  1. If you had deer fencing everywhere it'd look awful.
  2. That's my next problem, dealing with the trunk. The branches will be ok to log up and split for firewood. Don't suppose you know how you go about selling the trunk for timber? I wouldn't know who to approach or how much to expect...
  3. I'd love something like that! Looks spot on.
  4. Same with me but 4 nice sized oaks and one monster oak in my case. The really big oak I would never have dreamt of felling, it's not rotten either. Good for business is this weather! Just really lucky that there were no sheep under it as they do like to shelter under that tree.
  5. And a Pine and Silver Birch that had decided to having a coming together on a new bit of fencing!
  6. Found this Oak had gone over this morning, should of taken a photo of the roots. Pulled up some huge pieces of stone with it that'll come in handy for walling. I'll get a pic at some point. Thinking about getting another bigger saw cos I've only got an 18" Husky 440e at the moment and once I get down to the trunk it's not going to be man enough for it. Don't usually have stuff as big as that deal with. And these are 3 Oak trees that came over together and took out the overhead power lines, it had been partly cut up by the electric company for them to get it off the lines but I still had a couple of hours work to finish it off. Before: After: All the brash is to burn at some point if we ever get some nice frosty weather! Got piles of the stuff all the place now, sick of looking at it.
  7. I'd be interested to know how much that would be worth as I've got an Oak that came down a couple of days ago that is that kind of size if not bigger. I was just going to log it up and sell for firewood...
  8. Decent size building sites have loads of these turning up with goods on daily and they are itching to get rid of them I find. Saves them having to pay to get rid.
  9. Disgusting someone nicking your hard earned. I haven't read all the thread but did see other people suggesting a CCTV system. That's what I'd go with. Shame it means you having to spend money yourself. My stepdad had a heap of wood nicked a couple of years ago from a field that was near a road. Obviously the lesson he learnt from that is never to store it within sight of a road!
  10. I'm collecting pallets at the moment with a view to building a shelter to season some of my wood in. Was thinking it'd be 2 pallets wide and 5 pallets long for the floor then 2 pallets high for the walls then OSB with felt on top for the roof. Just haven't worked out exactly how I'm going to fix it all together yet so its strong enough. The wind will blow through the slats nicely to dry the wood I hope. It'll be a bit of a Heath Robinson affair but I want to do it cheap as possible plus nothing permanent so it can be taken down and got rid of easily enough! I found this site when searching for ideas... Building a Wood Shed from recycled wooden pallets there are loads of things people have made from pallets. may not be any good for you but it's kind of given me an idea of what I want to do but on a slightly larger scale. They don't show how they are fixing all those pallets together though unfortunately.
  11. I could have the odd bit of softwood but considering you put the same amount of time in but have to sell it for less and no one seems to want it I don't bother. Just gets thrown on a fire on the rare occasion I have one to get rid of.
  12. You're not a million miles away from me. I'm in Cumbria. I don't turn over hundreds of tonnes like a lot of people on here. I sell at £80 per m3.
  13. £45 m3 is very cheap! Where about's are you?
  14. If its like that already then a quad towing a trailer full of wood will get stuck. The grounds knackered this time of year I am very good at ploughing whether it be in the tractor, quad or Land Rover!
  15. There isn't a head office or anything like that, it's just a guy that owns the pub. I'm guessing it's because he doesn't want to constantly be feeding the fire if the wood is dry so he would rather stick a load of coal on to keep it going and then as you say stick wood on there for the olde worlde effect rather than for heat!
  16. I've mentioned that website to a couple of my customers if they ever ask how my prices compare to other people... someone must be buying it though or they wouldn't be in business so fair play to them.
  17. Basically sold it all and had turn people away now which I really don't like. I don't have anything like the kind of set up others have on here though, it's only part time for me.
  18. I have a pub I supply and he has started specifically asking for wet wood because the dry wood I took him "burns too quickly". He even keeps it just in a heap outside exposed to the weather. So now I log it straight from lengths off my stockpile in to a trailer to deliver it instead of giving him the nice dry logs that I have stored under cover. I don't really like doing it and have explained to him about wet wood and he just isn't bothered. He would rather throw more coal on, seems like a false economy to me with the price of coal.
