  1. Thanks for all the replies. Going to have to do some more research, LEDs sound good for this purpose with them not using as much power. I could even just get one and plug it in to the generator to give me an idea of how many I'm likely to need to light the whole building up
  2. Yes - approx. 20-25m away. Turbines are expensive though and complicated?
  3. Yeah would definitely need a battery to store the power. I was kind of hoping there was going to be a system like I posted earlier but just a bit bigger and obviously more expensive! Rather than having the roof covered in solar panels, there's already solar panels on the farmhouse roof and that set up was a lot more money than this building warrants having spent on it for this purpose.
  4. Cheers, that doesn't sound too promising! This is the kind of thing I've found when searching online Solar Lighting Kit in a box with 8 LED Bulbs but I don't think the lights they provide with that kit would be able to light up such a large space adequately and there's definitely not enough cable length either. So I guess it needs to be something along those lines but bigger
  5. We have a generator that's more powerful than that. But it's noisy and it gets used for other things as well so don't want to tie it up. We like the idea of solar power, it's quiet and free lighting after the initial set up cost. This building is in the sun pretty much all day as well so would be ideally suited. Hopefully someone has done it already
  6. Got a head torch and one of the tractors has work lights but it's not as good as having proper lights. Plus part of this building is used at lambing time as well so it's not all machinery work that goes on in there. Be nice to flick a switch and the whole place is lit up
  7. Hi all We've got a steel frame agricultural type building that's approximately 15m long x 8m wide x 5m high at it's highest point and 4m high at the lowest. One side is open and the other 3 are clad or have doors. It's got no power at all. Think it'd cost too much to have it connected to the grid with it being a long way from anything else. Are there any good solar powered lighting systems out there capable of providing a good level of lighting inside a building of this size? I can't imagine the lights would need to be on for much longer than 3 hours at a time in an evening. Don't need any electric power points in there as the only machinery we use in there run off the tractors. I've done a quick google but the stuff I've found seems to be for lighting smaller areas than this.
  8. Someone near me has built one but they haven't sloped the roof that much or left much of an overhang. They've got a tarp on top and the water just runs off and down the face of all the logs so they look absolutely sodden.
  9. I had a minor issue a couple of years ago with my local dealer not wanting to look at my saw because I didn't buy it off them. Rang Husqvarna who sorted it out. I didn't buy off the local dealer initially as they were a lot more expensive. Going to be in a similar boat soon, want to get a 550xpg in the new year but suspect the local dealer will be a lot more expensive again if it's anything like last time. To me it's just the same as when buying cars. I go wherever is the best deal whether that be local or the other end of the country.
  10. How much for a tonne of logs mate
  11. I have mine sat up on a few pallets but I'm quite tall Not going to be possible for a PTO splitter though
  12. What's the chances of being able to buy all their logs then sell them at your prices? It's a big outlay buying them out I guess
  13. Tarpaulins | Tarps | Tarpaulin | Tarpaulins For Sale are the cheapest I've seen. I've got a few of the 170gsm one's and they've been good for covering my wood stacks over with.
  14. I only do it with Oak, everything else has a cover over the top to keep the worst off.
  15. That is a bizarre way to do things.
  16. Best way I've found to season oak is split it in to IBC's, put them outside in an open space uncovered. Leave there all spring and summer getting repeatedly rained on and drying out then when there's a dry spell in September bring them inside. Getting wet then drying out seems to really help season it
  17. Never even tried it. My Grandfather smoked 60 a day. It made me never want to touch one.
  18. What's a good combi can to get in the mean time then?
  19. That's the one. I'm sure it was around May when it was originally meant to be out. Then September, then November. Now possibly 2015? That's very poor. Hope no one was expecting one for Christmas
  20. Have Husqvarna released this yet?
  21. Not sure how much they'll make but it's surprising how much old machinery sometimes makes. The front linkage was for a front bale spike, one bale on the front and one on the back leading them in to get wrapped
  22. A week tomorrow, 29th November. The digger is a big old girl! Spent a few hours on it and it works fine apart from the brakes are a bit dodgy
  23. I thought they'd be up your street JON shame everything's got to go but there's no one to carry it on
  24. The 372 seems to have different wheels on it to a lot of the others on google. It'd look good with some nice wide wheels and tyres. And tidying up obviously! It's a nice little tractor to drive, really handy size.
  25. Just a bit of the old machinery we've got to load up tomorrow ready to go to a farm sale. The farmer we are doing it on behalf of sadly passed away.
