  3. I find it amazing how many 'hire' machines are a pile of shite! Poorly maintained and blades on some chippers must be blunt as....!! Amazing that if there is a problem, it must be something you have done!? I'd rather rent in a man and his personal machine - most of the time!

  7. I have recently started to do some work for a local business, they have several large Oaks & Beeches with TPO's. They have appplied to the LPA for permission to lay some type one to a large area of rough ground for extra parking. They allowed a 2.5mx2.5m area around one of the trees but the LPA have come back and asked for some Anti compaction mats to protect the tree roots. So question, how far out from the base of the tree should the mats be layed, at what depth and where can you get them, price?? Many thanks Chris

  11. Bit of an up date: Household Contents Insurance company are refusing to pay for any tools! They have a clause excluding business equipment, so £10-12,000 out of pocket by the look of it!! So a bit of advice, if you rely upon your household insurance to cover your tools - please check the small print.

  13. Looks like I might be doing this in May too!! A group do 10-15 mates are having a go, so I am getting shed loads of 'friendly' pressure, as I sort of said I'd do it last year! ABF is the chosen charity by the look of things, so looks like the training schedule starts next week?!?!?

  15. If its a conservation area, then he is in breach of the six week notification! Apert from that he needs tellingin no uncertain terms that he has to seek authority for any future work he intends to undertake. The words Idiot and moron come to mind.
  16. Hi HCR thanks for taking the time to post, it looks like the Alder is going the same way as the others, but your right that the Hedge looks ok! It could possibly be mechanical damage, I did ask if they were a bit heavy handed when mowing - but forgot to ask if its a ride on. I am going to pop back, have another look and take a few more photos. Thanks again Chris
  17. Few more photos
  18. Some of the other dead/dying trees, seem similar to the Willow
  19. Photos of the Willow, de-barking itself and the top branches have all died. @ Portcullis = Its a fair distance to the road, but very close to water, the garden borders some local Lakes?
  20. Went along to do a quote yesterday, next to Leybourne Lakes, Kent, for those that know it. There were a few dead or dying trees - waiting for the download of photos and I will post some up, but dying Willow, Cherry,Ash and a couple of others. Its a bit of a concern to myself and the prospective customer - any thoughts or opinions please. Chris
  21. Charge what your conscience allows and be happy. Remeber that most jobs we do takes some skill, tools/specialist tools, transport, fuel etc, etc. You wil not find any other industry where the work force so often undervalue themselves! I di some work for a Property Development Co, as few years back, the Site Foreman pulled me up on arrival on first day and told me my price was too cheap! He altered it up to where he said a skilled workforce should be - 3 men, truck and chipper. When the company when into Administration about two years ago due to the recession - they had £80 million worth of flats and houses in build or on sale, but ran into cash flow problems due to poor sales. The Administrators sold off all the assets and charged £2 million plus for doing it. Their admin and secretarial staff were charged at £80 plus vat per hour, the Managers £4-500 + and the Partners £1000 + plus Vat Staggering figures and daylight robbery. No wonder the creditors got jack!
  22. Congratulations on falling asleep on the sofa, saved you a packet! As the others have said get that dog a bone. Consider beefing up the garage door, locks, alarm, real or bogus cctv camera, etc. I got burgled 4 weeks ago, same as you, from the garage. Now waiting on the insurance co!
  23. Totally agree with the above, especially if you have any of what you have stated in writing or in'text'. Go to site and have a word, but do NOT lose your temper. Good luck
  24. Do it, don't regret it! Its never too late!
  25. I wouldn't touch it with yours or a barge pole come to that! Chinese cars & trucks are sh*te! I would only believe the value of the scrap, once weighed in and cashed out! Rubbish steel, god awful build quality and the mechicals are laughable! I'd rather do the job in Trotters Reliant Robin!
