  1. It's a Riko one, I will post a picture when I've got it hopefully tomorrow
  2. MCA Kingstone
  3. Had a couple of those saw horses, they are good because they support the weight of the saw and you can get all your logs cut the same length. But I had to buy another as the bolt that clamps the saw threaded after about 6 months use. I got mine for around £50 so was cheaper to get another than faff about trying to fix it. It's still not ideal for mass production of logs though, they just aren't made for those kind of quantities. Too flimsy. Had an Oregon saw horse before that, the one where you pile a load of lengths in then cut. But that snapped broke after about 12 months of use. These things are designed for domestic use really. Gone for something heavier duty now so tomorrow I've got a PTO driven circular saw turning up
  4. There's a plantation near me that was felled around 12 months ago and they've left at a guess a forwarding trailer load of softwood sat stacked up by the track. I'm guessing it's because it's not worth sending a lorry to pick that amount up. And another just up the road where there are decent lumps of wood that are presumably the off cuts from when the tree's been cut to whatever lengths. Sometimes see people carry odd bits out by hand as I'm driving past
  5. Sit the vented bulk bags outside with tarpaulins covering the top and take the tarps off completely if we are having a dry week or 2. Then move inside in August/September
  6. Sounds like a good endorsement for them, thanks. I thought there would have been more people with saw benches on here than have replied so far
  7. Why do they call them Seasoned Logs when they quite clearly aren't. A bit misleading.
  8. How do you wire it in and if you don't wire it in does the bench still work? Does the Riko have a similar emergency stop? Only be me using it, don't have employees.
  9. Just looking for a bit of advice on PTO drive circular saw benches. I'm looking to get a saw bench with a rocking cradle for safety. I've used an old fashioned saw bench with minimal guarding before but that's as much experience as I have with saw benches so far. From looking online I've narrowed it down to the Riko SCD 700 and the Ryetec Heavy Duty Contractor Saw. Both of these claim to have a 12" diameter cutting capacity and look to be well made from what I can tell. The Riko probably just edges it in having wheels to manoeuvre it around when not on the tractor plus a log length cut guide and last time I checked it was cheaper than the Ryetec. Discounted other saws for not having as large a cutting capacity and/or being too expensive (Posch). But open to suggestions if someone knows of another that fits the bill that I haven't thought of. Can anyone with experience with either of the above saws let me know what they think of them? I assume there isn't too much that can go wrong? Thanks
  10. 372xp when I had it on a 20" bar
  11. What about if you could stick the whole bag in, put a match to the bag and the lot gets going like with those bags of BBQ charcoal you get. Obviously need to be a smallish bag but could be a good way to start a fire and would burn for a bit before any more wood was required. 2 problems I can think of with that is whether it would be possible to get enough heat in the bags material for the wood inside to catch well enough. And the 2nd thing is that lighting the fire could turn in to a major expense if you were using a bag every time at say even a couple of quid! Maybe my version of your idea is best left on the shelf
  12. Ford 4000. No doors, some windows present, same with the floor. My Grandad rolled it many years ago! Doesn't get used often but it starts first time every time. When I get a saw bench I'm thinking this will be the ideal tractor to go on it, gives it a purpose too
  13. 10" take it or leave it. Never had anyone say they are too big. Only time I would cut bigger or smaller is if it was unseasoned to order.
  14. I'd be interested to know how a similar sized pile of Sycamore/Ash compared to that as now I'm thinking I may have been pulling quite a bit more than I thought behind the quad
  15. 495kg
  16. One thing I always notice when delivering logs and also looking through peoples sheds on here is that most people don't put a big enough over hang on their roofs so the lower half of the stack gets wet.
  17. Cheers for the replies. Might stick it on a wooden pallet and knock up some timber supports to stop it bulging too badly. Don't really want to give up an IBC cage!
  18. If you keep watching a bit more it looks like it's splitting them to me. Do you think you could adapt a cement mixer to do this!
  19. I've bought a saw online in the past then used the local dealer for warranty work. Same with my car, bought it at a better price from a dealer further afield then use the local dealer for warranty work/servicing.
  20. Do you have them in or out of the metal cage?
  21. Does anyone know if the plastic tank from an IBC is ok to fill up with water without the cage around it? I'll probably give it a try anyway, if it breaks, it breaks, but just wondered if anyone had done it. Using the cages for logs which is why I want to use the plastic without if possible
  22. Back to rain, rain and more rain. I'm sick of this.
  23. because it's the most expensive I've heard of by a long shot, at least round here
  24. I was at a place on Saturday that sells a half cube bag of imported kiln dried logs for £90! And they sell it no problem.
  25. If I see one for £50-£60 I'll get it. But not seen one at that price so far Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
