  1. Got no WiFi or 3G to use my iPhone where I work, plus it would be expensive if I did have 3G on for hours! Should be able to get DAB ok as my old car had a DAB radio and it worked fine round the area I'm in. I'm wanting one to listen to the football mainly if I'm working at weekends Don't like having headphones in, can't hear or get a feel for what's going on around you with them in
  2. Does anyone use a portable DAB radio that they could recommend? I like the look of this Makita BMR104W DAB/FM Site Radio 18V | Radios | Screwfix.com but by the time you add the battery pack on at around £60 and the charger at £30-£40 it's starting to get expensive! Got no power in my building and would like to use it in the woods as well so it needs to be battery powered
  3. Is this a suitably complicated project for you Difflock?
  4. The Balfor saw was from Riko maximum dia. it can handle is 12" I can't remember the exact price but it was somewhere in the region of £1100
  5. How about this? But with a larger hopper to catch the logs at the bottom of the conveyor!
  6. Saw bench without a doubt. I find it a lot more comfortable to use than a chainsaw for long periods of time when logging up as well as being quite a bit faster cutting. No chain sharpening is nice too. I only wish I had got mine sooner. I posted this the other day about my Balfor http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/firewood-forum/78812-worth-buying-pto-saw-bench-2.html#post1175410
  7. I had some hydraulic hose extensions made up so I can have the splitter freestanding and the tractor facing the splitter with a vented bag hung off the pallet forks to throw straight in to then go and stack it straight away once full. It was cheaper than those bag holder frames as well. They were approx £110+VAT for the pair off the top of my head
  8. No chance I'm falling through it, it's one of those really heavy ones made from thicker timber. Doesn't even flex when I'm stood on it
  9. I bought a Balfor saw bench from Riko in February. It's been great, much better than using a chainsaw. It'll cut up to 12" diameter wood too. I did think about a Ryetec but it didn't have wheels to push it round when not on the tractor like the Balfor one does. I park the loader tractor next to the saw bench so the wood drops in the bucket then tip it inside in a heap next to my splitter
  10. Sounds like a lot of complicating things for the sake of it going on Amount of time spent thinking and fabricating things could have been spent processing a lot of wood!
  11. Weathers been pretty good here just recently although I think it's going to rain later today. Where are you staying?
  12. Looks a handy size machine. Very tidy as well or is it brand new?
  13. How do the guys that are doing hundreds of cubic metres of wood or even 1000 store all the logs and keep them dry once they are processed? Big agricultural type buildings?
  14. Really what the manual should say is that you should only run it on XP oil then. I only ever use XP oil in my saws, feel quite glad that I do now.
  15. I've heard of John Metcalfe but don't know him. He sounds like he could be the man then, nice and handy for me like you say Hodge. Do you have a number for him? I'm near Grange, Tommy Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  16. Won't really be taking them off very often if at all, just opening them to load things in and out of. If I needed to take them off it wouldn't matter if they were a 2 man lift for the amount of times that I'd be wanting to do it. Was thinking steel box section frame with steel sheet infill panels rather than wood panels. e.g.
  17. Hi just got a bit of a tractor tipping trailer project. It's got no sides or rear door but the chassis is good and it tips well. How much is it likely to cost me to get some metal drop down sides and a rear door made up - just to give me an idea what to expect not going to hold anyone to it! I will obviously be in touch with a local fabricator at some point but thought someone on here might have already done the same thing themselves. It's a 10 ft x 6 ft trailer. And just on the off chance someone can recommend me a fabricator to try in South Lakes area of Cumbria
  18. Not sure if it's already been mentioned but you can get Halfords | Garage Equipment | Workshop Equipment | Garage Storage Solutions | (6 drawer tool centre, 150 piece Socket set and 8 Piece screw driver set) for £200 at the moment, normal price altogether would be £440. Not the best drawers but for essentially free might be worth a go? They're also doing offers on some of the nicer drawer sets too at the moment.
  19. Definitely agree with Skyhuck about last 4 out of 5 winters being bad. TBH even this last winter was a nightmare for how wet it was, never stopped raining. I can cope with the cold but non stop rain gets me down! I'm living in the wrong place really
  20. There is someone at Barrow that does the import logs thing but out of a warehouse unit rather than a petrol station with a box van with tail lift to deliver the crates/bags in.
  21. I'd love a little set up like that
  22. Best one I've had was a Portek type saw horse where you mount the saw on to the saw horse itself. Had an Oregon Easy saw horse too which was ok but it snapped after a couple of years. Got a circular saw bench now and couldn't go back to messing about with saw horses again
  23. Got the posts in the ground and the bottom 3 foot of wire on. Just got to get the top half on now. This stuff is a pain to strain, it's a fine line between getting enough tension on the wire and snapping the welds
  24. I know of someone that does just that. Gets an artic load of kiln dried logs in crates delivered in to a warehouse he rents. Got a forklift truck to unload the artic. Then has a van with tail lift and pump truck to go out delivering the crates. Not sure what he's buying them in for but he sells a 1.2m crate for £180. I think the woods coming over from Poland.
