As said above, Land cruiser 100 are fantastic, go forever, try and find a low mileage 56/57 plate. The newer 200 feels like a bit of a barge in comparison. I was put off the great driving Disco 3/4 by Genset Steve's troubles and a friends. However, recently found out another couple of friends have been running D3's for 8 and 5 sheets respectively and not had any real problems to worry about. I am looking for a decent 100, failing which I opt for a D3/4.

Popped into my local Ford dealer to have a quick look at Ranger Dc, only to spot the new Ranger tipper. Great looking truck, with a decent sized load bed, however, they knew nothing about it! No idea on payload, tow weight etc!

Bullbar is ok if fitted in conjunction with a winch - it's then a winch protection bar!

Your right Mark, I saw how poorly those things were built, death trap is an understatement!

Having seen the build quality of these, I wouldn't get in one if you paid me. So poor that it failed every single TRL crash test and more besides! A complete pile of shite, poorly and cheaply made, infringing any copyright laws they fancy! No thanks, I think I would even get in a Reliant Robin pile of dogs doo doo than one of these. Rant over!

I have not been on AT for over a month, not sure why! I logged on this morning and yours was the first post I read. To say your attitude and strength of personality are inspiring, would be an understatement! I fought off a very evil form of cancer, quite a few years ago now, but I believe that a positive mental attitude and the will to survive are the key to keeping your sanity and surviving, whatever gets thrown at you! You seem to be doing an amazing job, the love and strength of your wife, kids, family, friends, acquaintances and fellow Artalkers will see you through. From the rumour mill, personal experience and advice from friends, my opinion. Land ROvers are fairly good workhorses but far too agricultural and have a poor reputation for reliability Mitsubishi don't like the double cabs and several friends have had severe issues that Mitsubishi have done their utmost to avoid putting right. Customer service it would seem is very poor! Although a friend has had 4 or 5 single cab L200's and swear by them. Navara have had their own reliability issues, the way they avoided the major engine problems on the D22's would not give me much confidence. Then the D40 came along, which looks far too soft and had its own issues and rumours abounded! Isuzu their seems to be mostly good opinion, but just doesn't appeal Great Wall wouldn't touch one with a barge poll, build quality on everyone I've seen has been horrendous! I would not want to be in one in a major accident! Toyota have a great reputation going back years, but have rested on their laurels for quite some time. The god awful 2200kg towing limit was upped to 2800kg, which is useful, but still a way off the class leaders. Ford Rangers have seemed to be abit antiquated. Then the last model seemed to improve things, but lots of rumours of poor build quality and chassis issues when worked hard. The newest Ranger looks a good motor but possibly a bit early to know. A friend hated his to start, he switched from a D40, but is now loving it, to the point he has just ordered a new top of the range Ranger! In truth the Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Series would kick all their arses as a work truck, but LHD and the high price rules it out for most. If its just a tow vehicle or car you need then the simple answer is, get a 100 or 200 series Land Cruiser, will tow all day long and last for years!

You are deluded if you think you can get out of a tree if you have certain serious injuries or an arterial bleed. An its likely that you will injure yourself further if you try to fast line it down. Simple answer carry a CAT and one or two Israeli bandages or similar on your person, in an easily accessible place. Ensure you have a decent First Aid kit on the ground, and more importantly co-workers who know how to use the kit, and have had recent 'practice'. Main kit should hold at least 2 more CAT's, numerous Israeli type bandages and celox impregnated bandage or similar. This kit can and will make the difference should you or your colleagues have a 'major' trauma. So the knowledge to use the kit and regular practice to keep it fresh in your memory. And that means practising with the dressings and a CAT - costs more, but what value do 'you' put on a life??? PS: the use of a zip tie should be a 'very' last resort - whoever mentions it above, do yourself a favour and buy a CAT.

Just looking for a bit of advice please. Just bought a few bits off a local bloke who is packing up, he never really started! I have got an MS171 & MS181c both in good condition, don't think they have seen much work. Was just going to sell them, then thought I might keep one and try a bit of carving. So looking for some advice about which would be the better saw to keep. Thanks and looking forward to your 'pearls of wisdom'! Chris

The towing limit was 2200kg, but that has been updated to 2800kg, so not a big difference amongst most of the competition. Plus you get reliability, off-road ability and a higher resale value.

@ Treeracer25 You need to to have a LR competent mechanic look at: a. Springs and shocks possibly knackered b. Bump stops c. the build - you might not have enough clearance Who was the tipper built and fitted by? Have you asked the previous owner if he had problems - would you trust him to tell you the truth?? Good luck sorting it - we need photos!!!
