked like it was coming from the tank outlet but it was also around the fuel cap........ It really took me a while of cleaning and checking. We had a shout yesterday and the workshop is right next to the kit room. We have heaters in there and de hums.... Can anyone click like I did after some swearing at the pump???
  12. Sod fitting an expensive seat. Just use a bit of boarding across the low links, use some rope or cable ties to hold it in place and have the valve block on the crane. Surprisingly the valve block is at a perfect hieght. If not just raise the links a bit. Why bother changing the seat. Plus I'm sure there is not enough room behind the seat to actually spin it round. Your feet may be squashed.
  13. I actually have a thought that I never want to be on a site and see or be involved with an accident and have to rely on my training from the lifeboat. On the boat it's one thing as we don't know our casualty, but in a team of cutters where you spend everyday and get to know each other is a different story.
  14. Been running timber all week with fastrac and trailer. Air con has been going. Hope this weather is to continue.
  15. New piston, you can clean the pot so long as they are not deep scores. Ally transfer is easy to get off. Deep scoring is new. I would reccomend meteor pistons.
  16. What he said. Compression test it aswell. Also worth checking the compression release is working and not leaking aswell.
  17. Will find out if don is going. Then I might be interested.
  18. Nothing runs like a Deere.....
  19. Hahaha. No still me. But I will always choose stihl for grunt. And the 550 is a sufferer for auto tune problems. But the one I was using had the rakers filed lower than they should and was extremely sharp. It just buzzed through.
  20. I have no idea Jon. I just brought these year and half ago. They have lasted this long and now the toes are going. The steel is just short of popping out. So time to order some more. And to be honest I will gladly buy these again. They are so comfortable on my feet. I have size 13 feet and huge toes. They are (as the missis says) unnatural looking feet and horrible. So I normally struggle for good footwear on anything. But these have been great. Yes I guess if I cleaned them and waterproofed them they will last longer. But to be honest I just wanted to see how long they would last when I brought them by being abused. And I'm actually slightly impressed by the price of them.
  21. Brought these woupoia Oregon boots a year and a half ago. And I reckon it's time to order some more They have stood me well been used and abused. Not bad for 92 quid I reckon. Never been waterproofed. Or even cleaned, just waited for the mud to dry and bashed it off.
  22. Reckon I will use f r jones. There service is second to none IMO. 18inch bar is something like 551
  23. So I've been asked to start doing some work for a contractor. Mainly machine driving with the odd day here and there cutting. Now I know most species of tree and can soon learn them. But is there any good quick guide books for tree ident. And anything for forestry work? Would like to have a good read up before hand just to get some good base knowledge going. Plus a book is always helpfull.
  24. After reading the first one my first thought was that the throttle linkage was sticking. Going to full choke and half choke the linkage could have been getting stuck. Hence why it was not responsive on the trigger. As it was already open. Keep trying it and if it does it again look straight into the linkage.
  25. Ok. Now spud. I really need you to ensure you are sitting down and NOT eating or drinking anything before you read the rest of this post. This is very paramount. Really sit down and stop doing whatever you are doing. Better still don't plan to do anything for a short time after reading. You will need a rest........ For a few days I have been running timber with tractors and trailers. A bit of a jog to and from the woods. Around half hour run in an old fergy. 390t. For cutting the overhang have been using a husqvarna 550xp, and I'm buying one. What a blooming great saw. Light well balanced. And has some grunt. So I'm off to the shops to get a good price. Told you to sit down.:laugh1:
