  1. Get the length's of main trunk as long as you can. Then use ebay. Or try and contact some local turners. They love it aparantly and some will pay for it.
  2. Now I always thought that self employment you couldn't work for the same person day in day out?
  3. Anything that doesn't involve the use of a chainsaw.... Hand saw only. Depends on who your working for, some can asses you for there business and write a letter stating they believe you are competent enough to use a chainsaw. But this will be for there company only and can't go elsewhere with it. In this day if hse, ins and tickets galour you will find that working without them will be near impossible. Get the basic ones and go from there. You don't even need the felling, just the cs30 will suffice for basic ground work.

    A puzzle...

Not possible unless a service is allowed to run through a house.
  5. Spent all day one the land rover. The steering wheel had more play than it should on it, tightened the nut under the box, all good now. Filled and sanded all the rust hole I had backed before, looking good now. Filled the huge hole in the boot. And even had time to get the electric mirrors working and the boot latch now opens from both the inside and outside..... Also managed to sort the seal around the boot door so it doesn't leak anymore. The front drivers wheel had a bit of play in it also, tightened the hub nuts up and all good. Been a very progressive day today. Had a chance to look at an ms280 aswell, was running well but lost power in cuts. Had a look at carb and all looked ok. Am I right in thinking this carb has an auto tune on it, no tuning for high but only tickover and low. Had wires from carb aswell. After putting the carb back on the saw will tickover high but when going to rev cuts out. Smokes a gooden aswell when throttle held, let go of it and it dies. Needs more investigation. Comps goo day the way.
  6. sorry baz, I'm not getting that tool. I meant for Steve as he uses the beer mat and sand paper trick on his.thought that tool might be a little bit safer for him rather than him cutting his fingers off. I only take in cylinder mowers if there is a fault with them, I don't sharpen them or touch the cylinder. As you say the gear costs a fortune and 9 times out of 10 its cheaper to just get buy new. Or for the customer to just send it to another person who can sharpen them.
  7. Sounds ok then. Thought for a few quid can't go wrong really. Had a weekend of spending, rock wood spark plugs, pull cord, balancer, coils. Going to order a new carb for this quad tommorow aswell. Spend spend spend. Been looking at sharpening equipment for cylinder mowers aswell, havnt seen he big grinders, but saw something that spud may be interested in, save using his beer mat and sand paper idea and may even be a bit safer aswell. 8. Great more E winds for me. I hate those as the harbour entrance in Dover is exposed on that side so the sea turns very rough indeed. Just getting in and out the entrance turns into a game of dont hit the wall. Had a F/V hit the wall last time and cause some damage to itself, didn't sink but has not pleasent. Can't wait for the winds to go away. Good post peckerwoo thank you,
  9. Just run an ordinary pot but with a meteor piston. You won't be displeased with the piston.
  10. Nothing. Yep nothing is on my bench. It's actually clear expept for machines awaiting parts. There is nothing that needs doing. A bit of bad prep on my part by waiting until Easter weekend to order parts I suppose. So its a day of land rover tomoz and getting ready for mot. I hate tose things. A question I do need to ask is what does everyone think of these blade balance tools? Ordered one last week and awaiting its arrival. Not sure what to make of it really, anyone use one? 11. To be honest the barrels are generally ok. I have fitted a meteor piston into a "Chinese" pot before. Saw is still running strong and that was last year. Meteor dont do the pots just the pistons. My advice is just to stay clear of the really cheap pots. It's really only the rings that are rubbish on the Chinese stuff.
  12. Vehicle advertising is probably the best you will ever have. As big as you can on a vehicle.
  13. Yep get as much gov funded insulation grants as you can. If there retired they have paid enough into the system so time to get some out of it. Insulation has come on leaps and bounds in years. Although they keep upping the thickness of it all. But can never have too much of it. Have they thought about underfloor heating? I'm not sure on the economy of it but I love the stuff.
  14. The sky router is pants. Mines in the kitchen and it has to go through on wall. If I'm in the living room and in the furthest corner the signal disappears. I have tried using the foil trick before, cardboard box around the back of the router and covered in tin foil like a reflector, didn't seem to do much but others have said it worked fine for them. You can reconfigure the router, sky talked us through doing ours, worked fine after for a bit then it went funny, still does aswell. Every now and then the Internet light goes orange. Normally when the phone rings.
  15. No fair......I want I want I want I want I want I want I want I want I want..... They look lovely, I like old pistols. Damn uk rules...
  16. Lifan engine. (Honda copy) Will need more grunt than hat, especially if doing fibrous timber. Personally I don't like screw type splitters.
  17. Jealous :sneaky2::sneaky2:
  18. Try and remember that in rough seas. It really doesn't work that well Lefty loosey only works on normal thread. Doesn't work on a chainsaw clutch. So how many people forgot to put there clocks forward then??
  19. Nope had a nice time off with the other. Just working on landy tomoz ready for its mot on Wednesday. Got some rust to sort out a small steering issue. Too much play on wheel. And a front bearing to look into. Not sure if gone or needs a tweak, its moving but not grinding. So should be relaxed tomoz but then I will be under a landy.....
  20. One major problem with a v12, have to be able to lift it without a machine on it.
  21. Well that's the other thing. The bloke who's quad it was works on motocross bikes, he has a chainsaw he wants me to fix, its a mcrapock but I mentioned what I'm looking at doing and he is going to have a look around to see what he has. He was very interested in what I'm doing aswell and even toyed with the idea himself, but knowing nothing about chainsaws he didn't get very far. Could be a perfect opportunity here.
  22. Ok. Picked up the free quad today. Now I'm in two minds. First it was a typo in the text, he said Honda but meant hondou. A Chinese copy of Honda, no problem just means parts are a LOT cheaper. It's a 200cc four stroke, air cooled. Clutch activated gearbox, the quad is shaft driven so not sure what the rotation of the gearbox output is, this depends on what way the chain will spin, I hope it will go the right way, make life easy. So the other way is keep bike as is and just rebuild it, try and get it road legal, this will require more work.....
  23. Only a Deere could pull that  But it's is starting to fall off the edge so maybe a bit too full. Need bigger sides:thumbup1:
  24. That's why I'm jumping on this one. Even if it can't do anything with it stripping it for parts and selling them on is worth it. The wheels alone will make money. It's from a lad at the lifeboat, he picked it up from a garage clearence he done and its sat in his back garden, the wiring is no issue as I can make a loom up for it, just the coil and carb. If memory serves me well most dirt bike carbs fit these engines as do coils and looms, it has that stator plate in so just a case of wiring from that, could either go simple with kill switches or use the handle bar control unit I have sitting in the shed and do it properly.
  25. Been doing the books this morning, just woundering how many "books" everyone has. I have three folders, income, outgoing/expenses, and one folder for invoices. Easiest way I have of doing it, am I missing more or is this enough.
